Cheers to the Tawa B guys, game was played in good spirits, with some great sportsmanship at the end.

Rumor has it that Graham put one wide towards the end because he felt bad scoring against his old team!

Upper Hutt look pretty good this year,no way near what they were last year, super duper real quick and structured.I would imagine they'll be up there at the top of the table at the end of the season.Who ever draws them this week be warned........hope your all super fit,the team is predominantly 17 year olds with a couple of experienced indiv's at the back.Good luck!!
Should be noted that Upper Hutt Premiers had a lot of injuries last week, don't know about recovery expectations, and expect two more imports this week.  There could be ramifications down the grades as players drop back.

Gossies 2 - 1 Stop Out

It was a warm, beautiful Wellington day at Kelburn Park.
Stop Out took the lead in the first 5' thanks to a clever through ball which set up a 1v1 between their striker and our GK. Our GK got a touch but the ball bounced back onto the striker's leg who easily slotted it home.
For the first 25' Stop Out got a lot of the ball and the Gossies had to do a lot of running. Then we finally started coming out a bit more and had a few good chances.
Gossies equalised through a thumping header following a corner kick (from our CM who is not actually that tall).
1-1 at HT and a pretty fair result.

In the second half we finally started pushing more and more and, although SO were very tidy at the back, we finally got ahead with around 15' to go.
Final result 2-1.

I must say, SO had a VERY young team. I think they had at least 4 underage players, and everyone but one or two were 18-19. So it's understandable our greater experience prevailed in the end, though they had plenty of speed and skills. I reckon, personally, SO are going to find it quite hard for the first 5-6 games but once their player start finding their feet, they will go on a roll and win quite a few games!

Happy with the points, loved the sun and the football - thanks SO for an entertaining encounter.

After 2 games, the two promoted teams have contrasting fortunes. Waicanae won 2 out of 2 while Seatoun lost 2 out of 2. Is Waikanae a form team gunning for Div 1 next year? Any standout sportsman from this league?

gotta to be noted though that Seatouns first three games this year after coming back up from Div 3 have been against the presently top 3 teams in the results chart, and at least two from last years top 3.
Not an excuse as things to work on obviously but not sure if it helped, anyhow played Kelbern yesterday and the ground was probably the worst i've ever seen it,should of been called off it was that bad!! How were the other grounds?? How was Harcourts....flooded?

New groundsman at Kelburn I think, nowhere near as good condition as previous years.

Also, great stuff by our seconds, scoring in the final minutes, keeper nodding in after going forward for a corner.

Harcourt #1 was in very good nick I must say.Despite the amount of rain it held remarkably well. Key reason for it was there there were NO games scheduled on it before UH vs Gossies. The same thing doesn't happen on Kelburn park, however.
It is not uncommon to have 1 or 2 kids games, 1 lower-league gameon the park and then our 1st/2nd team playing on KP. With a schedule like this (which happened almost on a weekly basis last year), Kelburn is always going to be a bog as soon as the rain starts falling.

Back to UH 1 - 1 Uni Gossies

UH played very well in the first half, though somehow we had about 3-4 great scoring opportunities but failed to put one in the back of the net. First half was all in all pretty balanced and ended 0-0.

UH scored in the first 10-15' of the 2nd half, from a cross if I remember correctly.
The second half was a bit more scrappy, and as the legs grew more and more tired we kept on putting pressure on them. In the last 5' they cleared a ball off the line until..
..and you gotta hear this...

we got a corner with about 2' to go and our goalkeeper decided to go up into the box and headed the ball into the net!!!
I don't think my GK has ever scored in 20 years of football so that was, let's say, interesting!!

Good game all in all, surely UH feel hard done by as they almost had the 3 points in the bag. Credit to us for not giving up.

Thanks to UH for their hospitality at Harcourt, look forward to seeing you lads in KP.

Cheers

Tonight University 4 - 1 Uni Gossies

To be honest the score line isn't exactly fair. Uni played very well for the first 20' and the last 25'. In the middle of the game the Gossies had most of the ball and a few good chances, but after Uni went 2-1 up there was no stopping them.

Good on them and thanks for the game

Tough win for our lads today at Kelburn Park v Uni Gossies. They hit the post after about 3 minutes but then we took the lead soon after. The Gossies then scored a good equaliser from outside the box about halfway through the half. Just before half time we took the lead from a well struck shot from just inside the box. Ground conditions were very tough but we managed to hold on and take all 3 points. A huge game next week for our lads v The Bulldogs. CAPITAL 2:

I must say that your summary of the game is pretty fair, totalfootball. You guys definitely started off strong, despite our hitting the post in the first couple of minutes. Your No. 10 was very fast and getting a lot of the ball, and your left mid (blond guy) was also taking a lot of the initiative.
Just one thing I will add: Tawa's second goal was definitely marred by a push on the goal keeper, who ended up in the back of the gla with his arm stuck in the net. Pretty much everybody seem to notice that but the ref. These things do happen in football, and sometimes they go your way, other times they go against you - it's life.

After going 2-1 down the Gossies performed a real siege & in the last 20' or so were quite unlucky not to get one past your GK. But I guess that shows you guys' committment as you defended very very well and kept us out.

I think it's going to be a tough league, and the most consistant team, not the one with the most skills, will prevail in the end. Shame we couldn't get a point of two off you guys to help our First Team. It's going to be a cracker when Tawa v University is played!
Cheers

Results I heard from yesterday:

UH 0 - 0 University. By all accounts a cracker of a game, Uni had 2 goals disallowed and UH hit the post twice.

Tawa won, so they extended their lead.

Uni Gossies 7 - Wgtn Utd 2. We took the lead early on, they equalized through their very tall, ginger hair striker. First half ended 2-1 in Gossies favour and the game was still open.
In the second half we went 3-1 and then 4-1 through a couple of well worked set pieces. Utd pulled one back after we conceded a penalty.
The game became a bit scrappy and both teams kept on attacking in the last 25' and we managed to get 3 more in. They got another penalty but this time they missed.

Does anyone else know the results in the other games? Also, I think University vs Tawa might be on next Saturday which would be crucial to determine if Tawa are going to run away or Uni can make a serious attempt at regaining first spot eventually.

Has anyone from Uni found out the day and time for our match next week?

We played our 3rd team yesterday. Full credit to them, they pushed us and deserved to get something out of the match. We got the winner with 10 to go from a cross from the sideline. Not the best display from our lads and a bit of luck goal for our goal, but thankfully we gained another 3 crucial points.

Draw isn't out yet, but it should this coming weekend right?
I'd say possibly 230pm kick off at Kelburn Park, but I would wait until the official draw is out to be sure.

Waikanae 2 v Seatoun 1, Tawa 1 v Tawa Bulldogs 0, Stop Out 1 v Olympic 0.

Stop Out v Olympic was fairly close, we went 1-0 up and didn't look like changing too much, although a few of the greeks were quality (wonder if they had come down from above teams) - good close league.

Yeah the guys did well last night, the players that you probably didnt see a few weeks ago was the 42 year old keeper, the 43 year old Centre back, and the 44 year old striker.... always played, just come back from injuries. They came in and helped lower the average age of the team.

Young boy up front for Oly was a 17 year old who played for them last year on and off and plays for the 2nds no 1st teamers in there thats for sure. Everyone else was as per their normal team with a few of the old injuried guys back in the fold. I mean they replced a centre midfielder with a guy that looked about 15 years of age so I wouldnt say it was a stacked side.
