Last year the prelim draws were the 9th of April with the first games being the 25th to 27th of April. So I guess it might be the 8th Of April for us? (Next Wednesday) Nothing actually confirmed though as far as I am aware

Nothin, just been refreshing the Chatham Cup page periodically. I'm thinking end of this week, or end of next week at the latest

Have a lot of Cap/Central teams not bothered entering this year? That's a a significant drop in Prelim Round matches from 2025 (11).

The bitter, cynical NZ Football follower in me wonders suspects NZF's fax machine hasn't been cleared over Easter/school holidays.

I was thinking the same! How much do we think the cost of fuel has effected decisions on smaller teams to entre the Chatham Cup? Emptying your pockets trying to rent vans to drive across the lower north island to get bopped 14 zip by Wests doesn't sound as attractive this year tbh.
I have horrible opinions

If that's the case then I feel like more South Island teams should've pulled out since they should have the most travel out of anyone.

Edit: Actually this does seem to be the case because there's no Dunedin or Southland teams listed. Bummer

Still nothing on the NZF website.

Central Football livestream their local/federation cup draws. At least there appears to be some form of transparency

South Island sides stay pretty regionalised, so aside from the ones in Southern region (South Canterbury, Otago & Southland) most don't have to travel that far (although numbers are still down). Dunedin sides will probably turn up next round, although I wouldn't be surprised if there are less Invercargill sides and none from Timaru

Does anyone know if there is a complete list of teams entered?

Looks like about the same as last year, they have to get down to 32 teams by the end of the Round 2.

2025 edition had 122 teams, while news item from NZF says there will be over 120 teams this time. However there was 28 preliminary round fixtures last year (11 Northern, 10 Central and 7 Southern) while only 17 this year (10 Northern, 4 Central and 3 Southern)

Quick question but where are Rangers AFC on the pyramid? Their wiki says mainland premiership league but I can say with certainty that's false. Can't seem to find them anywhere

Nelson Bays Premiership (Blenheim Rangers AFC). Normally one of the top teams in the comp, but won't contest promotion.

I believe they're the only Marlborough side with a team outside the Marlborough league.

Worth noting since it sometimes gets confused too - this is the same tier of the game as the Mainland Prem and Southern Premiership. Top sides are eligible for promotion to the Southern League. So yes, Rangers are on the same tier level as the Mainland Prem just different league.

As someone pointed out in a different thread, if they've got a similar number of entrants to last year, maybe fewer Prelim round games means no/fewer byes in Round 1.

Is Te Kotahitanga allowed to enter. Thought because they were a regional team, only the feeder teams could enter?

Ah ok so we weren't mistaken the central fed is indeed missing a lot of teams this year (14), very interesting.

Yes and no; there are the teams I noted playing at a level that really should be part of the Chatham Cup, but they have, on the whole, pretty consistently not entered in recent years, presumably because they see it as a waste of time and money on top of their already extensive travel, for what would be, barring a miracle run, similar matches to their leagues and to the Central Federation Cup.

Fed Cup games are also a lot easier as the majority of them are played in neutral venues half way between teams to save travel. A lof of the fixtures take place in Palmy of Napier depending on where the teams are.

Travel across the federation is already difficult enough as it is, so teams don't really see the opportunity to drive to Welly and get pumped as meaningful at all.

Maybe neutral venues for the Prelim and Round 1 could be something for NZ Football to look into?

Yes they aren't a regional team, they are a club in their own right. The clubs that feed into them still have their identity but only play tier 2 level. Bit like Palmerston North United in Manawatu
