according to miramars fb page - miramar v wairarapa game transfered to sunday even then may not be played.

Will definitely be played Sunday, either at DF at 2pm, or Wakefield #1 at 3.30pm if DF not playable.

Well done Miramar. For getting into "jims" ear enough for him not to award a blantant penalty, and for Michael "orange" White for the headbut on James Oxtoby, only to be given a yellow instead of a Red, and then to score the winner from the original free kick. Oh and big ups go to Miramars assistant coach for thanking the Wai United Supporters for their support..your a dick! Nevermind though. We missed a penalty and you guys won the egg cup, and we still have the big cup to play for

Came down today for NCR to have a look at Rapa. Hope we don't wear the backlash of some very bad ref decisions.

As a neutral observer today TSMA I thought it was a hard fought battle between two side desperate for the 3 and could have gone either way, but not converting your penalty was the difference.I'm sure you would rather lose today than next week.

And no, Mar assistant coach no relation. We don't grow corn and marry our cousins in the big city !

Have to admire your passion. I'm a sore loser too !!
Best of luck for the BIG Cup. Everyone in Welly right behind you and hoping you win. Go get 'em !!

Calcott just nearly crashed into me. Hope he doesnt get breath tested.
Rapa were the better team in the second half I saw. Should go well in the Cup. Cowan is a moany bugger. Well done Mar.

I do agree with you Spurs on the missed penalty. Game would have changed if Banksy had converted it. But, i suppose, at the end of the day its just football and what some of us are passionate about. Bring on next weekend. Should be a cracker!

Footage of the what I thought should of been a Penalty at 8.55

Footage of the given penalty and miss is at 9.40

Definitely should of been a penalty at 8:55 - clearly moves the ball to the left and gets his leg taken out. Horrible penalty from Banks though

While it looks bad, the one thing you don't get is the player that is fouled complaining. He gets up, gets on with it, and even heads to the corner. I think if he was fouled and it not given, you might have gotten even a slight bit of protest but not a single thing, in fact doesn't even look at the ref. I'm not entirely convinced

Whoops - Lower Hutt could have played an unregistered player in their last game v Napier. Could cost Hamish Watson golden boot, as this now should be recorded as a 2 - 0 win to Napier!

John Sutherland        7

Wiremu Patrick         4

Despite achieving their lowest points total in the Central League since 2005 Miramar won the league relatively comfortably, although the title was not sealed until their last game of the season when they defeated Wairarapa 3-2. Coach Calcott will be reasonably happy with the start that his side had to the season and only losses to Napier and Petone made the title race a bit more interesting in the closing weeks.

The 5-0 cup exit at the hands of beaten finalists Napier will go down as one of the worst results for a Miramar side in recent history and something that will have been difficult to swallow especially since Miramar were the defending champions. With Calcott coaching Team Wellington this summer it will be interesting to see who he brings back to Dave Farrington next winter as he will surely be strengthening his squad in an attempt to be the first side to win back-to-back titles since the Central League was re-instated in 2005.

Central League Season Review

Napier City Rovers

P      W     D     L       F     A       GD      Pts     Position

18    9       5     4      29   20       9        32       2nd

2009       18    6     2     10    27  39    -12    20     7th

2008       18   10    3     5      50  32     18    33     4th

Cup Progress:    Runners-Up

Top 3 goal scorers:

Stu Wilson                         13

Matt Hastings                    5

Andy Bevin                         2

Bill Robertson                    2

Napier surprised everyone including themselves by finishing 2nd in the league and making the Chatham Cup final. A slow start to the season saw them play a number of their opening fixtures away from Park Island and they only managed to pick up a handful of points early on. However, a long unbeaten run saw them finish strongly and they can gain some satisfaction for finishing above Wairarapa who beat them on cup final day. Also, if Lower Hutt lose their point gained on the last day of the season for fielding an unregistered player Napier will finish only two points behind Miramar.

Napiers strong season was built on a solid defence who only conceded a league-leading 20 goals from their 18 games. It is probably just as well they did have a tight defence as they could only manage 29 goals at the other end which was only better than Lower Hutt and Palmerston North Marist. Stu Wilsons great run of goal-scoring form carried the side through the latter part of the season, and after a slow start he was rewarded with a share of the Golden Boot trophy.

Napier will have a problem backing up this seasons effort next season, and it will be up to coach Hastings to try to recapture the team spirit and mid-to-late-season consistency that propelled the team so close to the league and cup holy grail.

With Napier and Maycenvale the only Central representatives left it may well fold.
Rumour has it that a Capital Super League/Division will be formed when these 2 teams exit.

Miramar
Wairarapa
Wests
Olympic
Lower Hutt
Petone
Tawa

Wellington United
Upper Hutt
Stop Out

Any truth to the rumour?

one week before this season kicked off we were told in this thread that Wairarapa were going to withdraw, that CF has gicen them 2 days to decide, that Phil wasn't going to coach and that Elvis had trialled for Olympic. All of which proved on the button. For next season I predict that Shane Rufer will sign Wynton for Wests, and that we ( Welly U) will import a speedy winger from Jamaica called Usain Bolt. Just wait and see.

Wasted on the wing. Stick him down the middle

Re the rumour, why would a team (Napier) with a strong club base, reached the final of the CC and finished 2nd in the CL, pull out. Only other option for them would be joining the Northern League and I cant see that happening.

Or are the rumour starters suggesting Capital Football are pulling the plug on the league

Can not see the CL clubs allowing the CL to fold. As it is not Cap F decision. Central and capital make up the CL board. Their has been rumours for a few years about a move to 12 teams as some clubs see this as the only way they can get to CL.

Central League Season Review

Wairarapa United

2009       18    7     2      9     39  48     -9    23      6th

2008       Promoted

Cup Progress:    Champions

Top 3 goal scorers:

Seule Soromon                 11

Campbell Banks                7

Adam Cowan                     5

The team with no home ground, no club rooms, no committee, and with one guy as chairman, president, coach and manager (but with plenty of money) finally started to repay some of the investment made by winning the Chatham Cup in 2011. How the TAB made Napier the favourites to lift the trophy is baffling given that Wairarapa had already beaten them twice in the league this season, had 8 players playing virtually a home final, and Napiers best player (Andy Bevin) being overseas.

After the Cup final captain Adam Cowan stated We came second in our [Central] league and have been one of the best teams all year. Adam must have had some Kava in his system already as they were third at the time of the game and also finished third after their hangover fuelled last day draw with Petone. They were one of the better teams in the league this season and were title contenders until the 2-3 loss to Miramar left their double dreams in tatters. They eventually ended up 5 points behind Miramar and will surely admit that the cup run took some of the steam out of their title chase.

They won fewer games, scored fewer goals and gained fewer points than last season when they also finished third, making this season the first since Phil Keinzley took over the team that they have failed to improve on the previous seasons league position.  However, it is not time to ring the alarm bells as surely with a new artificial surface to be built over the summer and with the continued investment in the playing squad you can expect Wairarapa to be competing strongly in both league and cup next season.
