Rovers went 1-0 up and always led throughout the game with wellington playing catch up... were dominating most of the game, but some classy finishes by Wellington uniteds striker and poor finishing by Napier and some good saves by the United keeper kept them in the game.

was tied up at 3-3 with about 10 to go when pressure was put on the oranje and they were forced to go back when Andrew Abba intercepted and slipped the ball past an oncoming goalie.
Rovers struggled to keep possesion but played some good football at some stages.

Stu Wilson got 2
Andy Pickering got 1
Andrew Abba got 1

Wellington united striker got 3. looked foreign? but he finished classy.
Chested a ball down about 25-30 yards out and volleyed over keeper.

1-0 Napier after couple of mins
1-1 after 10/15 when Hicham beat 3 or 4 players, rounded the keeper and scored
2-1 Napier from a clear offside
2-2
3-2 Napier just after half time.  Great finish from Wilson
3-3 with a 30m chest volley
4-3 in last 5ish when a underhit abck pass was intercepted by abba.

Other highlights include Napier's striker trying to kick the head off our CB while lying on the ground.

30 Metre chest, what is he, a super heavyweight lifter or World 5000 metre butterfly champ.

That Andy Abba is one quick kid isnt he.

Rovers stretch lead
27.04.2009
ANENDRA SINGH

When it's tight on the sports field there's a dire need to stretch.

In soccer, the way to loosen a tight defence is to play out wide to wingers whose ensuing crosses often create numerous opportunities for strikers to have shots at goal.

Napier City Rovers did so with aplomb during their first home game of the Central League competition at Bluewater Stadium, in Park Island, yesterday, to claim three points.

Wellington United didn't and paid the price in their 4-3 defeat. The visitors did not play constructively most of the 90 minutes, instead opting for adventurous speculators to their Moroccan striker, Hicham Kamri, who scored a hat-trick of goals.

The 34-year-old, who has been working as a telecommunications engineer in the capital city for the past year, had Rovers defenders Jonathan Taylor, Marama Thompson and Regan Cameron on their toes.

Rovers coach Matt Chandler told SportToday: ``He [Kamri] was very good and we didn't look after him as well as we'd like to have.'

With the calibre of ex-All White Taylor and national secondary school representative Thompson, Chandler expected better from his defensive line-up after their second win from five matches of the season, including a draw in the 10-team league.

Wellington coach Ross Durrant was ``pretty dirty' on the result but put their loss down to the first three minutes of each half and their act of ``charity'.

Durrant's camp felt a 3-1 victory to Wellington would have been a fairer result but in the same breath took their hats off to the Rovers, especially striker Andrew Abba and midfielder Stuart Wilson.

The act of charity was midfielder Victor Zaia's blunder in the 85th minute that gifted Abba the ball 28m from the goalmouth and allowed the nippy Solomon Islander to place a ground ball in the left corner past a defenceless goalkeeper, Dale Warburton.

Ironically, the Zaia brain explosion was one of the few times the visitors chose to use the sidelines to attack, but the midfielder, instead of using his teammates within knocking distance, backtracked towards his goal and made a sweeping cross.

Rovers struck first in the 7th minute from Andy Pickering but Kamri equalised three minutes later.

Wilson nudged the hosts 2-1 ahead from point-blank range on the far post in the 25th after a well-timed cross from William Stanger.

Kamri again levelled terms in the 32nd minute after latching on to a through ball from Richard Gray to plant a screamer from an acute angle past a rising Shaun Peta in goal.

It wasn't until three minutes into the second half that Wilson broke the deadlock from inside the 18m box with a deft strike.

In the goal of the match, Kamri positioned himself in anticipation of an aerial clearance from Thompson's header 30m out. He chested the ball before volleying it to the top of the net for yet another equaliser.

Cameron made some fantastic crosses to a lethargic Pickering who, unfortunately, didn't do justice to them. He should have been substituted earlier.

Teenager Abba has to work on his upper body to ensure he doesn't become a pushover for burly defenders.

He spent a fair bit of his time on the ground.

More news on the Miramar front,
Have heard that Matt Calcott is to be the new coach at Miramar.
This is would all make sense if you way up the following,
Matt lives in the area,
Matt has the pedigree to coach at that level,
As I understand it Matt and Dave Wilson have not being seeing eye to eye lately.
Any thoughts?

Why would Matt leave a full-time coaching and administration position at Wests to join Miramar on a part-time basis, especially after such a promising start, it wouldn't make sense? From what I have heard he has moved out to that part of the world and his relationship with Dave has never been better. I would say this rumour has 0 credibility at best

Wests are probably looking for a Porirua resident who has done some coaching and stands at 5'2"

I don't belive this for a second. Calcott would never shift to a club whose reserve team plays home games on a Saturday.

With Matthew Keane in the club the Miramar clubrooms will never be dry.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

So who is coaching the Mar this weekend?

And can someone explain the personal vendetta ParkLife has against all things Wellington United..
Permalink Permalink

In Parkie's defence he/she has it in for all clubs, and generally a write-up for a team is by someone who plays for that club or even that team.

John Cameron is taking over the Mar gaffership I believe.
He led my rep team to national glory in the late eighties and came up with some genius team chants (they were so bad they were good)

Miramar.  Try JC, and not the one that has his birthday on 25th December

As for Park Life having a vendetta against Wellington United, I think it stems from the fact that he is quite weak minded and just follows the opinion of the majority of football people in the region

Sure, you've got the right Cameron there feverish?

Goal fest in the Central League tihis week. 17 goals in 3 games. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I'm picking Petone 5-0 over Team 'Naki And Wests v Wairarapa 3-2 to Wests. That'll make 27 goals over the weekend. That'll bring back the punters.

Its no longer a problem.
