yeah he played for the gossies. I heard he got concussed last week. Haven't spoken to him though so can't confirm.

On a different note, we had a 1-1 draw vs Karori today at ONEPOTO park! Funny little thing happened before the game. Basically no one was expecting to be cancelled/transferred as the weather has been great. Thank God we found out that we had been transferred just before we were going to make our way to Karori park :)

Anyway, our ref didn't turn up. The ref assessor called him and he agreed to come down to the new venue. He arrived and then started sulking and complaining that nobody had told him about the game being transferred. In the end he left. Pretty sad I guess.

We were lucky that there was a former National League ref there who stepped in.

The game was quite ugly to say the truth. Both goals came in the 1st half. Matt Wilson curled one in the top corner from a free kick and then Greenie converted via a header soon after.
Which brings me to my new point: Watch out for Greenie or he's gonna be signed by an A-League team! He had a great game. Didn't defend too much, but hell when he was going forward he gave it all he had. Smoked me a couple of times, and that sucked big time :)

It was a pretty hard game, with lots of tackles - from both sides. At the end of the day I think a draw was a pretty fair, although I think in the 2nd half we perhaps played a bit better than them. But to be honest they had a few good counter attacks that could have ended in a goal.

ahah story of my season! had a couple of injuries, plus my coach (awesome dude and great coaching skills) thinks of me as more of a power sub.

Hope I earned myself a call-up for the Yellow Fever 11 when we play opposition fans!

Interesting final weekend coming up...only three teams still in contention...

                                   P  W  D  L  GF  GA  Pt
Miramar Rangers       17 11  3  3  56  20  36
Olympic                      17 11  2  4  36  27  35
Tawa                         17 10  4  3  51  26  34

Miramar will win promotion if they beat Marist (who beat Wellington United today to end their chances); if they slip up, the winner of the Olympic v Tawa match could grab top spot.

If Miramar get promoted, they'll have their top three teams in the top three Wellington divisions; a good achievement.

Do 2nd in Cap 2 play 2nd bottom in Cap 1 for promotion/relegation?  I can't remember.

Is Tawa going to rise to the occasion this weekend to stop the Olympic promotion double?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
If we do the double on the Mar this sat, and Tawa beats Olympic, Tawa goes top and Olympic finish 3rd... or maybe 4th if Dreamers beat Gossies? Or is my maths wrong... Still a lot that could  happen in last games, makes for an interesting season finale.

I'm just glad The Dreamers won't go up. It would be a disgrace to have 2 teams called the Dreamers in Cap 1.

Yeah a bit sad we didn't end up getting into a spot where we could be promoted into capital one its been a pretty good season we haven't lost to tawa olympic or miramar who are all above so I suppose consistency and ruthlessness has been a bit of a problem and you get that with a younger team. We will be all the better for it next season I know after playing capital 1 last year we would have been more then competitive in that grade.

Oh well last game of the season against the gossies to look forward to should be a cracker and loads of fun. Hopefully Uni's other team come back to the club rooms after and we make a big night of it for the last game. Do you recken uni will mind us bringing spirits or bubbly into the club rooms after? are uni gonna put on any special beer deals for the last game? =) I suppose these questions are directed at nzpower because i know a lot of our lads would be keen.

I  thought you guys (Dreamers) were darn unlucky on Sat, given the possession and chances you had, especially in the first half, we considered ourselves very lucky not to be 2 or 3 down at half time. We really had no answer to you guys in the first 20-30 minutes. Were really rapt to get a win that got us out of any possible relegation trouble, sorry it tooks you guys out of the running tho. You certainly do have a very good side, and plenty of good young players, thought your left mid/striker was exceptional on Saturday. Makes a bit of a mockery of that Olympic dude saying there are no good young players in cap 2..utter scheie...

we've been on tequila all season long! and that explains our season lol!!!

Red Devil: I will talk to the committee and see what I can do for you, ok? I am always working at the bar, so the more people we get up there the better. And to be honest some teams are always a lot of fun to hang out with after the game! So you're definitely welcome to hang out with us.
I gotta say, I'm not sure they will be happy with you guys bringing booze up into the club rooms, but if you get a decent number of people, say anything from 8 people up, I'm sure we can work some kind of deal on beer/wine. If you have a phone number I'll flick at txt when I hear something back, ok? AH, we don't have an eftpos machine, so make sure you bring a briefcase full of money! :)

How many first teamers are going to want a game for the marist seconds? likewise Mar second teamers playing for the thirds?
Permalink Permalink

Bugger all

I think we have 3 guys who are going to be playing who have been in both squads all year. We are playing it all above board
Permalink Permalink

I know of two second teamers that will be playing for the thirds this weekend, but all above board as they have offered to play over the past few weeks, to keep fringe second teamers happy with more time for the seconds

I didn't think teams like Marist could drop players from their first team? Giving that the first team's season is over don't the rules say they can't be regraded?

Anyways, the seconds aren't going for promotion or trying to save themselves from relegation, so I think the second team will just want to have a bit of a fun in their last couple of games

Well done to the Mar, winning a willing contest 1-0 at the bobbledrome. We were keen to put in a performance to help assure Tawa and Olympic we didn't just roll over and give Mar the title. Well we certainly didn't roll over, going down to a late penalty.

Ref was "interesting" shall we say. We sure didn't get any change out of him and he made a series of "interesting" calls. My two highlights were:
- calling a drop ball after a ball hit him and fell advantageously to Miramar. Um... didn't he mean to say play on?
- threatening to book me for "the way I looked at him" moments after the Mar captain went through me late. Um... excuse me, for the way I looked at you?

Anyway, well done to the Mar worthy champions... I'm proud to say they earned it today.Silent_Assassin2009-08-15 19:24:01

Stop Out 2 - 2 University.

A very interesting game. We started off well and got the lead through a clinical header. Then we enjoyed a good 15-20 minutes of supremacy in the middle of the park, but we failed to gain anything out of it. In the last 20' of the first half Stop Out stepped it up and started to control the midfield and looked more and more threatening. They got the equalizer via a very nice through ball and some pretty naive Uni defending.

The second half started as the first one had ended, with Stop Out controlling much of the game. We had a bit of a shocker in the first 15-20' but, as it had happened to us in the first half, Stop Out didn't score whilst they were playing better. We undeservedly went ahead with another gem by Matt Wilson, and started playing again.

However some individual skills combined with good passing earned them the equalizer. Funny thing was that ball had gone into the goal but hitting the inner post it had bounced out straight away and the ref took a whole minute before asking our keeper what had actually happened. Our keeper was honest and the goal then awarded.

It was a very even game I think and both teams battled hard to finish the season on a high. A 2-2 draw is a fair result.

Congratulations to miramar on winning the league an good luck to Tawa in your promotion game. Also commiserations to seatoun and stop out (do stop out have a playoff or do they go straight down?). It's a real shame for seatoun, a club with a long and storied history like yours should have their first team as high as possible. Hopefully u can come straight back up nxt year. Guess it makes our gAme vs stop out next wk a dead rubber. Well done to the Marist boys on ysterdays match it was a real dog fight and although the mar deserved to win with the chances and possesion they had I am really proud of the lads for the grit and fight they showed. To miramar well done on a very solid performance, u certainly played some nice flowing football on a poor surface, and it was a tough very well contested game with plenty of passion, one of the ones u remember for a long time. I have one small quibble however, it would have been nice for the you guys to come back to our clubrooms for even one drink after the game given that ours was the feature match and our clubrooms are 3 metres from the pitch! It would have been a simple mark of respect after a great game.

Missed most of the game as I had to take our striker to the hospital.  But when I returned it did look a very even game and the draw as you said was a fair result.  Ma'a (hope that's how you spell it) still play's well for an old fella.  What did you guys think of our pitches? not bad eh

Gary Romijn has scored all the hatricks, on about 25 for the season. Has been golden boot for the last 4 seasons at Tawa i think. He is 28, not that old!

Think you are talkng about Graham Essel. He has gone up front a few times this year. Has been in the centre of defence most of the year. Think he is 45 or so. Still a quaility player! Mullet2009-08-17 11:53:00

Pudleypool: I meant to ask, how's your striker? He looked like he was in serious pain. One of those damn accidents. Hope he's all right! Your pitches? Goddamn, if Kelburn Park was half as good as your pitch #2 we would actually get to play on our home ground more than twice per season!! Ma is awesome, rumour has it that this might be his final season for the club..but I'll only believe it when I see it!

Mullet: I'm not sure if we're talking about the same guy. I was referring to the n.11 when you played Uni last. He had grey hair and scored a couple, and set up another one or two. He was a force to be reckoned with.
Anyhow, looking at the amount of goals you lot scored this season it doesn't really matter how old your players are, does it!!

yeah he didnt look to good when I got him to the hospital.  Had to get him a wheelchair when we got there as he was in to much pain hobbling along with me helping him.  He's going to his GP this week to see if he requires an operation after swelling goes down. If he doesnt need an op he's gonna cop it from the lads, what a moaner

Enjoyed the game against Uni on Saturday. Newzealandpower summed the game up well a draw was probably a far result.
Disappointing to get relegated to cap 3. No play off game for us. we go straight down.
I thought we were fairly competitive for the most part of the season apart from the two floggings we got from the mar and Tawa. But you can't expect to stay in any league with 7 draws and only 1 win.
The good thing is for the most part we have a young side who will be better for the experience. If we can keep the balance of the squad, stop the soft goals and put a few more away we should do well in cap 3.
Looking forward to finishing of the season this weekend against Marist. Last time we played in was fairly even.
Well Done Miramar for winning the league and good luck to Tawa in the playoff
