why do you feel the need to hold your balls for more than 6 seconds anyway? bobboltontawa22008-06-17 10:06:47

The ball is dead at a goal kick or a free-kick, it's not when the keeper has it in his hands.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Fair enough Jag.  6 seconds is not along time to get up off the ground and assess the options you have to distribute the ball.

I agree. I've never given a free-kick against a keeper for taking longer than 6 seconds. I've booked a few for dicking around at goal kicks tho'

And i'm sure you have warned GK for taking excessive amounts of time to release the ball (i know i have been warned).  And after that i bet all GK released it quicker.  therfore IMHO there is no need a rule to limit to 6 seconds.  Time wasting is commen sense and is covered under other rules.

Yeah but as the ball is in play when the keeper has it in his hands there has to be something in place, i.e. a time limit on releasing the ball, to allow a referee to warn him that he's wasting time because it's a different case to an outfield player wasting time by taking the ball to the corner flag, for example.

He's wasting time but, as the ball's in play, there's nowt the ref can do about it and the ball is still contestable at the corner flag so the game can continue.

They've just tried to close a loophole because the difference is that when the keepers got the ball in his mitts, an opposition player can't get it off him to keep the game going.

If you follow me.

Follow you perfectly Jag.  BEfore they introduced the unlimited steps a goalkeeper could take when in possession of the ball was there a time limit?  I pretty sure there wasn't.  Surey back then a GK wasn't allowed to hold until the ball forever.

I guess what i am suggesting is that the 6 second rule isn't officated properly because 6 seconds isn't enough time.  ANyway we should probably move this discussion to the Aww ref thread.

Wasn't the old rule just a limit on how many steps a keeper could take? I guess they figured even a keeper would get bored standing in the same spot....

This tread seems to have gone a bit quite, some of the teams doing well early starting to have results go the wrong way and the teams that were struggling now starting to get results. The big game this week Tawa v Wairarapa could go either way, pick Miramar over KC, Waterside over LH, UH over Wests and Marist to take points off IB. Marist play a good style of football, surprized by their position on the table.

ill go for
-tawa over wairarapa
-kc will score 8 against miramar on recent form
- wk will beat lower hutt
-upper hutt and wests will draw.
- island bay will continue form and beat marist, marist may play good football but wont be good enough for island bay.

"-kc will score 8 against miramar on recent form"

"are you having a laugh?" (gervais - extras)

that is an absurd prediction, i will respond with an equally absurd one of my own.
big mulvey up front will score 9 to beat kapiti 9-8. A high scoring affair i know.

kcu have scored what 14 goals in 3 games??

26 for the season? miramar has scored 15.
in saying that they have conceded 23 and 21 respectivly.

kcu will win this one.

BBT2, Upper Hutt & Wests to draw is also a bit of stretch.  Their last meeting was 5-1 Upper Hutt away.  I realise Suburbs have gained players since but so has Upper Hutt.

what are you saying that your suprised by where marist are. They were terrible against the mar last week, only the pitch was a leveller.. and a 36 y/o scored a double...what does that say??

as for kcu putting 8 past the mar.....you're dreaming!!!

See, told ya a draw was a bit of a stretch
Upper Hutt 5, Western Suburbs 1 AGAIN
We should have won the first against Tawa, and did the second.  Too often we have not done ourselves justice, again we did against a team that plays too good a style of football to be where they are..

thats a bit harsh on us i think, we pegged a goal back with 10 men for 30 mins and could have gotten an equaliser late too.

IBU 1 - 1 Marist, i quote their coach in saying we played better and deserved to win the match....which includes us missing a penalty and a number of 1st half chances

IBU man of the match (playing his 2nd straight match of the day) DKP congrats, good effort

wulfstream....infairness against the mar you werent what i say terrible, but they did play you off the park and you must admit deserved the three points. yes you were chasing the game and we were trying to hold you off but you didnt create a lot...

on another point....as for the mar kapiti...i thought the game was a good one, the mar dominated the first 25 to 30 mins and at half time were unlucky not to be more than one up.

second half different story, the mar created few oppurtunities, but kcu were lucky to score when they did and after that could of score three more. having said the mar chased the game and could have scored also....deserved three points

True.  Make sure you picked downhill towards the car park in the first half though.

I can just imagine after the game: "any of you lads fancy coming back to the clubrooms for a quick?"

Maybe Wharfies could come to an agreement with the Sandbar to be their temporary clubrooms?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

to be fair id rather capital football and the council change the games to these places weeks before than on match day or infact cancelling the game altogether.

Its a bit of a joke when you have players out there trying to get rid of the water before the game - least at adventure they are certain to get a game and the crowsnest pub is just across the road so there shouldn't be any problems with liqour after the game.

Fair enough Kaori Park is a joke, but least now they have got it through their heads its out for the season so tell people there not playing on there from the start.

hilarious game at kilbirnie park Wharfies vs Marist... both coaches ejected after shaun gill wanted to discuss comments made from the marist coach directley to the wharfies players, something along the lines off "you dirty fu#%*n animal" after a dubious tackle.... The drunk marist supporters then attempt to take over from ejected coach and proceed to give the absolutely average lino arseholes for the rest of the game to go along with the abuse they were dishing out to the few wharfies supporters in attendance.... then Marist keeper gets a straight red after a bizzare incident where Mal the wharfies midfielder looks to attempt to swat an overhit cross with his hands, keeper flips out and is given his marching orders, promptly told not to worry about it from the wharfies bench as he'l have two weeks to cool off..... With five minutes to play and wharfies down 3-2 Karori fail to get a shot on goal where a very nervous looking replacement keeper was waiting....  Hill and Mal the scorers for wharfies, probably a fair result with marist winning as wharfies didn't show up in the second half after leading 2-1 at the break luggsy062008-06-28 17:36:09

yeah fair account. Bit if a battle on the pitch. Really stupid with the argument though between two old friends. The drinking supporters trying to bait everyone was a bit much. The lino on that side has won my worst ref of the year for the past few years. Keeper got sent for swearing. The woman reffing was a bit out of her league, but she  was fair to both teams so well done to that lass.

I don't reckon I was swearing....though I've heard differing accounts from what I've said from a number of people.

I certainly flipped out about it called him a "dirty lil cheat", there was a lot of fire in the game.

Pitch conditions didnt help make it a pretty match

Hahaha Jono, I can not imagine you flipping out enough to warrant a straight red.

Tough game between Island Bay United and Kapiti Coast United today. Both teams left their shooting and passing boots at home, got a bit niggly in the second half, Kapiti's striker getting a straight red for bobsledding me with the ball in my hands. Think the ref might have lost control somewhat. Kapiti's number 7 definately looked the goods, Kapiti's keeper also had a very good game. 2-0 to the Bay after some perseverance finally paying off in both halves. Sets up a huge match next week at Wakefield against Wairarapa.

lol, tirade is certainly the best way to describe it....though i certainly think i should have waited till the ball was out before launching into it (as my team mates let me know)

The fill in keeper (who I thought you were going to beat after that goal kick) reckoned I used the s* word too, I thought it was him mis-hearing cheat. I thought it was more likely, if i used either of them,  for me to use the f* one.... oh well, it's not like the cards going to get changed, i'll be watching next week either way

You definitely used the S word. But still thought it was very harsh, there was swearing everywhere.

The game got very niggly towards the end.
