Marist continued their barren run of form when playing in New Plymouth in the Central League as they crashed to a 3-2 loss to Team Taranaki yesterday.
The visitors took the lead with a well-worked goal in the 40th minute to David McCorkindale and they held that lead till halftime.
But a madcap 15-minute spell after halftime cost Marist as Team Taranaki banged home three goals and put the game out of reach for the Steve Green-coached side.
They managed to pull one back through Khair Jones with five minutes to go, but it was too little, too late.
Green was left wondering what might have been considering his side were 1-0 ahead at halftime.
"We were patchy," he said. "We weren't very good. They seemed to be sharper to the ball and half-a-yard faster.
"It was always going to be hard and we haven't got any points here [Taranaki] for three seasons. Taranaki seem to be our bogey team."
Winger Nathan Morath was a late withdrawal for Marist and they missed his pace on the flank.
Green said he was impressed with the work-rate of Ethan Dent up front too.
North End squandered a two-goal lead and allowed Red Sox to snatch a point from their 2-all draw in Western Premiership action on Saturday.
After goals from Dave Boyack and Matthew Bruhn, North End looked to have the points in the bag, but a five-minute lapse in concentration cost them.
Player-coach Dave Boyack said he was happy with his team's effort, but the outcome wasn't the desired one.
"We should've scored a few more goals and a couple of defensive lapses cost us," he said.
"We are pretty happy with the way we are playing, but it's not the result we wanted."
Takaro International underlined their quality with a 4-1 win over Wanganui Athletic at Wembley Park in Wanganui.

It continued a good run for Takaro, which beat Palmerston North Boys' High School 2-0 last week.
Calvin Horne was the star for Takaro netting two goals.
Coach Sam Put was happy with a dominant four-goal, first-half performance which set up the win.
"I said to the boys I wanted four goals in the first half and then the job would be done," he said.
"I'm very happy because last year we weren't being challenged."
Their clash with North End in two weeks is shaping up as a pivotal game for both teams' chances at the league title.
Feilding lost 5-3 to Wanganui City in a high-scoring affair.
Massey Women got their season on track with a 2-0 win over Upper Hutt.
Playing away from home, Massey started the game a lot stronger than last week and the win was set up from great performances in the heart of the midfield by Kelsey Rutuene and Leah Gallie.
Massey Coach Richard Dalby said he was happy with how his team responded after last week's disappointing loss.
"The girls started a lot stronger," he said. "They were better this week; they weren't asleep for the first-half."
The goal-scorers were Rhonda Bridges, who continued her fine form from last week, while Jess Dent scored the other.
