Haha! N-Bomb...... a Waitakere hater. Yes!!!!!!!! Hope you get your ticket to the final early. Apparently some of those Melville players have signed for WaiBopFlop. Good luck, you guys are going to need it. Even Aaron Scott wasn't that great. Thought Tim Myers was player of the day. As for Rory T.... set up Roy's second goal by taking it on the chest and playing a perfect through ball to him. Turner's shot on goal was going in anyway so deserved  the pen and didn't do too bad for someone that was out last week with injury (wen waitak lost by the way) and wasn't expected to play. Wonder what happened to all the great youngsters at Wellington Olympic, Didn't expect that result!

I don't hate Waitakere, I just would prefer a club with a few more fans to win it ,also it'd be nice for a non-Auckland club to do so. It also sounds like you didn't watch too many Melville games this season Hawk....

Myers was fairly strong at the back, he gets derided when playing for the likes of NZA but he's a class above at this level, much like Krishna, without him they would have lacked their biggest advantage they had over Melville, and would have found it much harder going against the strong-but-slow Melville defence. Butler was strong too I thought.

So who did you think did well for Melville and who of them signed for WaiBopFlop?

Permalink Permalink

The players who have signed from Melville so far are only Aaron Scott and Scott Hilliar. Everyone knows that Aaron Scott is excellent at ASB Premiership level, and is a great signing, and Hilliar has been excellent for them all year, a real workhorse in a defensive midfield role who also is a tidy passer and has developed a pretty decent shot on him too. He did a fairly good job at stopping Shah in the midfield today, but it wasn't his best performance by a long way. Doesn't mean he's not worth the signing though.

Double header at ASB ya reckon?
Yep for sure, only real option now regardless of the other women's semi final result.

Well if Glenfield win then there are two Auckland teams in the final, and the organisers do enjoy hosting it at North Harbour Stadium....

Would rather it be in Chch though, they're deserving and also something new.

Both finals have been in Auckland so many times, that's why I reckon it's not an option.

They won't pay to fly all the gear to CHR

Wellington Olympic coach Mick Waitt acknowledged "the better team won'' the semifinal, although he felt the pitch conditions did not suit his side's style of play and he felt referee Mirko Benischke was too lenient at times on a "very physical'' Tech team

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Yes, Krisha was the difference for Waitakere, but Rory Turner is a good player.

Jama Boss had a poor game for Melville and that cost them. Hilliar was not at his peak but his work rate was very high. I think he will do well over the summer. Krishna's second goal was real class. Mind you Melville's goal was pretty good too.

Must say it was the biggest crowd for a football match I can recall seeing in Hamilton for years. Gower Park is a nice ground for matches like this, good atmosphere.

Boss was played out of position, I think Steve Williams might have regretted not playing him in the offensive midfield role rather than the wing, Josh Billman didn't provide too much.

Agree it was a good crowd, usually there's very few people down the end of the ground away from the clubhouse, but yesterday there were hundreds of them, good crowd for a good event.

Gear would be cheap compared to all the NZ Footy staffers that would come south, needed or not.

Agree with above. As a neutral, having driven down from Auckland, it was a bloody good occasion even if by the second half a slightly one-sided game. Busy bar, enthusiastic support, compact enclosed ground ringed with maybe 1000 locals ... about as good as one can hope for these days at this level out in the sticks. Hope WaiBop get similar support in the ASB. Maybe even better if they do well. Enjoyed your program notes too, Bruce.

NB From the Melville v Waitakerie cup semi-final programme, B Holloway quoting a past Meville coach (Paul Nixon): "We just need the X factor to start winning. Unfortunately I don't know what the X factor is."

Cheers Bruce. Hopefully we won't be hearing similar from any (e.g two) prominent coaches in the upcoming season.

He looked kind of uncertain & overwhelmed to me - maybe by the occasion/expectation as much as by the close-pressing opposition. Shame.

This from the NZ Football website today:

"Meanwhile, Cashmere’s victory combined with Coastal Spirit’s win across town in the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup raised the possibility of Christchurch hosting Cup finals day. The other Women’s finalist will be North Shore’s Glenfield Rovers or Hamilton’s Claudelands Rovers.

New Zealand Football are investigating the financial, logistical and broadcast implications of a move away from Auckland with a decision likely early next week."

Do what's best for football, play them in ChCh.

I agree with you. I think you would get more of a crowd for the CHR game. They don't host it often and would be a good PR move for NZF and showing faith in a post earthquake CHR

Canterbury play Otago in the ITM Cup on Sat 14th Sept. So if they wanted to play at the temporary stadium, Sky TV could still have the cameras for games on the Sunday.

I thought I saw it as the 14th of Sept but now I see on NZF it's down as the 15th. Any idea which is right?

Aaaah, on different dates, now I see, how strange. Why didn't they just say 14th/15th September considering they have had a penchant for double headers in the past and couldn't be sure of who would qualify until this weekend anyway?
