Well there we go, I was right. Never stressed its importance at all, in fact I used it as a positive when comparing Birko's calm manner on the field compared to several other top Northern League sides.

Moving on to more important matters, Waitakere become the most fearsome Northern League side left, but are no means too tough an opponent, think Sports could give them a run tomorrow, they've been sneakily good this season and are pretty consistent, they're underdogs but it should be a good encounter.

It will all depend how the 2 Rs go tomorrow(11 goals between them in 6 games) If the Roy and Rory partnership perform like they did last week Waitak will win. To be fair Jake Butler and Rory Turner were on top of their game last week and Roy Krishna's finishing was superb

Dark horse has to be Cashmere Tech, they look to be largely full of Canterbury United guys, playing together almost year round would have them in great shape, plus there's some very handy players on their books. Interesting to see how they go against Palmy tomorrow.

Do you know some names in the Cashmere team N-Bomb? Will be interesting semis

I didn't know that N-Bomb. Interesting

Er, Dark Horse has to be Melville after that performance today. Great game to watch.

Bit of a shit farewell for Bill too.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah, I was surprised he got subbed actually, such a good player.

Re: Cashmere Tech, they were only formed in 2012 so that's partly why nobody knows much about them, but they are the best Mainland squad and possess the likes of Tom Schwarz, Dan Ede, Dan Terris, Andy Barton, Stu Kelly etc, so they're not to be taken lightly. I guess we'll see how good they really are this afternoon.

They are the best Mainland side.. although the league is that close this year that just two weeks ago four teams were separated at the top by just one point.

Final score

Palmerston North Marist 0 Cashmere 1

At Half time Waitakere City 2 Onehunga Sports 0

Looks like we're getting Melville, Cashmere, Waitakere and Cavvy in the semis. Waitakere take favouritism but any of these teams have enough talent to win it, a pretty diverse final four - and if Cavvy hold on, a rare non-Central last four.

08 last time there was no Central team in the semis. Also the last time a NFF side won it. Stars aligning for Waitak...

Three for me, and two for them.

If Caversham continue on their usual trend, they will be eliminated in the semis before the team who beats them goes onto lose in the final. As I type, Olympic score, so maybe Olympic are keen on losing in the final. Not over yet.

Yeah I was going to put rough odds on it, saying something like:
Waitakere $1.65
Welly Olympic $2.70
Cashmere $5.10
Melville $6.90
Of course, every team can win it, but going by probabilities, there is a clear two teams ahead of the pack.

Pretty fair N-Bomb. Would hike Melville up if they're drawn away. Same for Cashmere if they are away to either Waitak or Olympic.

Three for me, and two for them.

Olympic must be the comeback kings of the world.

Waitakere are a 3 horse team really and I'm not so sure they deserve the favouritism they appear to be getting. Outside of Butler, Krishna and Myers, the rest are really ordinary and that includes the 7-0 result they had today.

My money is on Olympic

They are also very capable of throwing it the other way - they blew a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 against miramar a few weeks ago..

Fuck this stupid game

Pretty strong horses though JV. They make a massive difference when all playing together and on form.

Three for me, and two for them.

For those who followed the Olympic/Caversham match on Twitter today. Dale Warburton's 'twitomentary' was first class.

Now, whoever was tweeting at Olympic, have a look at Dale's tweets. That's how to do it.

Anyone remember Alf Stamp? He was a star wasn't he?

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Trouble with Alf, (he was good) was that he would only be magic for perhaps 10 mins or so.

Was at the PNM vs Cashmere game today, Cashmere were a class above.  PNM looked  out of their depth in terms of attack, didnt offer anything of substance up front, spent most the game on defence. if Cashmere had taken their opportunites it could of been 4 or 5 nil.

god you are such a dick JV. Everyone is bagging you and I didn't want too coz I felt sorry for you but Waitak were so superior to OS today it was embaressing. Rory Turner was the best player and at after match speeches they said Rory was obviously best but they wanted to give it to defender Redwood. BrianTurner was heard to say Rory Turner was outstanding and WC deserved their win but you  know best JV aye........ not ASB level. This is his 3rd season..... I don't think he will be here for a 4th!

Not questioning how superior Waitakere were over Sports because it's quite obvious they were. They are a team of 3 players and that's it but after that..... I think Cashmere and Olympic are better sides.

Peter Martin said very little in the speeches and no one was talking about Rory. Krishna was easily the best player on the park and by some distance and since no one is bagging me, you're obviously his mum or something. Perhaps you should have been watching the game rather than the warriors on the TV? Best you jog on as you don't know what you are talking about.

Respectfully disagree re: Cashmere, they have a nice core but when you have a player like Roy Krishna on your team, as well as the likes of Butler, as Buffon says, it's some pretty nice horses. And since Waitak have receieved all these guys back, they've been rolling, I doubt Cashmere could crush Birko and Sports. (By the way, where is De Vries playing? Remember him being on Waitak in the past? EDIT: the VPL, now I know)

I watched a lot of Turner on Waikato - he's not as good a player as his record suggests, which is what some people are basing their opinion on, but in my opinion he's definitely Northern League level. A lot worse frontmen get trotted out on a weekly basis in the first div than Turner. ASBP level - very arguable. Definitely not Waitakere United or Auckland City level, he'll do fine for WaiBOP and the likes though.

I agree with what you are saying N-Bomb. Krishna looks like a goal scoring monster at this level with defenders that are substandard. Shane Pascoe was left high and dry by his team mates today and I genuinely felt sorry for him. Sports are a confidence side and once they get behind, they are toast so I do believe Sports is not a good yardstick.

What you say about Turner is true. At this level, he is fine, but then I think there more than a few players that have ASBP caps that have no business being anywhere near that level, chief among them is Nathan Cooksley with nearly 100 and Robbie Deeley with a few too. A good example is when Roger Wilkinson had ACFC for 5 rounds and bought up Stu Watene and Sam Wilkinson. Yeah they looked ok in a Waikato team but that's because there was no one else. Put them in a real football side and they were stand out awful.

You are an NBA man, look at Chris Gatling and his record. When there was no one else, yeah he got his points and boards. That 96 Dallas side were utter pants and he was near all star level because there was no one else. Didn't mean he was any good and the rest of his career showed that.

Edit: Actually I think he was an all star that year, his only season he did so

Hahaha love the comparison, I'll keep the other potential comparisons to myself as otherwise we'll just get off-topic, but yes, big fish, small pond. If he was my striker on a NRFL team, I'd be pretty happy, and he'd be able to bundle home maybe 9, 10 goals a season for you while looking pretty good too. If you are relying on him in the ASB Prem to get you goals, you aren't finishing any higher than sixth.
