News this week about FIFA giving CHCH some money to distribute to worthy recipients. Link

Great news, but how bout this line from Coggan:

Coggan was "working on the assumption" that Mainland Football would be eligible to apply to the fund.

Uh oh.

Very !@#$ing uh oh. SURELY the FIFA intention is for this money to go to the CLUBS who have suffered earthquake damage? I didn't like the whole tone of Coggan's letter - posted on Mainland site.

Interesting to see the Richmond advert on the Mainland site today.

Not only for the fact they want to be the best in the region, but the improper use of the apostrophe.

Draft MPL draw released with the likes of Western, CHCH Utd and FC2011 playing all their home games at English Park.

Should make for an interesting season with Friday night games too.

Word out of Dunedin from the clubs down south is they would like to have a SI League. Mainland Football must fall into line with the dates that allow a split of top 4 from each federation playing H & A with the bottom 6 playing off in a home federation competition. This could be the second round of the season if available weeks are a problem.
So means a ten team MPL.
How hard does that seem to be or is it just BS from Mainland that the block is all Soccer Souths fault.
Not S, South by the comments from last wekends ASB aftermatch chat with club administartors down there.

Poolmaster I do not think the problem has ever been with the clubs playing down south but it has been with the trying to get Football South Federation doing what the clubs want.

I think the main issue is most club down south feel an eight team league would be in the greater interest of their league and then a South island League but the Fed do not want to make the hard call to reduce to eight teams - how to get to an eight team league is the issue. The standard at the botton with ten team is not that flash down south as history has shown when there were ten and twelve teams up here the bottom teams have been very poor.

There is  more football politics down south than up here, if some had their down in Dunedin there would still be and Otago Football Assn and therefore the Fed down there is not united.

An eight team x 2 rounds then the South Island make more sense when you take in the requirements of the Chatham Cup and then also allow for local cup as well.

I like the idea of the Southern League, as it equals more road trips. Administrators may not.

The other issue is promotion relegation. If you take the top four out of Mainland, that leaves the bottom four. Do they play each other twice and the bottom one is gone? What if you did real well against the big teams in the first half of the season only to fall to pieces when it's the relegation league? Tough sh*t perhaps?

John Brown coaching Woolston Technical, Joe Green taking over the reigns at Nelson Suburbs, looks like Harry McCosh will again be in charge at ChCh United, Western yet to appoint a coach, with the no change at Halswell, Ferrymead Bay, FC Twenty11 and Coastal Spirit.

Cheeko is this confirmed as when talking to some of the Western management on Sunday at English Park they said still on the hunt for a coach.

Which players are moving away and who is heading across town?

I believe Nomads have got a coach, from within the club,  but unsure if players have been told so I wait, maybe Poolmaster has the update.

I like the idea of Friday night games at English Park. Means a few after work drinks then football. Also means being able to see another game on the Satdy.

My only issue is the last round, which has 3 different kickoff times which needs to be changed as it could be a crucial match to see who gets relegated between Utd and FC2011.

Yeah confirmed coach for next year. I'll let Coastal announce their new signings but Blair Duncan and Ben Harris are both heading for an OE so wont play at all this season. Hopefully everyone else stays but there are still some rumours flying about

Nomads do have Andy Bull coaching the first team for next year he has been coach of the PDL/reserve team in previous years [7 in a row] and has at least a couple of wins and 2nd placings in that league. Bully has coached BHS 1st x1 for the last 2 seasons.
Yes the players all got to know within a day of the appointment and have had a Xmas BBQ at the clubrooms. Most of the boys are staying Burnsy, Snells, Batty, DT, Gavin Jeffs, Villa. JC is back and fit which he wasn't last year. we do have at least one youngster off to Otago.
Nomads are the omly club playing in the Div one comp that have put name in for promotion next season, only five teams in total but will get filled with the usual 3rd teams from other clubs.

All have a good Christmas and keep safe if travelling away, catch you in 2012.

Yer sounds like a few players are keen to join the mighty Coastal however nothing is signed as yet so it is early days and anything can happen. Don't really want to name names, but can confirm my 17 goals in the superior Sunday League didn't get me a phonecall.

Not in the MPL but. Nomads start on Thursday be interested to see who fronts, two that are starters for the season have been training hard through the holidays as they are in the Mainland ASB national futsal team plus Tom Batty with the Dragons.
Good to see these Futsal guys getting air time on Sky Sport although the commentator didn't know who was who even with numbered shirts.

Nothing wrong with Nomads updates mate, never stopped Richmond AFC dropping their 2 cents in, even though it got downgraded to 1 cent once it was too deemed too expensive to join the playoffs.

Speaking of that; I would like to see a 'cards on table' scenario this year, where the Div 1 teams who are intending on being promoted into the MPL put their hands up at the beginning of the season to say so. This would stop last years issue. Imagine if the CHCH team pulled out at the last minute and a team from the West Coast or Nelson got in by default. Not cool.

From what I have heard only Nomads have put that in writing [email or other form then] that they are intent on seeking promotion if winning Div 1.
So from that you can take it that none of the other non MPL clubs give a toss about playing at the top local level.

I knew Nomads would be keen. But what if someone like Parklands won it, and then decided they didn't want to go Premier League. Or Western's 3rd team won it? (They got 3rd last year!) Would a West Coast or Nelson team go in automatically?

I am sure the rules say only the League winners can enter the play-offs.

If only one team wanted to come up (and they have won their respective league) then one would assume it would be automatic promotion.

It was be interesting to see what happen for the 2013 season and the automatic relegation for the MPL was for three seasons only (2010 - Burnside, 2011, Nomads, 2012 ???) then to be reviewed.

I know you're speaking hypothetically...but does the west coast actually have a direct path to MPL? I've never seen any mention of them in the mainland football guidelines for it...

I often speak hypothetically, or pathetically.

I am sure I have heard before that they are able to enter the playoffs, and they are defo part of Mainland Football so it sorta makes sense??? Someone with more knowledge may step in.

On another note, has anyone heard official confirmation on whether the Canty School of Football is going ahead this year?

My mail is that CSOF will be training only. Players play for clubs. But I could be wrong... Or Mainland could change their mind...
