Fuck this stupid game
Congrats Miramar.
Napier 4 Tawa 1 in the other game today
Would you like a piece of fish to go with the chips on both your shoulders ?
As a neutral observer today TSMA I thought it was a hard fought battle between two side desperate for the 3 and could have gone either way, but not converting your penalty was the difference.I'm sure you would rather lose today than next week.
And no, Mar assistant coach no relation. We don't grow corn and marry our cousins in the big city !
Have to admire your passion. I'm a sore loser too !!
Best of luck for the BIG Cup. Everyone in Welly right behind you and hoping you win. Go get 'em !!

Despite achieving their lowest points total in the Central League since 2005 Miramar won the league relatively comfortably, although the title was not sealed until their last game of the season when they defeated Wairarapa 3-2. Coach Calcott will be reasonably happy with the start that his side had to the season and only losses to Napier and Petone made the title race a bit more interesting in the closing weeks.
The 5-0 cup exit at the hands of beaten finalists Napier will go down as one of the worst results for a Miramar side in recent history and something that will have been difficult to swallow especially since Miramar were the defending champions. With Calcott coaching Team Wellington this summer it will be interesting to see who he brings back to Dave Farrington next winter as he will surely be strengthening his squad in an attempt to be the first side to win back-to-back titles since the Central League was re-instated in 2005.

Napier surprised everyone including themselves by finishing 2nd in the league and making the Chatham Cup final. A slow start to the season saw them play a number of their opening fixtures away from Park Island and they only managed to pick up a handful of points early on. However, a long unbeaten run saw them finish strongly and they can gain some satisfaction for finishing above Wairarapa who beat them on cup final day. Also, if Lower Hutt lose their point gained on the last day of the season for fielding an unregistered player Napier will finish only two points behind Miramar.
Napiers strong season was built on a solid defence who only conceded a league-leading 20 goals from their 18 games. It is probably just as well they did have a tight defence as they could only manage 29 goals at the other end which was only better than Lower Hutt and Palmerston North Marist. Stu Wilsons great run of goal-scoring form carried the side through the latter part of the season, and after a slow start he was rewarded with a share of the Golden Boot trophy.
Napier will have a problem backing up this seasons effort next season, and it will be up to coach Hastings to try to recapture the team spirit and mid-to-late-season consistency that propelled the team so close to the league and cup holy grail.

The team with no home ground, no club rooms, no committee, and with one guy as chairman, president, coach and manager (but with plenty of money) finally started to repay some of the investment made by winning the Chatham Cup in 2011. How the TAB made Napier the favourites to lift the trophy is baffling given that Wairarapa had already beaten them twice in the league this season, had 8 players playing virtually a home final, and Napiers best player (Andy Bevin) being overseas.
After the Cup final captain Adam Cowan stated We came second in our [Central] league and have been one of the best teams all year. Adam must have had some Kava in his system already as they were third at the time of the game and also finished third after their hangover fuelled last day draw with Petone. They were one of the better teams in the league this season and were title contenders until the 2-3 loss to Miramar left their double dreams in tatters. They eventually ended up 5 points behind Miramar and will surely admit that the cup run took some of the steam out of their title chase.
They won fewer games, scored fewer goals and gained fewer points than last season when they also finished third, making this season the first since Phil Keinzley took over the team that they have failed to improve on the previous seasons league position. However, it is not time to ring the alarm bells as surely with a new artificial surface to be built over the summer and with the continued investment in the playing squad you can expect Wairarapa to be competing strongly in both league and cup next season.
