Gossies 1 - 0 Waikanae

Very tight and physical game. The Waikanae lads are all pretty tall and strong in the air and a couple of their MF were quite handy.
We scored from a free kick, the ball crossed the whole penalty box and was finally met by our CB (40-something) who scored his 3rd in 3 games!
Waiakane unlucky not to get one back - they threw numbers forward and were a bit unlucky with a couple of off-side calls I must admit.

Gossies 4 - UH 4

A very entertaining game for those watching. Gossies were always up (4-2 with 20' to go) but UH didn't want to lose it and managed to get a point in the end. A couple of silly goals given away by both teams, and a dodgy penalty against us (you gotta say he got only the ball !!!) provided more entertainment!

Both teams showed they could play out of the back, despite the wintery conditions and the mud. In the end, we should not have put our foot off the throttle and good on UH for throwing bodies forward and getting the equalizer.

All the other results look very interesting, especially both the table toppers picking up 0 points and Stop Out now pushing for a top 2 stop!

Who can shed some light on the Seatoun victory over Uni?!

And what is that Stop Out result all about... 9-0 over a decent Waikanae side??

We played probably one of our best games so far this season and took chances that we created. Waikanae had a man sent of just before half time which didnt help them. We were 3 nil up at the time.
Thanks to Waikanae for there hospitality up at the pub.
It was our day alright we even took all three prizes in the raffle

Yeah played uni at season admittedly they hit the post 2or3 times but they lost the plot just before half time, they scored and then gave away a penalty.20minutes into the second half a two football tackle altough50/50 bounced off a season player down the line our striker was running onto it when a uni player chopped him and broke his leg in two, worst tackle I've ever seen as the striker didn't even have the ball, still trying to figure out how much force it would take or anger to do that, anyway scored off the resulting free kick once they were down to 10 men and a field day after that.feel sorry for the lad who caused the injury as I am sure he didn't mean it but it was pretty much turning of the tide from then on in and uni just weren't the same.

from what I've heard the lad who broke the Seatoun player's leg is very very sorry. He really isn't a nasty player and was shattered that his tackle resulted in a broken leg.
Also, not an excuse but I heard from several people that the tackle occurred after two fouls had gone unpunished a few seconds earlier. When that happens sometimes you just go in hard as you don't want to lose the tackle and not get the foul either.

Similar thing happened at the Gossies v UH game where Jonesy was always flying in studs up and you had to go hard in the 50/50 'cause the ref never pulled him up for that - but it's all good.

Best of luck to the injured Seatoun player - we all hope he will be back next year.

Hopefully your lad gets better quickly. Think our guy is going to give him a call today.

Not too sure about your description of the game though. We had a legitimate goal disallowed in the first half, and should have been four or five clear, but didnt take our chances coupled with your outstanding keeper and the posts. And to say there are question marks over your last two goals is putting it lightly.

Fair play to you guys on the win, you battled to the end and got the reward. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

So Uni have a Jonesy eh?
I was not at the game but would be extremely surprised if UH's one "was always flying in studs up".

Gonna have to say yeah your right on this one,Uni did derserve to be probably 3 nil up at half time.
And yeah i am sure your guy didn't mean it.
No one at Seatoun thinks it was on purpose so let your guy know no hard feelings.

No I was talking about UH's Jonesy. Maybe it was the muddy pitch but he spent more time sliding around than standing up! Luckily I managed to jump over him a fair amount of times and we gave each other a bit of sh*t at the end of the game. There was no intent on his behalf to injure anyone, but yeah some of those slides were quite full on.

I only mentioned this because I think it tied up quite neatly with the whole "ref's who let things go too far" topic, see the tackle on the poor Seatoun lad. Especially when the rain starts falling, they should be more mindful of the consequences of some tackles rather than the actual intent of the player to injure someone.

Sliding, and sliding in studs up are two very, very different things.  Sliding to win the ball is part of the game which is, yes, more difficult to control in the mud.  Studs up is deliberate, or careless intent to injure or intimidate - or possibly, not probably, an incompetent attempt at a legit slide tackle.

hey I have heard from a reliable source, is it true that the 2nd place team in capital 2 gets automatic promotion to cap 1 this year. If this is true it would be the first time that I know of that this has happened. Does anyone know?????

read the regs - correct both teams get automatic if eligable.

3) At the end of the normal season, the following will determine promotion from Capital 2 and relegation from Capital 1: a) If the top two teams in Capital 2 are eligible for promotion, the top two teams in Capital 2 will be automatically promoted and the bottom two teams in Capital 1 will be automatically relegated. b) If the top team in Capital 2 is not eligible for promotion: (i) The team finishing second in Capital 2 (if eligible for promotion) will be automatically promoted (ii) The team finishing bottom in Capital 1 will be automatically relegated (iii) the team finishing third Capital 2 (if eligible for promotion) will play-off with the ninth-placed team in Capital 1 c) If the second-placed team in Capital 2 is not eligible for promotion: (i) The team finishing top in Capital 2 (if eligible for promotion) will be automatically promoted (ii) The team finishing bottom in Capital 1 will be automatically relegated (iv) the team finishing third in Capital 2 (if eligible for promotion) will play-off with the ninth-placed team in Capital 1 d) If, in either of the situations described in (b) and (c) above, the third placed team in Capital 2 is not eligible for promotion, there will only be one promoted team from Capital 2 and the ninth-placed team in Capital 1 will not be relegated. e) If neither of the teams finishing first and second in Capital 2 is eligible for promotion, the third placed team in Capital 2 will be automatically promoted and the team placed bottom in Capital 1 will be automatically relegated. f) When more than two teams are required to be relegated from Capital 1, the principle of promotion outlined in Paragraph 1(a) will be followed. bobboltontawa22011-07-09 22:38:11

If ALL PLAYERS were more mindful of the conditions injuries and less cards would make the game so much more enjoyable.......for REFS and the players ChopperHarris2011-07-10 17:47:56

heard tawa-a require 3 first teamers on Saturday to "assist" them beat the tawa bulldogs... but won't allow the bulldogs to recruit any.

That`s the way it should be in this grade, the top side given priority. Uni choked big time last year by losing to the Gossies, which ultimately had them conceding the title to Welly United.

Or the Gossies were the better team on the day.

Maybe they were, but I`m sure the goal at the start of the season was to have Uni A promoted...or maybe I`m wrong??

the way I heard it is the bulldogs have not requested any assistance from teams above - pretty consistant with there policy for most of the season - might as well stack the team later in the season against other clubs
