I agree. 2 footed from behind is a straight red. To be fair to the guy I think he was intent on getting the ball back but a bobsled from behind  with studs up is a straight red.

Seriously what are you people watching? From behind?? You are talking about the tackle in the Miramar game?? The lad from Olympic was coming out to the ball and the Miramar player was coming onto it, so there was definately no Bobsled tackle from behind. You people have no idea of what a good firm tackle is. Both players were commited but the Olympic player went in harder because he wanted to the win the ball more and there was a size difference in players which i think also played a part in the refs decision as the Miramar player flew over the top of the Olympic player. It looked worse than it was. You are all saying that players arent allowed to be commited and you dont like strong players in your leagues. It was a fair tackle and there shouldnt have even been a card. The english league is quicker and more physical than the league here which is probably why you deemed the lad that got sent off to be too physical. Those tackles are very commen in england especially the ones where they take the ball 1st which he clearly did!!!!

It wasn't from behind. But it was still a dangerous tackle. You can commit to a tackle, doesn't make it a good one. You can think you are doing everything right and still end up so wrong! Looking at the video, I'm noy so sure it deserved a straight red. But yeah, its a yellow. even if he did get ball 1st, he still got the player.
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

If he hadn't gone in studs up he wouldn't have been sent. The fact that he went in studs up gave the ref opportunity to send him off because it was dangerous. Personally, I probably would have given a yellow, but I can see why the ref gave a red.

If you don't fly in studs up there's a lot less risk both for you (risk of getting sent off) and the guy you're tackling.

Not sure how you can say that was from behind.  Was clearly from in front.

Bit like this one from Flamini: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96sR6bWjiKU

A straight red for my money, front on both feet sprigs up is never going to look good.
If you put the opposing player at a great risk of danger like happened there you don't deserve to stay on the field.

Now you are just taking the piss.

I don't think anyone is saying you can't be comitted. But if you miss time it a tackle, you've got to expect consequences, especially when leaving your feet like that.

Not sure why you raise the English league.  a bad tackle is a bad tackle. Not matter what league you play in.

ITT: The Guv'Nor defends his horrible tackle.

I never said the tackle was from behind, but it was a very poor tackle (whatever part of the world you're from). I think the difference between that and a "strong" legitimate tackle is that he left his feet to lunge for the ball which, in my opinion, is when you effectively lose control of the way you enter the tackle. You can probably get away with kicking someone as hard as you want if you're on your feet and you get the ball first, it's not going to look reckless most of the time - but it's a strong tackle.

Maybe the Guv's attitude is a fair reflection of the number of cards Olympic have accumulated this season so far as well.

Ok I had a look at it again (on a better screen) and I was wrong it wasn't from behind but from the side as the other player got to the ball.It still appeared to be 2 footed and as has been said he went in with studs up, which is a straight red.

It is a little bit funny that someone discussing the merits of a tackle has a video of Sigmund smashing Kruse in the face as their avatar.

If the Olympic player was committed he would have won the ball.
He had the ball passed to him and had to run 5 yards whilst the Miramar player had 20 yards to run. It was a studs up tackle so he got what he deserved, a red card. Hope the club makes him pay the fine for not getting to the ball quicker.

A dog with a bone :)

It was one footed and face on. Its pretty hard to make a tackle without studs up. Very harsh red and I think it should be looked at and reduced to a yellow. Not sure where the argument about the English leagues is coming from though. I don't think a Miramar player would have been sent for the same tackle.

This. Also, where in my avatar does it say Siggy's tackle is legal?

Pigeon, it was a bad tackle have a look at the video, because you clearly haven't. Don't question the ref because I'm pretty sure the guy with the whistle has more affiliation to the greeks than the mar, I could be wrong though. To say there is bias involved is a joke. Olympic need to pull their heads in, too many cards and far too much moaning about it afterwards.

Good luck the Wairarapa Boys against Wests today in Masterton. First game of the season on the Sports Bowl, and if years past is anything to go by, bring your 24mm sprigs, as it has been raining consistently all day yesterday and still raining today. Cant imagine the field holding up too well

Remarkable come back from Wai united. 3 nil down at half time, then Seule Soroman scores off his left foot just after half time. 3-1. Give another 20 minutes of pressure from United and Seule Soroman scores agin off his left peg. 3-2. West staring to wilt a little and then its squared up at 3 all by Carl Shailer. Just needed another 5 minutes and may have taken the 3 points, but it was not to be. 3 all final result

will see how the team operates without Adam or Scott next week against Tawa, as they both picked up their 5th yellow cards of the campaign. All in aid of the Waitak game in a fortnight/

had a lol when the goal kick at 12:30, going strait up the middle, got blown over the sideline by a strong southerly gust. Davey F looking quite cut up now too.

Shaun Peta, take a bow - seen this guy save many a peno.
