Entries closed 4th April.
Preliminary Round is 26-28 April.

Assume draw will be next week?

I didn't realise Nix were able to enter this year (albeit with only amateur players)

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.

If anyone cares for my inane babbling follow @iluvnix17 on the Twitter.

Will we get a few matches each round on Fifa+ like the league or not do we know?

I've commented in past years that NZF has not get their numbers right and some teams have had unnecessary byes in round 1 when there should simply be a different number of preliminary games.

I think this year they have it right in Round 1. It is a bit tough on the 9 Canterbury/Nelson National League sides not getting a bye in round 1.  The alternative of having the 10 Southern League sides getting a bye to round 2 like their Northern and Central counterparts would require an extra preliminary round to trim the 27 non National League South Island entrants down to 6.

(although with 128 teams entered, they could have had no byes at all but that would have left the prospect of some mismatches)

Christchurch United through to the next round with a 5-2 win over Western AFC.

United had plenty of chances in the 1st half but hit almost every shot straight at the keeper - it was 1-0 at half time

Pretty embarrassing considering their reserve squad beat Western AFC the week before 4-0

Yeah true, and not even just a regular reserve squad but it was their u20 academy squad. I'm sure they are happy to be through to the next round but won't be happy with the performance

Central United 3-1 Northland FC at Kiwitea Street today.

Leaders of NRF League One hosting leaders of the NRFL Conference North it always had the potential of being a good game.
Central United took the lead in the first 10 minutes with Alfie Luque scoring the solitary goal of the first half.
Earlyish in the second half Central doubled their lead a dubious penalty dispatched by captain Ben Ruffell.
Northland pulled one back in the last minute of normal time through Luke Paramore before Sam Bader put the game to bed for Central in the 6th minute of second half stoppage time.
A deserved win for Central and I kind of want to see a Kiwitea Street Derby with Auckland City in the next round.

5-8 (a.e.t 5-5 at fulltime) Papakura City v Cambridge, not a scoreline you see every day.  If only NZ football had a Chatham Cup "scorigami" in their databases to see if it had occurred before.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Coastal Spirit 3 vs Cashmere Technical 1

I didn't expect Cashmere Tech to be knocked out so early but well done to Coastal Spirit getting it done. These two battled out a 4-4 draw in the Southern League in mid April so Tech obviously have problems dealing with Coastal's attack

Auckland City 5-0 over Metro at Kiwitea Street this afternoon.

Still holding his registration for another couple of weeks before he goes to Auckland FC they made good use of Cam Howieson today with a good brace an early penalty and second half strike in to the bottom corner.

Gerard Garriga was the second on the scoresheet a beautiful cross from Stipe Ukich and a decent finish.

Ryan De Vries scored ACFC's 4th there was a bit of a foul missed by the referee in the lead up to the goal that probably should have seen it disallowed but it wasn't seen.

Deep in stoppage time Angus Kilkolly scored with a volley to round things out.

Suburbs made use of Francis De Vries still being around (and Michael Woud still doing his thing as goalkeeper coach) too. De Vries scored the winner this afternoon against East Coast Bays from a nice free kick from the right side of the top of the box. Over the wall and low into the near post.

Outside of the usual Suburbs guys watching (Toomey, Kalua, Adam Thomas, Tyler Lissette etc) Fin Conchie and Tyler Bindon were both down watching the game too (though not together).

Thought Suburbs were missing a few.
Not a bad cup tie but Suburbs marginally the better.
Great free kick but if you were asked to identify the A League player on the pitch not sure you would automatically pick De Vries.Very ordinary players around him. Niko Boxall came on as sub late in the second half.
Wintersgill reasonably well behaved on the touchline although I was on the opposite side of the pich.

Central United 5-0 Beachlands Maraetai

A thoroughly dominant display from Central against a team from a higher division. Sam Lloyd got the scoring going in the fourth minute before an Alfie Luque screamer in the 13th minute before second half goals to Ethan Kucija a second for Luque and a screamer from Dillon Lazarus in the dying stages.

Beachlands didn't offer much and Lev Prokofyev in the Central goal had very little to do today.

Hibiscus Coast (4) v Taupo (0) at a wet and windy Stanmore Bay this afternoon.
Coast deserved winners but the margin was a bit unkind to Taupo. If they were a bit sharper up front then the margin might have been less and a couple of Coast goals had an element of luck about them.
Heard over the PA that Trent Mayes scored his 100th first team goal this afternoon. Good effort by a player that maybe could have gone a bit further (injuries had a part there)
Pretty sure that Coast have never been in the last 16 before ?Be nice if they got a home draw

NZ Football conduct the draw and Home team plays the Away Team.

Hard to tell if the next round if 'fully open' within the South Island as in two of the previous six draws - 2017 and 2018, Mainland team were draws against Southern teams.

In 2021 NZ football put out a graphic, I did a google search and found one on Friends of Football article https://www.friendsoffootballnz.com/2021/05/14/waikato-neutrals-torn-between-two-juicy-northern-league-fixtures/ which shows in 2021, the 4 teams from the South Island are in one bowl, 4 central teams in another bowl, and 8 northern teams are in another bowl for this found.
