[Like I said, i'm the first to complain, and naturally like all clubs, anger and frustration is a part of the game. Like most of the bags on Olympic here, most of them are based on this huge stereotype that over the years has continued to grow, like most of the sh*t on here about us has, regardless of results, and efforts to improve this. But just the type of complaints from the Tawa supporters differs from the Olympic supporters.I was listening to some of the calls and complaints coming from the Tawa supporters and I couldn't help but thinking, what game are these guys watching? Do they know this is a football game and not tiddlywinks?

Uncle Steve, now you are having a laugh. Having played for Olympic for the 2nds for about 5 years (which meant i watched a LOT of first team games) Olympic fans are just as passionate, and let me tell you, just as loud.

Just cos you swear in a different language doesn't make it better.
Times have changed big boy. What i meant by this was, the type of complaints were excessive. Every 2 seconds. Hey ref he didn't take the throw in from where it went out, Hey ref the balls moving, hey line-o keep up with play, hey ref his socks aren't regulation, hey ref he just shoulder barged our player, hey ref, hey ref. Yeah alright, once every now and then send some abuse their way, but not every three seconds. Its not a big deal, so i could care less, but i thought it warranted a rant.

Beginning to appear Tawa could be the New Miramar for Olympic passion.

Maybe they could lend some players to their reserve team to get them into a decent grade

Nah Wests starting XI has a few locals:

Matt Wilson
Fraser Colson
Jordan Cooper

and a few on the bench:

Hayden Sander
Corey Mills
Ethan and Ryan Cain
Mark Bartlett
Joe Harris
Matt McKay

Wests are more like GC in the fact that they are basically only a first and reserve team club (so I hear?). Rapa's first team seams to be pretty similar to what GC did though (which failed miserably, obviously).

Is F Colson as decent at footy as he is at cricket?

same sh*t different year.  Jealousy gets you no where. where would the phoenix be without Terry.  Probably in the same boat as Wairarapa would be without Phil.  For the locals, it makes good football to watch.  At the end of the day, its up to the players where they play, and for how much.  Wouldnt hear too many complaints if most of the clubs had selection issues like we do.  Lets just get on with the football and stop complaining about who plays for who and for how much!

In regards to hogster's comment, we have already done a flying trip to taranaki.  if only every club had the luxury of good sponsors!

All I was saying is that I've seen the same thing tried and failed. I'm not slagging anyone off, I'm just interested to see how it goes. If Rapa don't win trophy's (good on them if they do btw), I think the money could dry up pretty quickly.

FYI. My grandfather, since immigrating from Holland, has spent his whole life in Wairarapa and played National league (or the equivalent) for them for a long period. He use to go down and watch all the Rapa games - due to his health, not so often any more. My father grew up there and also played for Wairarapa at the top level. Point being is my family has a strong link to football there and we'd all like to see them do well. So good luck for the rest of the season, I will be following the club's results.

Yes it would be great, more than a few decent pitches, players travelling in comfort, rather than jammed into vans so the driving hours laws do not add excess cost to the travel budget. Only problem is the return on the sponsors investment is zero. Grass routes rugby on sky will raise the profile of 3rd tear teams and offer the clubs sponsor an incentive to invest more.

Which is exactly why you can't really complain about Phil Keinzley burning his own money up doing what he loves doing.

He doesn't get anything back for it, and it's his cash.

If it wasn't for Keinzely football in the Wairarapa would just be local league rubbish. And don't anybody say, "What about developing good local players". Players improve playing with better players.

good to see the attitudes of some slightly changing towards what people do with their money.  Again, we dont spend council money on the grounds, its privately owned.  we dont spent pokie money on this team, as its mostly phils own money and because he is a very successful businessman, he chooses to use it this way.  Our principal sponsor is trust house, which generate millions of dollars for local sport and other events, by owning 98% of the pubs in the region, including the Rimutaka tavern.   So who plays for Wairarapa is not the point, it about getting a good level of football for the Region to watch and support.  anyway all the best for all teams this weekend, and if the Wai boys get up over Miramar on saturady, it may turn into a tasty game at the DFF on monday!

Wests far too good for rovers. Probably the best Ive seen any team play this season. Jarrod Smith shown a yellow for a challenge, then swore at the ref and was off for an early shower.
Permalink Permalink

Ref never had control of the game. For all those who watched, please let me know how you rated his performance. Its games like these where the assessors should do their buisness. Not the Miramar Olympic rivalry games, where they throw in a 'noob'.

Intense 90 minutes. Very entertaining. Good to see a strong contingent of Petone supporters.

We enjoyed majority of possession even with 10 men, and if it wasn't for some great saves by Jewel, we could of walked away with all 3. Mind you Petone had some good chances to go ahead as well, hitting the crossbar and drawing wide a couple close rangers.
