Hey dont forget you guys actually pulled out a couple of years ago.OU have taken the responsible route to surviving and hopefully growing the franchise.The same offcasts were still good enough to beat you guys lasy year. Dont forget you were 2nd bottom/bottom for a couple of years. One good season dosent make a succesful franchise. It is important too have two franchises in the Sth Island and to be fair. CU have benefited in the Winter with the return of the OU players.

Was even last season Canterbury United won 3 - 1 at home with two late goals seeing Otago win 2 - 1 at Tahuna Park.

Never feed the trolls.

CU have been to the grand final twice, (yes we lost both, one on penalties tho!), been 3rd once, 4th four times, and last twice. Otago hasn't got higher than fifth. So not too bad is it?

I didnt say it was. I just think the fact that we will have 2 sides in the NZFC has got to be good for the Sth Island game. Outside the big 2 Auckland teams. All the other NZFC teams have struggled both on and off the park at some stage.All we need now is a decent Sth Island league. If we could get the 2 Federations to get it up and running. Then we will see the standard improve.It is sustainable and the only reason the Federations dont support it. Is the fact that say 10 teams at $40,000 is taking money away from their catchment area pot.

Where does the $40K come from? And why ten teams?
8 teams at $20k is much more sustainable. And it must be seen as an investment, not taking money away from your catchment. No relegation for first 4 years.

Think its fair to say that Canterbury have done better in the NZFC. Its a shame that its been at the expense of otago that canty have made the playoffs in the last two years. Would be good for the SI if either team could break the dominance of the big two. A SI league would be great to progress the top end of the game here but doubtful it would happen. Was told by a canty board member that very few teams in the mainland are keen due to the cost, it you look at a team who say would pay a player 350 a game and times it by roughly 18 (inc cup games) thats 6300 dollars. Add say about 10 goal at say about 50 a goal, thats about 500 dollars and 6800 all in. Lets say this team then payed at least two other players around the same, thats another 10 grand, so thats about 17 grand rounded up. Surely investing that in an SI league would be more beneficial  for this imaginary team who we'll call lets say 'hairy bead gays' then wasting it on a mainland league title. Especially if said team then turned around and said a SI league is unaffordable.
Dan Ede's a good goalscorer with pace but until he shows a bit of bollucks when the going gets tough theirs no way he'll be wearing a canty shirt under Braithwaite. Would be interesting if they picked a mainland select for the first few weeks of pre-season to see who could make the step up. Think he would make that squad and it would be up to him if he made the step up. Rightly or wrongly KB prefers players who he knows will give a 100% and he won't entertain lads who think they are better than what they are (not implying that this is D Ede). But knowing this, I would suggest to any potential CU wannabees this will be the best way to make his squad, work hard, show a good attitude and let your footy do the talking.  Anyway as you can guess hav'nt had me footy fix for a while, hopefully tech give bays a doing. Unfortunately on babysitting duty so won't be able to enjoy the balmy weather

Nomads v United on 13th August looks like a crucial game for both teams. Nomads still have (in order) Tech (h), Coastal (a), Utd (h) and Western (a) to go. Realistically need to win 2 of those and pick up a draw to survive while hoping that Utd do no better than a couple of draws out of Western (a), Bays (h), Nomads (a) and Halswell (h).

Momentum is vital at the end of the season with Nomads having it at the moment having picked up 9 points in the last four round with just one for United. Nomads have scored in all of those games with United only scoring in their first, with Nomads having kept a clean sheet in their last two games against Suburbs and Halswell, so if they keep going on like this then they may avoid the drop.

 
Long term I think Nomads have more to offer than United so I hope Nomads stay up.

Ferrymead Bays move closer to title
Ferrymead Bays marched closer to the Mainland Premier Football title with a 2-1 win over Woolston-Technical today.  

Their nearest rivals Nelson Suburbs also had a win, but with just four games to go, Bays� eight point lead looks likely to be enough.  

Mauricio de Oliveira continues to be unstoppable in front of goal and nabbed another double today for Bays.  

He scored on either side of halftime and his second half strike was the winner after Stu Bola scored for Woolston Tech from the penalty spot in the first half.  

Simon Gatward-Smith scored Nelson�s only goal in their 1-0 win over Christchurch United.  

Henry Flood scored for Nomads as they continue their late season run.

They beat Halswell 1-0 while Western beat Coastal Spirit 2-1.  

In the women�s competition, Western beat University 4-1 and Coastal Spirit beat Halswell 3-0. FC Twenty11 beat Woolston Tech by default.

I hope I'm not the only one that finds a top flight fixture in our city being defaulted as a total disgrace. Surely a club the size of Tech could've scrounged up 11-14 women to play the game?

Agree but there was a change to the fixtures. 
 
The women's PFL draw was altered a couple of weeks ago by Mainland which meant orginally Tech were not going to be playing as it was only going to be the National Women's KO Cup, so other factors may have been involved.
 
The KO Cup game was brought forward so Coastal would have three player's available that are away with the extended Under 17 World Cup squad at are now in camp.

Entirely agree:have seen Tech play this season and they always have a squad of 14-15 players:what the hell happened?Particularly disappointing as the Womens League is very tight at the top between Coastal and FC,and this has resulted in FC being handed three easy points,when a closely fought game was on the cards...poor.Hope they throw the book at them...

Even as a tech man think its very odd that tech could'nt field a team in the womens league. Have to expect some sort of punishment, shame because the team seems to have improved on last year.

Especially with no PDL games on yesterday due to school holidays. I can't believe 25 odd players have left the city for this weekend?

Caversham into semis 4 - 0 over Onehunga Sports with Dunedin Tech going out 5 - 4 on pens to Bay Olympic after 3 - 3 in extra time, 1 - 1 in normal, was snowing at time in Dunedin.

Harry Smits has the Nomads lads and more so the young players stepping up to the task of trying to keep them up.
I hear he will need a few more young ones for next week as several regulars are away, school holidays?
Dominic McGarr played his last game in the win over Nelson, he heads off to the USA in a couple of weeks.

From the Nomads v Halswell game on saturday I've heard from both spectators and players that Matt Smith of Halswell gave Stu Cox [the ref] a gob full of f... o..s and only got a yellow, that really gets respect for you as ref, by no one.
Give him a Red and lets all others know it wont be tolerated and what about Mainland Football getting tough on this sort of abuse Stu didn't help that either.

Which college is Dom of too? Maybe zero tolerence for abuse might help. Its a bit like holding in the box during corners/free kicks, if people were punished then eventually they would stop. Have given a few non-constructive comments to refs on many occassion so know I can't talk but its getting a bit ridiculous that more time spent hearing about spats with referees than the actual football.

This morning's Press sorta rubs the women's default debacle in a bit don't you think?

Mainland premier women's league leaders FC Twenty 11 continued their winning ways after Woolston Technical defaulted.

Not at MPL level. There should be no defaults ever surely? Lower grades I can understand but in the MPL's it's a joke. What would the sponsors think? Why would they bother putting money up for some jackass competition where teams decide where and when they'll turn up? This sets a very bad precedent. Surely Tech could have asked for a deferment? To much hinges on these games at this level such as goal difference etc to allow a default. Totally disrespectful to every other club in the competition and simply not acceptable. This seriously calls in Mainlands ability and commitment to run a fair and viable competition. It will be interesting to see if any further action is taken. I suspect not. Absolute farce. Word I heard was that they asked for a deferment and Mainland refused - on grounds Coastal women had been refused one earlier or something. Not sure of the details but it would be good if the facts came out before the bullsh*t & sh*t-kicking. Tech-people, what's the story?
