Marist 2 2 0 0 5 0 6
Waterside Dreamers 2 2 0 0 11 6 6
Seatoun 3 2 0 1 8 4 6
Island Bay Untd 3 2 0 1 5 4 6
Tawa 3 1 2 0 7 5 5
Miramar Rangers 3 1 1 1 7 6 4
Upper Hutt City 3 1 1 1 6 8 4
Brooklyn Northern 3 0 1 2 5 9 1
Olympic 3 0 1 2 2 9 1
Stop Out 3 0 0 3 6 11 0

Marist, Wharfies, Seatoun and IBU on top, thought Marist and Wharfies
with a game in hand due to the first week postponement

Unsurprisingly a big log jam early in the season

The Marist team looks like they have a good defence, no goals conceded as yet.  Are they the team to beat this season?
Permalink Permalink
almost 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yes, hard to pick at this point, The Dreamers will be there or thereabouts especially with Leo Van Dutchguy on their books. Seatoun look like an early force to be reckoned with and we are dreading playing Tawa after their aggregated 12-0 thumping of us last year. The Mar at the Kilbirnie Bobbledrome this weekend...should be a cracker after last years close games! Sniper....is that you Stokesy?

The league looks alot more competitive last year.  We have played both Brooklyn and Upper Hutt who both seem to be better sides this year.  Looking forward to playing the Dreamers this weekend as we (Tawa) had two great games against them last season.

Who is the team to beat?  Wharfies?  Marist?

Hi,  we played you guys on the weekend.  We played UH first up, they have a good midfield and a few new younger players.  Should be a close game,  I think your both about the same level,  your forwards may have slight advantage

Thanks mate. That game was painful to watch last weekend being injured. We were hopeless.

Any idea what that penalty was given for???

Apparently for constantly grabbing the player.  Thought it was a vvveeerrryyy soft call though.  Thought you guys definitely deserved your win you had the better of us in the 2nd half.  That's 3 games now where we have scored first and haven't been able to finish the game off

We were all gobsmacked when that penalty was given. You lot didn't argue about it either which left us even more confused. You lot were well in it up until that decision, it seemed to have taken the wind out of your sails. Good luck with the rest of your season.

Upper Hutt are definetly better than last year with a few younger guys up front and out wide.  Reasonably quick.

Karori Dreamers are the goods - but Marist sound like they could be handy too

Dreamers have always been superb. Marist are looking well up to it. I imagine Tawa would be too. We're looking good ourselves, just hope we can keep injuries to a minimum. Have been quite unlucky in that respect.

As a player last year and not this, I must disagree with this statement.
The only problem with the young fellas is the booze they drink on the Friday night.  The keeper is much stronger than last years.

Obviously not going to be many Seatoun goal kicks if they are to have enough time to score that many goals.

Its amazing the difference a half decent ref makes, not sure about four tho, thought the three flattered Seatoun enough

My guesses were well off the mark.  Especially my Tawa vs Dreamers.  We got dealt to 3-0.

Any comments on how Seatoun compare to last season?  The rumour is that we have them next week at Kura Street - possibly the biggest pitch in Wellington.  Hope they are feeling fit.

They've now got the twin brothers (Matt & Brodie?), who are giving them a bit of pace and width that they were short of last season

Seatoun are a much, much better side than last year. We've played them 3 times this season, including Hilton, and they have run us very close every game.

To Upper Hutt, great game yesterday. You made Harcourt an extremely tough place to visit. I certainly didn't expect to be working as much as I did! Good luck this season.

Angus decided he would rather play 3rds which is a shame.  We also had a few young Tawa College players playing for us during Hilton who are not avaiable during the season.  But other than that our side is largely unchanged.  In fact we should be better as have had a number of 1st team squad players playing games for us.  Just not clicking at present.
That is a good Karori side though - a bunch of older players (apparentely ex-national league?) who all know how each other play.  They won't lose much, if at all this season.
