Is there a list of teams with byes anywhere?.  Every year I think they don't get the number of games in the preliminary correct and you end up with one or two teams getting a bye in round 1 because they don't have the right number of preliminary games.  This year, Central and South look correct, North looks like too many preliminary games.  Working on the premise that Northern, Central, Southern league sides get a bye to round 2 (except in Canterbury/Nelson)

Nelson Suburbs will be in the Nelson/Marlborough Region I believe. Normally last side remaining from there gets a spot in the combined Southern Region.

Correct. Last year FC Nelson came through that section, beating Suburbs 2-1 in the last round before the draw opened up - before going down 3-1 to Ferrymead Bays.

According to the Western Rangers club facebook page.

FC Western have defaulted their preliminary round chatham cup match against Western Rangers.

So Rangers win 3-0 and advance to the first round proper.

Surprising that FC Western would default. I appreciate it’s likely one of the biggest away trips of the preliminary round, but they would have been very firm favourites to progress.

Palmerston Nth United 4-2 win over Taradale @Taradale Park

Great win considering Taradale beat them 4-1 in the league on Friday. Not to mention Taradale were 2-0 up after about 30 minutes and were absolutely cruising.

2nd working day after a Chatham Cup weekend sees the draw made for the next round.  No articles on the NZF Website but an article in Friends of Football https://www.friendsoffootballnz.com/2025/04/29/draw-made-for-first-round-of-2025-chatham-cup/

As per every year, more unnecessary byes in Round 1 because they played the wrong number of games in the Preliminary Round.
4 teams in NRF Championship getting a bye
Central/Champ side correct
Unnecessary byes / Preliminary games in Mainland/South

Central/Capital Ties for Round 1.

Some good match ups between CL2 and Cap Prem sides. I think it will be a good test to see where the two leagues stand. With predictable results for the first two games listed below.

Palmerston Nth United v Western Rangers

Stop Out v Naenae

Wellington Marist v Tawa.

Seatoun v Wainuiomata.

Douglas Villa v Victoria Uni

No byes this round, fingers crossed for a few National League drawn together to give some of the little guys a cup run.

Are there any dark horses within different regions?

For the Capital region, it was great to see Marist and VIC Uni knock over CL2 teams.

I can't find the draws for today's Chatham Cup anywhere, prelims and round one are on NZF and Mainland Football but can't see round 2 anywhere.

Any ideas?

I’m up in Auckland over the long weekend and seeing there is no A-League grand final to watch 😂 can recommend an Auckland-based Chatham Cup fixture to attend?

ECB vs Springs is the only all northern league clash in Auckland, but AFC reserves vs Melville could be another good game to watch

I'm not familiar with Auckland clubs but have look here for anything nearby. Central United vs Birkenhead could be worth checking out, potentially see a cupset

What’s are the possible cupsets around the regions?

For me in the Capital/Central region:

Vic Uni (Cap Prem) to beat Palmy United (CL2)

I don’t see it happening but would love to see Marist scare Miramar

Mosgiel (SPL) might be able to upset the Royals (NSL). Coming in with some momentum on their side and just beat the Royals reserve team 6-0

Not a chance.

Three for me, and two for them.
