If it works for every other league in the World why do you think it will not work now?
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea etc.

Perhaps "get you nowhere in the short term" is the true statement.

But to be fair to the Rapa and Big Phil (Keinzley, not Scolari) those boys have all been there a while, coin notwithstanding.

I think they will be title contenders this year.

In other news, Wests have pulled out of a 1st team friendly they scheduled with us (Petone) for Sunday because they don't have enough players.

Look for a bunch of last minute TeeDub recruits there I'm guessing.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

In my opinion the NZFC has killed any real passion. You win central league, then what? Theres no promotion to a 'national league', and without that theres no chance at O-league, no chance at Club World Cup... but i guess thats another argument for another time in another thread.

Id almost look at that like a good thing. Gives less incentive for clubs to spend big money on players, and more money on coaching/development.

That's flawed logic anyway.

Ultimately, unless you're a complete mercenary who just wants to win for money, the only reward of winning any football competition is the fact that you win it.

If you keep following your logical train along AJ13, you get to the Club World Cup and win it - so what?  That doesn't qualify you for anything.

Most players want to play in the best league they can.  That's a personal motivation.  If you're in it, you want to win it.  Just to say you did.  As whatsupdoc says, it's about knocking the bastard off, and maybe going the next step individually into a higher league.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

This is NZ. Maybe for Barca its just another piece of silverware, but it wouldve meant a whole lot more to a NZ club. All Im saying is that I would rather see Miramar Rangers or Central Utd at the Club World cup than Team Wellington or Auckland City, especially when theyre all just Central/Northern League players anyway.

so they can get slaughtered and we lose our spot in the cwc anyway? no thanks. id rather a stacked nzfc side do what auckland city did this year. what you propose is a massive step backward for nzf surely.

Completely disagree for all the reasons discussed in various NZFC vs Club-based National League threads.

At what point does a competition become worth winning for you by the way? Winning the Central League is pointless because it doesn't lead to anything. Neither does the Chatham Cup. Is that pointless too?

I think Wairarapa United winning central league would bring profiles for other players within that team.  This goes onto bigger things for those players.  Look at Suele Soroman.  Played Capital Premiere in his first year with Wairarapa who won the league....signed with HBU for the summer.  If Wairarapa hadnt won cap prem, would of this happened?  Players will always get looked at if there teams are getting the results.  Ok, players that already have a profile before the play helps, but Suele wasnt on radar until his team (and him) got results.  Also WU have never won Central League/Chatham cup so it would be good to make some history.

Ian Sandbrook is 26, was captain of NZ A , NZ secondry schools and was a key member of Manawatu. Had made himself unavailable for all football for the last 18 months due to cricket administration.

Shame for the young local ( improving )  Wairarapa boys who seem to be getting further away from playing in central league everytime another new name comes along, but as a local non wairarapa player said today at least they can watch and have a decent level of football in the Wairarapa, were theres an up there must be a down.

Modelled on the srtucture of global club football, it falls short of a few things really. If you win the second tier of Spanish, English... most other competitions in the world, you get a chance at promotion. No longer the case in NZ. West Brom could set a plan to make the Champions league in 3 years. While Western Suburbs could NOT expect to make the O-league, ever. With Aussie leaving for Asia there was every chance we couldve seen our local clubs play against those of other nations.

How many players in these global competitions also play in the second tier when theyre done with the top? None. How many in NZ? All, or at very least most.

You're getting proffesional football confused with local club football i think. Those players can still aspire to play in a more (semi) pro environment with their NZFC clubs then go on to win that and go to the O-League. I dont see how a better standard competition is a bad thing for NZF to be honest.Tegal2010-02-16 13:51:48

Ive been thinking, would there be room for the old National league being run at the same time as Central/Northern/Southern(?), then NZFC could resume over summer? I reckon the top clubs squaring off would be gold. And extra incentive after central league... etc

I guess it comes down to money though.

What would then be the extra incentive after the national league? Where does it end..

Thats my point, there is none. I just miss the days of club based stuff. Maybe it needs to be structured differently? I dont know, i havnt been around long enough.
