Not a Napier fan in the slightest (from HB), but it would be amazing to have a final at McLean Park.

Watched the Magpies there on the weekend and the atmosphere was great. Do some decent marketing and get a few thousand to the game and it would be brilliant.

Plus it would be nice to bring some money into the regions rather than travelling supporters always propping up the Auckland economy.

Interestingly CakeTin, McLean Park (Napier), Trafalgar Park (Nelson), One NZ Stadium (Chrisrchurch) don't have NPC fixtures on finals weekend, the only one that does is North Harbour on the Sunday.




 
I think having the Cup finals at Te Kaha is a great idea if indeed both Cashmere Tech teams win their semis. That and provided NZF can negotiate a reasonable stadium hire fee.

Useful prep for Stadium staff getting the venue football (soccer) ready with AWs game there in November.

If it was to be a NCR v Nelson Chatham Cup final (unlikely) you could go Newtown Park, as sort of mid point to both Regional cities.

Sounds like the National League final at Newtown Park last year was a big success.

as per the publicly available regulations they will get something back.



19.1 In all rounds up to and including the Semi-Finals, the home team shall meet all match expenses and retain the full gate receipts, less the match fee payable to NZF as follows:
Preliminary Round to Round 2: Nil
Round 3: $250.00 + GST (16 home teams)
Round 4: $500.00 + GST (8 home teams)

19.3 The match fee payable by each home drawn team from Round 3 to Semi-Finals (inclusive) will
be used for travel subsidy payments to away drawn teams in accordance with 19.6.

19.4 In the final match all gate receipts shall be retained by NZF who shall be responsible for all reasonable expenses related to the final, including travel costs of participating teams.

19.5 The match officials appointed by the NZF Referee’s Appointments Panel for the QuarterFinals, Semi-Finals, and Final shall have travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed within budgets approved by NZF. Such travel and accommodation shall be arranged in conjunction with the NZF Referee’s Appointments Panel.

19.6 NZF will, subject to available finance, pay a subsidy to teams required to travel more than 300 kms (return) to play in matches from Round 4 onwards. The travel distance will be calculated as the distance between the home venues of each club. All subsidy claims must be lodged with NZF no later than 10 Working Days following the match in which the expense was incurred.

NZF do cover a portion of that, but it is derived from entry fees. When my club (Wellington United) traveled to Auckland for the Kate Sheppard Cup semi-final against Eastern Suburbs, our cost was circa $10k, NZF gave us $1k!

With two Auckland teams facing two Chch teams it could go either way, let’s hope NZF make the right choice! (NHS is never the right choice.)

I didn’t catch today’s semi but the match timeline says Napier’s goalscorer Cooke received a red card after FT - anyone know what that’s about?

Think I've said this before what an immense year it has been for Cashmere. Between their men and women the only loss was in the English Cup. Besides that they've gone unbeaten in literally everything, they're going to be interesting to watch in the NL phase and in these GF

With the increase in profile of the game in recent years and the Chatham Cup being our glamour trophy, surely when it gets to the Semis we can find some where better than these village green type parks and with NZ Football now not having the cash flow problems of the past, they can provide full funding for the travelling teams in the semis.

A New Zealand Football spokesperson told The Star Christchurch was in the running to host the finals.


“One NZ Stadium is among several venue options being looked at. Should there be no Christchurch representation in either of the cup finals, it’s unlikely the Kate Sheppard and Chatham Cup final would be held in Christchurch.

“NZF aims to have a decision made by August 17.” 

Sounds like we will know the host today!

Well, it's a new stadium so I guess people are going to rock up to because of the novelty. I recall the Wellington Stadium when they opened it, they got about 15k to watch an AFL game where most did not anything about the game and about 6k to watch a provincal game of cricket. 

A few years later the crowds deminished  and  last Thursday Wellington v North Harbour Rugby would be lucky if they had 500 there.

The provincial cricket was the first match at the Stadium on 3rd January 2000 - the Shell Cup match Wellington vs Northern Districts with an attendance of 7,160. The novelty factor was in play since later that year in December when Wellington played Canterbury the attendance was only 1,200. In January 2007 Wellington v Auckland attracted only 450 but the lowest ever official sports crowd at the Stadium came a few days later when Naenae played Easts in a club cricket final in front of 50 fans per the stadium trust annual accounts.

In 2017 NZC scheduled a Plunket Shield match at the Stadium to trial the pink ball - the aggregate attendance for the match against Otago was 220 for the four days but my count was that the maximum attendance at any one time over the four days was 27 people and yet I saw stewards ask someone to move seats !

The AFL match was on 29th January 2000 Hawthorn Hawks vs Western Bulldogs and the attendance was 11,666. The highest AFL attendance was in 2013 when St Kilda vs Sydney Swans attracted 22,183.

The lowest NPC crowd at the Stadium (excluding the covid restricted matches) up to 2024 season was 1,228 for Wellington Lions v Counties Manukau in 2019. The official numbers for this season won't be published until September next year but new lows are expected.

Kudos to NZF to listening to what non Auckland football fans wanted.

Gives the stadium operators a chance to trial changing all the markings, posts etc from rugby to football.

New Zealand Football general manager of competitions and international events Lisa Jones said taking the finals back to Christchurch after more than 10 years was a major step for the region.

New Zealand Football chief executive Andrew Pragnell said it was fantastic to have both knockout cup deciders as the maiden football matches at the stadium.

Pragnell added that South Island representation in both deciders comes during a significant period for football in the south, noting the All Whites are scheduled to play India at One NZ Stadium on November 15, alongside ongoing efforts to secure a third A-League team for the South Island.

The Kate Sheppard Cup final kicks off at 1pm on September 5, followed by the Chatham Cup final at 4pm.

It is no fault of any of the players involved in such an awesome occasion, but it needs to be flagged that "Fencibles" is not a good name for a positive community institution.

Cashmere are going in as pretty heavy favourites against Fencibles (Can't find the odds for the women) and I would have to agree. Would be absolutely insane if Cashmere did a double and won both cups on the same day

First 2 football matches in the new stadium! Where will football active fans go from now on? Being mostly 3 sides with space to add seats at one end, now people can think about it. I imagine it would look good on a long side.

Man, have a rare saturday afternoon off work. Thought I'd make the mission to head into Christchurch to see what football is like at the new stadium. Really cool there's so many people out and about in various football tops. A real atmosphere aboht the stadium precinct. Hope we are in for a treat of a fixture!

And it's all the result of Cashmere breaking through the midfield lines and getting those dangerous guys on the ball. Coughlan, Taguchi, Matthysen all finally able to show what they can do.
