Don't know anything about the comments, winding up or psychological digs or such, but I felt there were some niggly tackles going in from both sides, as for Jamie protecting Marist - nah.
When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!
it's a pity though cause if we managed to slot another one in, who knows what would've happened.
Oh well let's concentrate on the league.
By the way, well played matty. Wish I could say the same about myself!!
VUW AFC - Victoria University Football for life
can't wait for our match tomorrow, should be an excellent match and I know that if we play well we are really going to test olympic!
Fair point-thats why I asked for others opinions :p, Was that the whole game? Because when I was on the bench I don't remember anyone cheering when we committed fouls, but cheered when we were awarded fouls, simple logic yeah?
yeah sh*t happens, your thoughts on the whole elbow/spitting incident???Ahh true true, still don't remember haha yeah no worries, no one apart from those on the field seemed to see it!
Yeah, to be honest I didnt expect it of a mens team but hey u take it how it comes! True, they did get in our heads towards the end. When we went down 3-2 people turned on each other a bit but it's all learning for us. Next year will be the best team in a while. Cheers Plowright?

Check the 'worst grounds in Wellington' thread it's one of the favourites for the title.

I played in this game as well, for Marist, and having read the rather long match report I must say that I disagree on a number of fronts.
I did not see the spitting or elbowing incident...whilst elbowing does happen in football, at all levels, there is every possibility that these things happen accidentally, or through some poor technique going up for the ball. The spitting accusation I am shocked by, I did not hear anything about that during or after the game and I find it hard to believe.
The comment that Wellington Coll were by far the better team also surprises me, hence I give my thoughts on how the game went. I agree that Coll came out very strongly in the first 20 mins, and got the 1st goal (a long ball played by the keeper over the defence and well finished by the striker).
However they seemed to lose concentration immediately and conceeded a goal basically from the kick off. The rest of the half was reasonably even.
The second half had barely begun when the referee awarded college a penalty. Being the keeper I was pretty close to the incident and, with the ball going out for a corner, 2 players running back clipped each other (both looking at the ball) and a penalty was awarded. The penalty was missed, but the ref awarded it to be retaken for encroachment, and the retake was scored for 2-1.
Marist then continued to dominate the 2nd half (I would also question the comment about the fitness of the respective teams), having made one save in the first half, I had nothing else to do except pick up a few long balls in the 2nd. After a number of fouls around the Coll box (marist players would not agree they were being "protected").....eventually marist scored the equaliser, and though the coll keeper made some good saves including a 1 on 1, marist eventually got winner. A final shot from Coll went just over the bar late.
Coll played well, but I wouldnt assert that they were the better side, but Marist had far more chances, and just because they scored the equaliser and winner in the last 15, doesnt mean Coll deserved to win the match, in my opinion.
The marist coach is certainly firey, everyone knows that, but there was a lot of negative shouting from both supporters/benches...that is football...Equally, a coll player could have been sent from the field early in the game for swearing at the referee (as a Marist player was last week) but these things happen.
Anyways, I normally don't feel strongly enough to go into really long posts...but I, obviously, strongly disagreed with some of the comments made (and maybe I am being 1-eyed also, we do always look at our team first)....
I also thank those people who have commented in support for the way marist plays and their character...

Was that when the score was 3-2? I had thought it was a cross at first so had to back pedal pretty fast when it looked like it was beginning to drop in....the amount of ribbing i get from my team about being chipped (e.g. like the first goal) I would never have lived it down... it was a good effort, just clipped the top of the bar with my hand underneath the bar.
The one I was most impressed with though was the volley from, I believe, one of your strikers...fortunately it was shot from far enough away that I could make it across and palm it wide, but it was certainly great technique.
Gamesmenship is common on the field but surely is not appropriate when playing against a school team. There has been other theads about the youngsters playing for Stop Out and the common theme is you play your normal physical game against them but nothing more, no reason or point in trying to trash talk and play mind games. We want these guys to do well as they will be the strength of our league and possibly our own teams in the years to come. Well, maybe not Marist after this weekend.

Am very curious to hear the continued scoreline in this game...!! (though not curious enough to go all the way out there, lol)
A master class in flicks from Raf, poor shot selection from bubbles stops late scoreline blow out
Naenae keeper plays for time, visibly knackered from work out
Salmon swim upstream
lol pretty rough call there, considering we've only let in 6 this season....

And that guy was ?
I suspect you might have stolen some of Park Life's thunder with that tribute LF1.
Later in the week accordidng to NZ Soccer, they recently put this up

AUCKLAND Christchurch Division 1 side Cashmere Wanderers were the giant killers of the 81st Chatham Cups first round on Saturday, upsetting four-time winners Western 3-1 in the pick of weekend action.
When Westerns Sam Miles cancelled out Lucas Kavkas first half opener in the 65th minute, things looked to be back on track for the Mainland Premier side, but Alistair Melville restored Cashmeres lead five minutes later and Mark Wit made sure of the upset with Wanderers third goal in the dying minutes, as Western threw everyone including the keeper forward in search of a last gasp equaliser.
Joining Western and qualification-round-casualties Seatoun, as eliminated previous winners are Nelson United, two-times winners Manurewa and Christchurch United, although Western are the only side still playing in the top flight of their respective region.
The South Islands most successful Chatham Cup side with six wins, Christchurch United went down 1-3 to Ferrymead Bays, while Northern League first division side Manurewa lost 2-1 to Whangarei-based US1 Premiership side North Force, and 1976 winners Nelson United were beaten 2-0 in a Cup derby by Mainland Premier League leaders Nelson Suburbs.
Meanwhile, Aucklands Mount Albert Grammar will fly a lone flag for schoolboy football in the second round over Queens Birthday weekend thanks to a stunning 6-0 Sunday stroll over Northern League first division side Western Springs.
Also in Auckland, former All White Mark Elrick scored twice for New Zealand Celtic Supporters in a 4-2 win over Otorohanga as the Sunday leaguers put their name into the hat for the second round draw, where they will be joined by current holder Central United (pictured) along with the 11 other Northern League clubs and four Southern Premier League sides that received first round byes.
In Wellington, last years runners up Western Suburbs fired the weekends equal biggest win, demolishing Brooklyn-Northern United 9-1 to show their sights are firmly set on appearing in a third straight final in early September, while Central League strugglers Stop Out were made to work hard for their 1-0 win over near neighbours Eastbourne who currently sit four divisions below them.
The draw for the second round of the Chatham Cup will be made later this week.
