I'm going to go watch the relegation battle next week seeing as there's no Coastal game.

But who do I cheer for?

What on earth can you say about Nelson Suburbs ..9-0?? Jeez. How is that the same team that beat Cashmere Technical 1-0 earlier in the season.

Most exciting game at ASB on Saturday was the Masters game between Mid Cant and Amberley...4-3 to Amberley but some cracking goals...great to hang around after the Western rout to watch it

A good weekend for Western. Reserve team won final at ASB Park today 1 nil over Nomads.

Nomads reserves having same problem as their first team can't convert chances in to goals.

If Uni beat Nomads next week, then Nomads will be relegated.

True, but plenty of permutations if University do not win on Saturday, all three bottom sides could finish level on 16 points with Nomads having the the worst goal difference and goals scored which will not help their cause.

On Suburbs current form Halswell and Nomads would fancy their chances of picking up points against them so all eyes will be on Ilam Fields next Saturday.

Yes Suburbs worst result since the MPL started in 2002, with yesterdays 9 - 0 win also Western's best result in the league.

The biggest ever defeat in the MPL was in the opening season when Chrisrchurch Technicial defeated Woolston Working Men's Club (WWMC) 12 - 0, there was also a 11 - 1 result - New Brigton vs. WWMC and a 10 - 1 result - Ferrymead Bays vs. WWMC.

WWMC leaked 132 goals that season - only scored 7 in 22 games so had a staggering - 125 goal difference.

Well WWMC was a glorified Sunday League team that Ronnie managed to put on the park.

A bit more that a Sunday League side as played in the old National League.

Comparing them to a Sunday League side would be a compliment yes?

Nothing wrong with some Sunday League teams.

Nomads have only scored 9 goals all season, and their goal differential is only one worse than Nelson Suburbs (who have scored 30). Crazy.

Gotta feel sorry for the young lad in goal for Nelson.

Not really considering but read on.

Ron N put a lot of time, effort and his own money via Car Aid 66 to help that WWMC team into the national league.

Same goes for him getting the Woolston/Tech merger over the line along with Bill C.

Ron was a player [a hard nut at centre back as well] for many years in the Sunday League back in the days so just a bit of a back hander to him and the team he played with.

A good amount of National league players [some Ex NL others before playing NL] have put on a shirt or two in the SSL.

Situation Vacant: Waimakariri United Football Club Head Coach

  • The Club

Waimak United is based 20 minutes north of Christchurch and is in the process of building some of the best playing facilities in the Canterbury region. This includes a new artificial turf located at our Kendall Park grounds. We are 1200+ members strong, from Junior All Whites through to Senior and Masters Teams.

  • The Role

As Head Coach for our Men’s Div 1 team for the 2014/15 season, you will report directly to the Waimak Club board, and will be responsible for recruitment, selection, retention and coaching of the Waimakariri United team for the 2014/15 season. Additionally you will have a vested interest in assisting with the development of the Mainland Foundation Men’s PDL and U18A Squads.

  • The Person

You will be a positive focussed Head Coach who is enthusiastic, forward thinking and capable of communicating throughout all levels of the club with the full backing of the Waimak Board.

Previous coaching experience within elite academies and/or clubs is preferred. A NZF Senior Coaching qualification at level 1 is a minimum requirement, or an undertaking to complete this prior to the start of the season is essential. A good understanding of public relations and excellent interpersonal skills are essential in being able to establish and maintain productive and positive relationships, both internally and within the wider community.

  • The Goal

The club’s board have identified gaining promotion to The Mainland Premier League in 2016 as an important strategic goal for the club, along with helping establish a good support base of players within our PDL and 18A teams.

  • The Reward

The position does come with a remuneration package by negotiation, but the real reward is having the opportunity to help this growing club establish itself as a serious MPL contender.

Waimak have been very well behaved this year I reckon, nothing comes to mind after a shocking 2013.  Might make the job a little more attractive.
