Wairarapa United soccer coach Phil Keinzley knows he is going to sound like a broken record over the next few weeks.

For although his side have now taken a clear lead in the Capital premier division competition Keinzley believes all the participating teams there are capable of causing an upset, and therefore nothing can be taken for granted.

"There are no easy games, none at all," Keinzley said. "A couple of bad results and you could be history, that's the way it is."

A good argument could be made, in fact, for Wairarapa United being labelled as underdogs going into their game against Upper Hutt City at the Pugh Sports Bowl in Masterton on Sunday.

The last two meetings between these sides have seen Upper Hutt prevail 4-2 and 2-1 and their recent form has been sound enough for them to travel to Masterton with thoughts of a hat-trick very much on their minds.

Keinzley sees Upper Hutt City as a well-rounded team, dangerous on the attack and solid on defence, and not afraid to play the physical card as well.

"They are certainly not the sort of team who will ever give up without a decent fight, they have plenty to offer in all respects," he said.

Keinzley said Sunday's game had the makings of being a repeat of last weekend's fixture against Waterside-Karori with boggy conditions down the middle of the field meaning the teams would have to focus on attacking down both flanks.

He was pleased with the way Wairarapa United coped with that situation then in their 5-2 victory, especially the composure they showed after Waterside-Karori levelled up at 2-2 early in the second half after trailing by 2-0 at the break.

"I'm not saying there weren't any signs of panic but at least we managed to get back on track quickly enough to score three more goals," Keinzley said. "In days gone by we might have given it away so that was encouraging."

Spearheading the Wairarapa United charge were Miriek Tvaroh and Waisake Sabutu with both players probably having their best games of the season. The stoutness of their defence and their ability to link well with their front runners on attack played a huge part in their team's success.

Also impressive last weekend was the urgency of star forward Seule Soromon whenever the chance arose to test the effectiveness of the Waterside-Karori defence and Wairarapa United will again be keen to put him and the equally talented attacker Pita Rabo in space on a regular basis.

Missing from Sunday's line-up for Wairarapa United will be Guiseppe Cagliari who has headed overseas for the next three weeks and his impact from the reserve bench will be missed.

It does, however, give a couple of promising players from the club's seconds team, which plays in the Capital third division series, in Kota Maeno and Thomas Hemi the chance to join the reserves and Keinzley is confident they will do a good job for him if required.

"Having a competitive seconds team has been very valuable for us, it means we can promote players from there without having to worry about them coping at the higher level," he said.

The Wairarapa United seconds for their part continue their third division programme with a match against Kapiti Coast at Raumati tomorrow while also continuing are matches in the Wairarapa local league.

The division one draw there sees leaders Carterton Wanderers up against third placed Sports Arena Douglas Villa, Featherston playing McAuleys Masterton and Wairarapa College at home to the other serious contender for the division one title, Trevs Sports Masterton. They had an important 4-2 win over Sports Arena Douglas Villa last weekend in a match which apparently saw seven players yellow carded.

The main game in division two tomorrow will be leaders Douglas Villa Magpies up against third placed Douglas Villa Offsiders while Masterton Presidents will meet Carterton Casuals and Carterton Skulls will play Evergreens.

Wairarapa United turned on an outstanding exhibition of wet-weather soccer in beating Upper Hutt City 2-0 at the Pugh Sports Bowl, Masterton yesterday, and thereby extending their lead in the Capital premier division competition.

Their 10 wins and one draw from 14 matches gives them a total of 31pts while second placed Island Bay United have 27pts from 15 matches and third placed Tawa 26pts from 13 matches.

Island Bay United and Tawa actually played their second round fixture on Saturday with the 2-2 draw being the perfect result for Wairarapa United, providing, of course, that they beat Upper Hutt City the following day.

The result of that match was no foregone conclusion with Upper Hutt City having won their previous two clashes but on this occasion Wairarapa United were clearly the better side and were good value for their two goal victory.

The persistent rain which fell throughout the match and the boggy ground conditions, particularly in the cricket pitch area, might well have been expected to provide a boring spectacle of kick and chase but that was anything but the case with both sides still managing to get a fair measure of fluency into their attacking play.

Wairarapa United always looked the more likely of the two to score in the first half because of the speed and flair of players like Seule Soromon, Pita Rabo and Paul Gregory and it was the latter who opened the scoring with a well-taken header early in proceedings.

That was to be the only goal of that spell but it was by no means the only time the defensive units of both teams were tested with two or three near misses coming at both ends of the field.

Goalkeeper Matt Borren pulled off a couple of fine saves for Wairarapa United who also benefited from the solidity under pressure of James Oxtoby, Carl Shailer, Waisake Sabutu and Andy Robertson. The second half was very much a repeat of the first with Wairarapa United looking the more potent attacking force but Upper Hutt City quick enough on the counter attack to ensure the home team could never take victory for granted.

The disallowing of a Pita Rabo goal when he was somewhat dubiously one might say ruled to be in an offside position was a frustration for Wairarapa United but that disappointment was quickly forgotten just minutes later when Anton Ross broke clear and provided the space and time for Rabo to place the ball in the back of the net. Wairarapa United 2, Upper Hutt City 0.

That goal put the onus fairly and squarely on Upper Hutt City to up the tempo but they battled to make progress through the midfield due to the assertive defence of Wairarapa United's Miriek Tvaroh and Sakeo Valevou, both of whom adopted a "take no prisoners"" approach in both their tackling and their determination to win 50-50 ball.

Other premier division games saw Western Suburbs upset Kapiti Coast United 3-2 and Miramar Rangers beat Waterside-Karori 3-2.

Ok have people read that fiji times article?  That's some fairly huge accusations.  One thing I don't understand is how can one player throw a game?  There are ten others on the field, this isn't tennis.

Soccer stars in the deep

THE long arm of the law has caught up with two former Fiji soccer reps based in New Zealand. One faces deportation and the other imprisonment if found guilty of a serious criminal offence.

Petero Dauniseka is alleged to have been involved in match fixing, while Laisiasa Vosailagi, is facing rape charges.

The two previously played for Wairarapa United Club in Wellington but are now with the Island Bay soccer side.

Wairarapa coach Phil Keinzley in an interview with Times Sport, said Dauniseka threw a match away.

He also confirmed Vosailagi would appear again in court on rape charges he allegedly committed last December.

"Petero has left the club. He is already an illegal overstayer now, who the authorities are trying to find where he is living," Keinzley said.

"He was suppose to leave the country over one month ago. Due to that, he was not able to reapply to come to NZ for five years, due to his breach of passport conditions, but now he will not ever be able to go to any western country even as a Fijian representitive."

He said they had reported the matter.

"By NZ Immigration laws, I have to inform them of any changes," he said.

"For example a club transfer to Island Bay or else financial responsibility remains with our club.

"On top of this, to keep our record clean, as we are one of only few clubs who have a good record with NZI, which enables us to keep on bringing players from overseas."

Vosailagi, who was charged last December, could be sent to prison or deported.

"He has made at least three court appearances," Keinzley said.

"He will be going to the High Court in Wellington in either August or September depending on time allocation."

Keinzley said the actions of the two had painted a negative image of players from Fiji.

"This will make it hard on new players to be brought into any sport from Fiji into New Zealand," Keinzley said.

Efforts to get comments from Dauniseka failed, as he did not answer his mobile.

Island Bay spokesman Paul Muollo said he was not aware of the allegations.

The New Zealand High Commission has refrained commenting on the issue, adding they did not comment on individual cases.

Oceania Football Confederation media officer Steven Holloway said he had not heard anything about the incidents.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Fiji Football Association chief executive Bob Kumar.

Well I think that's a bit harsh.  If there is story there and you are contacted about it I don't see why he shouldn't comment if the allegations are true.  What do you mean selling himself to the press, he wouldn't have been paid for this interview.

One of their players does a horrible, despicable thing. And it's the clubs problem.
Maybe if it was a political party or something, but this is just footy. You can't control what your players do

The club did actually know about the allegations when they signed him.

Can you elaborate ono your "doing it out of spite" call Granville? All he did was present the facts to a journo who may have approached him.
The Bay knew they would be opening a can of worms from day one.

Hopefully they will be deported before we play them on Sat

Judging by Keinzley's behavior during our match against Wairarapa and his behavior towards our Club President afterwards, he has had something against the club for a while it would seem.

Do you know for certain if they are facts?
