Yet everyone calls Wests 2nd team a bunch of schoolkids. Are they not developing these guys? What do you think Ole academy is for?

Ok, local talent then. How many of that second team are from Porirua? How many at Ole are from Porirua? How many of them have come right through the Wests junior ranks into these squads? Sweet f**k all.

And their second team are probably called school kids because they dont play any better than a bunch of kids. The only reason they never get relegated to Cap 1 is because the squad gets stacked with 1st team players at the close of a sh*te season.

My point is that theres lots of local talent in these juniors, but what the kids/parents themselves dont realise is that the club doesnt care about them.

Tawa capitalised on the chances they created, that was pretty much all their was to it. 3 well taken goals from Mike Ramaekers aka The Poaching Mouse.

The sad part is certain (not all) Tawa supporters strutting around the clubrooms afterwards "beating their chests" as if they'd just won the league. Fair play n' all but its a long season for all the teams involved.

I can safely say Tawa won't win the league, but at the same time they won't do any disservice to their club or their supporters, nor do I think they will be relegated. I say its healthy to have more than 1 team from this part of the province in the Central League and it should add some much needed spice to the 2010 season.

Now im sure someone will find some sentence in their where im bashing Tawa, not so - all the best to the red n' yellow.

We had two Americans today. Nate Winkel who has been in New Zealand for a few years now and Dan O'Brien who has come this year. All this talk of a team full of Americans is stupid.

that seems like a silly argument to me. how many olympic players live in Newtown? Or Mirimar players that live in Mirimar?

How many clubs in Wellington in the Cent Prem league can say that their team is full of locals or even players that have come through the junior ranks at the club and are still their, in the words of Scribe NOT MANY IF ANY.

These parents would have been parents that were quite happy to take things from the club when the going was good for them and their teens/young men, ie all the gear that gets dished out etc, and I am sure they would have been Dave this and Dave that and the club this and the club that, and as soon as they are not in the picture anymore, the club is sh*te I am sure you know what I mean.

If we were to be a little less parochial in our outlook (although I appreciate this is the "Central League" thread) young players want to come to/are recruited (aka poached) by Wests (depending on your viewpoint) because they believe that the club (along with Ol�) provides an excellent development environment.  This has been the case in years past with the previous coaching staff and is, I'm sure, still the philosophy this season.  Of course, doing well in the leagues/cup is important too (and Wests have certainly won their fair share of silverware in the recent past) but many of these kids have aspirations towards higher honours than Central League (with all due respect) and believe (along with their parents) that Wests is as good a vehicle as any, in Wellington at least, for helping to achieve these aspirations.  Whether they are good enough (or have the desire to put the required work in) to move onto higher honours or not only time will tell.  What is certain is that Wests has an excellent record of developing players onto higher honours (as do many clubs I'm sure).  For instance, I have been told that during Dave Wilson's tenure at the club, Wests have placed, or been significantly involved in placing, more than 30 players into U.S. scholarship programmes.

What is for sure is that to succeed players have to have the right attitude as well as ability.   I've only been around the Wellington football scene for 5 years or so but, anecdotally, I get the impression that in some cases there was no doubting the talent of the players who harbour resentment towards Wests, but what was lacking was their application.  It's not enough to talk the talk - you have to walk the walk as well. Equally, also andecdotally, I have heard stories of ex-Wests players who don't particularly have an axe to grind with the club but who were possibly treated more shabbily than they deserved.

But hey - every club in the world will have examples of players who feel they have not been treated with the respect they deserve and have left for new pastures and grumbling resentment towards their previous club.  Every club has "skeletons" in its closet.  One of Wests' is the heinous crime of signing players to win football matches (stop the f*ckin' presses - this story's a whopper!)  Quite apart from the obvious benefits on the team's performances of having "name" players in the ranks, a perhaps under-appreciated by-product of this is the positive effect that the work ethic/attitude/experience of these "name" players has on the younger players who train and play with them week-in, week-out.

So, for those who delight in taking pot-shots at Wests please carry on even though there are equally deserving cases towards whom the same vitriol can be directed.  You've obviously been terribly wronged by Wests in the past, but, as is always the case, there are two sides to every story...

Edit:  Probably should have said but forgot to do so in my ramble above - well done to Tawa - on balance they deserved to win the game.  I agree with Piney - the difference was that they just wanted it more.  The three goals were all excellent strikes.

handle the loss, accept the crap that Angus gives out, and beat them at redwood. simple really...

Petone v Olympic was an odd affair. I missed the first 20 and it was 6-0 to Olympic when I arrived. Pretty even for the last 25 of the first half. Petone won the second half 2-1 with Olympic scoring in the last minute. Petones second was a fantastic team goal.

Too easy. Undefeated League streak continues.

Just arrived back from the Mar/Wairarapa game.  Started off well for united and looked like the better team.  Imray made 2 point blank fantastic saves and then the Mar counter attacked and scored.  1 nil half time to the Mar.  The Mar then scored straight after half time to make it 2 nil.  A few sub changes with James Oxtoby (WU) (groin) replaced by Peta Rabo.  Ian Sanbrook and Carl Shailer replaced at the same time.  Wairarapa kept pushing and Seule scored from a great through ball from George B.  2-1.  Then Mar made a sub and the player that went on scored with his first touch. 3-1.  Then controversy.....  Seule Soroman latched on to a through ball which he attempted to flick over his head, into the defenders arms which were raised above him.  Referee awarded Wairarapa a penalty.  A couple of Mar players had wandered over to what it looked like giving the Linesman a serve.  The lino then flagged the referee to come over.  After a breif discussion, the Penalty was reversed....to the dismay of the Wairarapa coach, subs and supporters.  Things were said on the sideline and from the crowd regarding this and still cant remember a linesman over ruling a ref AFTER the decision had been made... Strange to me.

Is it at all possible the lino saw the defender head the ball and not handle the Ball?
