Not usually John, but sometimes, that ok? I get RS feeds that alert me to new posts, you? Or does Fred text you?

No, my opinions are my opinions. I would have thought you would know that Wayne.

I do PT, just firing back at Broonie :) And Vim text me to let me know there was another flare up on the forum, always good for a laugh, brightens up the day.

What Vim was told I have no reason to doubt and got rather annoyed that it was classified as hearsay and gossip from some of our girls when he spoke directly with the player himself. Whilst you and Broonie may not have been aware of the situation is there no possibility someone else from your club may have instigated this conversation? Happens at our club from time to time.

I actually agree with the concept of reimbursing players for the time and effort they put into the game at the top level but as an administrator am very aware of the pitfalls of that approach when you start committing resources that could be better spent in other areas of club operations, hence our policy of paying coaches, not players. Clubs are always struggling for resources, whether that be gear, facilities or volunteers time but it is hard to balance rewarding players financially (and that includes boots, petrol vouchers, return airfares to Aus etc.) at any level when that comes at the cost of reduced subs, better facilities etc. Look at the impact Bays approach is having on their junior programmes and numbers. A few years back they had the opportunity of employing an excellent guy in Jose Matiz to run their junior development but chose instead to pay Kamo, Highfield et al. Where is the benefit to the club or the game in that? It will be interesting to see if they can recover from last years disappointments under Danny.

THAT IS DIFFERENT IF SHE TOLD HIM. I READ SHE TOLD THE TEAM, DID NOT REALISE HE WAS PART OF THE TEAM.

THOUGHT HE PLAYED SUNDAY (CHEAP) FOOTBALL. THOUGHT HE HEARD IT FROM SOMEONE IN THE TEAM. HEARSAY YOU SEE.HOW WRONG CAN ONE BE.

ANYWAY IT WAS NOT OUR WOMEN'S COACH. IT WAS NOT ME AND IT WAS NOT BROONIE SO AWAY YOU GO ATTACK FERRYMEAD INSTEAD.

BY THE WAY THEY DID NOT SPEND ANYTHING ON PLAYERS WHEN THEY WON THE THE LEAGUE WHEN I COACHED.

AND FOR THE RICHEST CLUB IN THE CITY YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE TROUBLE SPENDING MONEY.

KEEP SMILING BIG MAN.

Nothing personal in any of that, just trying to provide some balance and points for discussion as always just like yourself.
Interesting point about being the richest club in town, quite an anomaly when you consider we work in the poorest area. No trouble spending the money I can assure you, more of an issue earning it to feed the machine. Interesting and rewarding work, wish I had more time for it tbh, there is so much more to be done, keep up the good work at your end and we'll catch up in due course.

Just thought that with the Eric Adams money and insurance from Bexley we would have heard about a mega development in the East.

As per the Yaldhurst Rd. development. Certainly a real need for some quality facilities. Anything on the horizon or are you all tied up with EQC / Insurance squabbles?

Eric Adam was sold and put into a trust, we can't touch it (to prevent us from squandering it on players would you believe!), Bexley tied up in CCC/insurance wrangle, they seem to hold all the power when you're reliant on volunteers. Never ending dramarama on top of what you get to deal with at home and business, I fully understand why people walk away from all of this. Three and a half years now and we are just starting to replace the floodlights we lost, let alone the gymnasium. Enjoy your time in the sun, you never know what's around the corner. Only bonus is I get to rent a flat to Vim while he gets kicked out of his house for repairs :)

Sounds very frustrating, Surely there is enough involved to get the professionals on to it though, and get onto the trustees from Rangers. There has got to be some interest available. At least you can charge Vim plenty.

The frustrating part is the time it takes over and above the ordinary responsibilities within the club on a day to day basis. insurance companies seem to have become specialists in creating barriers. We have had specialist advice and as is not unusual would need to test it in court  with no guaranteed outcome - not really satisfactory for the members at this stage.  The trustees of EA park are very supportive, they have burnt some capital over the past few years while we got sorted as to where we would live long term. Some are even willing to spend the capital on players! Obviously they don't hold sway or you would have seen us go toe to toe with Bays, a dubious situation imo.

Regarding the recent debate over player payments I think all clubs are free to spend their income as they see fit under the rules and it is not for a few to tell the rest what is and isn't ok. We don't because we have a philosophy of doing what we think is in the best interests of the game, when that changes (and it is a constant item of debate don't you worry - your thoughts have added some fuel to the argument) you may see a different approach from the club.

Where this argument has gone a bit pear shaped is the perception that what is said on here should be taken seriously and is not merely someone's biased opinion, mine, yours et al included. While it is a conduit for opinions and information, by it's very nature a forum should never be taken at all seriously. The use of avatars and ridiculous user names is a fair indication that this is indeed a fantasy world. One of the reasons I follow (and post) is I find it informative and entertaining at the same time, but take nothing as gospel. I intend neither to offend nor intimidate although I'm pretty sure if I reread all of my posts I would be horrified at some of what I have published (barring the Spam United days of course :). It is also an opportunity for people to vent anonymously (or bait those who desire to do so - guilty!) sometimes with little regard to the outcome or who is affected - I think so long as we all realise we are passionate supporters of the game and pay due respect to that (and the forum rules) we will be fine, all for the better of the game.

Who are the picks for the season in the guys and girls MPL?

Obviously Coastal and Cashmere in the girls but will Varsity step up this year?

In the guys CTech will be hard to beat but Western, Nelson and Bays should give them a run for their money in a much tighter league than last year with Coastal and Halswell a step above Varsity and Nomads with one of those two facing relegation.

Games this weekend -

Bays v Nomads (Bays win)

Western v Coastal (Draw)

CTech v Halswell (Draw)

Nelson v Varsity (Nelson big win)

Won't be the Nads.

so who are you picking then Scottie?

Western v Coastal (Western win)

CTech v Halswell (CT Win)

Varsity my pick to go down, but haven't seen any pre season of them so will be better informed come Sunday avo.

Nomads will be without two of the regular better performers for a few [more than 6] weeks.

Could this be the big problem for Hutchie as the season gets going.

Looks like Tulett  Park main pitch change of position by 90 degrees for this season.

Funny story. I actually gave those two chaps directions to the Palms Mall a few weeks ago, before the great flood. They aint tourists! They are working in the city on the rebuild. Had the van fully decked out to sleep in etc, orange vests and hard hats galore.

Is that staying that way? I'm sure they will switch it back before season as it's only put that way, and the second pitch added in for Canterbury Utd over the summer. They did the same last year! Which 2 players are missing? Haven't seen the Shilito brothers down the couple of times I've been down there

Coastal and cashmere each enetered 2 PDL teams, plus selwyn, uni, western, fc20 and Parklands (don't know where they got those players from); so PDL womens have a bye.

Why would that be an issue? All competitive girls/women on saturday. Social on Sundays.

Seems strange for Coastal to have 2 teams in there, thought it might be because they all want to play on a Saturday rather than change to a Sunday because of the perception Sunday is solely for social? Odd for one club to have 2 teams in there and cause a buy surely?

Real shame for Halswell...

I'm sure that may mean their Div 1 & 2 teams maybe a bit stronger..... Although with the Div 1 fixtures out there seems to be a few teams missing..... I'm assuming one of the Halswell teams and Coastal have dropped down to Div 2, Selwyn Black seem to have stepped up (and they should after last year), but I seem to remember there being something like 10 teams in Div 1 last year.

Will be interesting to see what changes there are to Div 2 when those fixtures are released

Reasonable numbers in their junior grades though although can't see any specific girls teams listed on their website.
