apparently the Venus Shield has always been held by the best team playing in a Wellington Federation-only competition. So, its currently held by Wairarapa. But, previously, in the days of multiple central leagues it was quite regularly held by club third teams - bc they had won the top Wellington comp. kinda strange, but apparently that's always been the deal.

It was mentioned, then we got talking about the O'Brien shield which from what I could gather was played for under the Ranfurly Shield rules by Wellington clubs only, but which has disappeared in the last few years. No one at the meeting could even remember who last won it let alone who might have it. That Venus Shield is a beauty though, if the O'Brien Shield can't be found then use the Venus Shield instead.

I've never seen it but it could well be. Someone said last night that it was about the same size as the Venus Shield. What year is that? I can identify a young Abes and a young Riddler. 2001, something like that?

true i remember the o'brien shield wainuiomata won it when they were one of the stronger teams in about 95 after beating jville at alem moore who had a great home record then in premierand wainui held it for about 2 seaons it was only up for grabs at home though, cant remember who took it off us?would be good if this was resurrected!! johnny2008-09-29 18:42:43
