Welly U Dreamers have bitten the bullet, accepted promotion and got out of the capital 3 travelling roadshow on instructions from the Chairman. No idea how competitive they will be but should do Ok.

so you gonna play in div 2 this year feverish??
I remember we beat you last year..mind you I only came off the bench in the late stages of the game, but I had played 90' with the 2nd team just before if I'm not mistaken.

hoping to see uni go straight back up this season (even if im not playing for them). a few good acquisitions although have lost a few defensive players. hopefully the uni holidays dont affect them as much this season.

haahah a few defensive players being jim, krip and..our much-missed goalie?? :-)

I think the defense will be Ok, by the way we played vs Island bay and both Krip and Jimmy were there.
You missed a great tackled on Postie by Krip. Good fun

as I say every time someone scores against him at training (which happens between 20-40 times).."it's like taking CANDIES from a baby" lol
nah he's an OK keeper, he just needs to stop partying and start training.

Plus we also have an international student who's willing to step up. we'll see how it goes.

Good luck with Wairarapa though.

I see from the draw there are 2 Uni teams in our grade,  which one is better?
Permalink Permalink

well the uni teams in div2 this year are their firsts and seconds, so the Gossies are their seconds, thus their weaker side. But saying that, the 2nds performed better and more consistant than the firsts last year, so we'll see.

know what the Romans used to say:
"Similia Similibus"...

To answer PuddleyPool:

In theory the team called University is the stronger side, but as it's been pointed out last year the Gossies performed very well (even at training they hardly got beaten by the 1st team) so what I'm trying to say is that it does not really matter.
As long as one Uni team goes back up to Capital 1.

Hope that helps.

Marist 2nds looking to back up from last year and hopefully go 1 or 2 places higher, had a mixed preseason losing on pens to eventual HP div 2 winner Lower Hutt, and losing a friendly to our div 4 team the Cavs (Marist's equivalent of the Dreamers) got a few new players plus the core of last years team, so will be interesting. Looks like a lot of quality teams in the grade. Are Wharfies Dreamers same outfit as last year or have they gone forth and mutiplied??

Friendly today Welly U  Dreamers 3 Miramar 1 but I think some of the Miramar side were at Culture Kicks, don't know what to read into it except that we always used to lose this friendly.

I busted my shoulder at the end of the a friendly game vs Stop Out last saturday, so it looks like the "university derby" will be missing its most bestest greatest player

Looking at the positive side, that means I can thoroughly enjoy the game with my six-pack from the stands (and by stands I mean the 2/3 benches located at Kelburn Park!

any comments on this weekends games. We had a good game and Karori and dominated play for large parts of the game but couldn't score to save ourselves. Missed a couple of good chances including a one on one to which the Karori keeper made a good save. a points a point, a clean sheet and it's a better start for us than last year.
Next weeks game looks tough with the gossies beating the uni firsts. fortunately for us easter holidays might come at the right time

well the Uni 1st XI lost 1-0 to the Uni Gossies (2nd team) in a most entertaining game. This just proves that the Senior Squad is made of a bunch of hard working guys who are interested in playing football at their highest possible level. It's not a case, I believe, that in the current first team squad there are at least 6-8 players who were in the 2nd team last year.

Next week both Uni teams have tough assignments (vs Stop out and Miramar respectevly).

Is there going to be a double header?

I don't get your prognosis on the Uni firsts losing to the seconds newzealandpower. If the seconds won surely that means that the firsts are going to have to step up and perform, adding extra pressure to certain players who would normally walk in to the firsts without much effort, though not nececssarily better than other players, more of a 'clique'? shabba1212009-04-05 17:32:18

Well there are two ways I can explain this. Firstly the First team coach has not been around for very long and he perhaps hasn't got a perfect understanding of all the players under his charge.
Secondly, the Senior Squad as we call it has always been made of one single bunch of players who are divided into 2 seprarate teams according to form, injury, availability etc.

That being said, I still think the 1st team should have done a lot better, that goes without saying. But at the same time it was the first game and obviously a few heads shall roll. And as you rightly pointed out the first team players will have to perform.
I guess we will see how things go in the coming weeks, although I'm quite worried about next saturday.

Do you know if Stop Out's second XI is mainly consists of African (Somali) players? Or am I getting two teams mixed up?

NZPower I think you are thinking about Stoke's Valley team this year, a big difference from last year. Stop Outs 2nd team are just a ragtag bunch, based on what I saw against you guys last year, you should roll them

We are a lot different side this year, heaps of talented young kids who have grown abit from last year with a couple of old fulla's chucked in. The African side is Stokes Valley.

Thanks guys, I always get so confused. I think many Stoke Valley 2nd team players (the africans) were part of Somalia at last year's Upper Hutt Multi Ethnic league where they beat us 2-1 in the semis. They were a really good team I remember.

And as for Stop Out, they always are good. I just can't believe I scored vs their 1st team (thanks to keeper mistake I have to admit), but both Uni teams really need a win on Sat so it will be an interesting game.

And before you ask, I will say this over and over throughout the course of the season, at least one of the 2 University sides needs to get promoted this year. Anything short of this will be considered as not meeting the proposed season target I'm afraid.
