From the Wellington Olympic Website:

Olympic simply too strong for Stopout
2008-03-13

The Quarter Finals of the 54th Hilton Petone Cup tournament were completed last night with Wellington Olympic victors 4-1 over Stopout. The game kicked off with Olympic applying high pressure and creating chances early on. The midfield trio of Simon George, Johnny Gerondis and Jimmy Haidakis were the heart of these chances being created. John Gerondis was simply carving the midfield putting lone striker Mickey Malivuk through on goal twice in the first ten minutes, but unfortunaly for Olympic Mickey was unable to captialise.

Olympics early misses proved costly as John Mackay opened the scoring for Stopout with a sweet strike around the twenty minute mark. Minutes later the boys in blue were down to ten men as Jamie OConnor was sent for retaliating after a vigorous challenge. The high pressure being piled on by Olympic increased after the sending off and Simon George leveled the scoring mid way through the first half. Minutes before the break John Gerondis cheekily put Olympic ahead as he was able to lob keeper Sam Baker after Stopout were unable to clear their lines, which resulted in Olympic going into the break 2-1 up.

The second half started basically the same way as the first, with Olympic dominating and creating chances. This time Olympic were the team to score first as Mickey Malivuks hard work up front eventually paid off as he slotted home a third for the greeks.

It seemed like karma played a roll as Stopout were reduced to ten men after yet another rash challenge during the match. The last twenty minutes fatigue kicked into Stopouts play and Olympic proved to be much fitter and stronger as they were able to create a fourth, Jimmy Haidakis coolly rounded keeper Sam Baker scoring the fourth and final goal for Olympic as they cruised into the semi finals with a tie against there Newtown Park buddies Wellington United.

Other Quarter Final Results:

Waterside Karori 5 - Stokes Valley 1

Lower Hutt City 2 - Wairarapa United 4

Wellington United 2 - Miramar Rangers 1

Semi - Final Fixtures:
Olympic v United & Karori v Wairarapa both games on sunday 5pm kick off

We used to have stacks of the lads on here, but they disappeared not long after the Phoenix season started.  They are at matches, just not usually in the Fever Zone.

yeah understand that, but not everyone can seat in the fever zone! john serepisos former chairman of olympic now IT dude for the nix etc also 1st cousins with terry sold season tickets to all the greeks young and old relatives etc in  aisle 30, so they all sat there! Next year we will ask john if he can get an aisle for all the greeks closer to yellow fever zone!  Then we can all chant togthr because dont forget we are supporting the same side!

for those of you who missed the private messages.

i am dissapointed that you took it that way. you obvisly dont know who i am so i understand that. i used to play for the greeks, call many of the 1st teamers/elder club men my friends and generaly call them all wogs, dirty greeks, villagers or insult their mothers in some way shape or form.

so im sorry if you took it like that. my main dig is that the greek community is a good one but a selfish one. they should join together and support YF and specificly the NIX withclose to if not the same passion in which they support olympic

ps sorry greenie, i will refrain from the "W" word

who cares not like anyone likes olympic apart from themselves
Permalink Permalink

yes i think you are selfish!would you like some tissues. the bubbles only look after their 1st team and not anyother team. the 2nds might be going alright atm but i doubt that will last long!

who knows? if your so confident why dont you make a prediction about where da bubbles 1st and 2nd teams will end up this year, then maybe we could have a bet???

at the moment both teams should be aiming to do better than last season! both 1sts n 2nds finished thrid in their leagues last season i personally believe they can do better this time round! time will tell! i will also like to say that their 3rd team won capital three last season and they will do well in capital two this season, believe me! looks like most teams at olympic are doing fine atm... so radioman stop spinning s**t!

also isnt the topic of this forum 'hilton petone'? get back on track boys n GIRLS!

Nick, shhh the walls are papaer thin.haha (personal joke)

i think this is all rubbish y is every1 having a dig at the greek supporters not going in2 the fever zone? personally i love the fever zone but wudnt want 2 be in it..i like watching the game chillin out with the older greek guys and all my greek boys ...and we hava chant here and there..

fever zone isnt for every1 u know..

and regarding olympics 1st and 2nd team...the 2nd team is well looked after by our chairman, hes at every game on the bench i think its just difficult running a 2nd team where people are pulled in and out every week, its hard 2 get a good team structure...

and on our website it shud actuali mention more bout the 2nd team for doing so well but ofcoarse  what goes on the website is only realli 1 persons view and thats the guy who writes the post..

so "tawa"  wake up and lay off buddy coz u know u wana be at a club like olympic, miramar or wests...not our fault u got stuck with tawa? im guessing.

Wairarapa -its just like playing Fiji

Dont want to talk them up - but they are the fav's for Prem, and will be interesting to see the score in the final.

I think I'll just erase the game from memory, but though it was a good performance by Jamie with the whistle (and yes he did book me News so no jokes)

I feel a letter to Winston coming on..

Wairarapa were a class above.....but Greenie I thought you played well and Wharfies looked good in patches....

In watching both semi's I'd have to say Wairarapa look stronger than Wgtn United.  Be a great game though.  Geez those Fijian boys play a hard uncompromising game and seem to have that bit of extra time on the ball - great to watch.
