i agree that welly u should be given a bit more credit. they have defended well and put away the majority of there few chances in the games i have seen. however please dont take the fiji LH game into consideration as LH were dominating the 1st 25mins and were 1 nil up untill i left the field, rodney(our center back)went into goal and our center mid went into center back.thats when the 2 main fijians gained alot of there space.

good luck to welly u against fiji. they arnt that good if you close down rabo and pedro

Fiji bossed LH with 10 men.
Fiji have half a lot of very good players in that team - doing what you say will not win you the game im afraid

Just through from Barry Pickering, tournament director...

The kick off times for the finals are:

Division 2 - 1 pm
Island Bay United B v Wellington College

Division 1 - 4 pm
Wairarapa v Wellington United A

Please note that extra time applies in the finals, followed by penalty shoot out if required.

First team named is classed as the home team in the event of a clash of colours (Wgtn Coll need to change?)

We were conscious of avoiding a clash with TW v Otago but being a 3 pm kick off there was no easy way around it.

I'm wondering whether it would be worth driving down over the hill on Sunday to support our beloved green and red galacticos. Is the ground at Petone any good?

word on the street is that to entice supporters to turn up to the final, there will be a complementary cask of red wine on the sideline. 2ndBest2008-03-27 22:58:32

another load of codswallop from Park Life in the preview of the Davis Trading Hilton Petone Cup final. Quote 'On their way to the final they have calmly, if not always emphatically, dispatched Miramar Rangers and Petone and confidently seen off Island Bay and Stokes Valley. Oops no hang on that was a draw. Well, still, they've bashed their way through well enough and will rate themselves a chance against lower league opposition'. Of course we will fancy ourselves having also beaten a tidy Olympic side 3-0 in the semi, who I seem to remember accounted for a certain Wairarapa United side 4-2 (and that flattered the Wairarapa boys) in their group. A cold southery due tomorrow too, how wil the Fiji B guys like that? Make no mistake our guys are up for it and aren't overawed at all by reputations unlike whoever wrote that piece of rubbish.

This sort of thing always gets said when players from warmer climates play in cold conditions.  It's not as if players who aren't from Fiji love playing in a southerly.  Also, I remember playing Wairarapa in a howling southerly last year and one of their Fijians scored a screamer from about 30 yards.  He looked fairly well acclimatised to me.

Wellington United will, justifiably, feel they were hard done by.  The penalty that gave Fiji their equaliser was well won by the Wairarapa striker but could easily have gone either way.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I thought it was a fair result, we were doing too much defending in our final third to get away with a win. Lots of if buts though but their fitness was the key. That guy up front kept running at the same blinding speed all game and we were tired. Wairarapa are a good side but there are weaknesses - the defence is very slow to turn and we found it easy to get behind them down the flanks using one-twos, and if you can stay close to their strikers (no easy feat) they cough up the pill easily enough. Thaqnks to Petone, another superbly organised tournament.
