PDL rumour - can anyone confirm?
Mentioned it a while back - that FC20 were planning on fielding 2 PDL teams. Have now heard the same thing from another top flight club!
So what have we got? 1 or 2 PDL leagues? - A and B division? Or age restriction and non-age restriction? Does this replace 19th grade or DIV 1?

Anyone got the skinny?

The 8 Div 1 teams I have heard this year are: Nomads, Mid Canty, Selwyn, FC2011, Uni, Waimak, CashTech, Halswell. 3 ineligible teams to be promoted, but, it's a division!

So maybe the "2nd PDL" teams I've heard about are actually DIV 1 teams? Could be.Stretford End2012-03-20 12:25:00

I think the idea is that it is still an under 23 side however.

But what defines them not being the top team?.. because some players were missing? Well the same could be said for Suburbs ..who were without Gagame Feni, Erik Panzer, Mark Johnston and potentially Jordan Swaney and Mike White judging by this.

Unless the majority were 2nd div players then I see where you're coming from..

Heard the Burwood PDL team is almost all kids who were playing school 1st XI last season, should be a decent young team (good for a club which has been lacking in a top end team too)

ex- SBHS I think. Great to see them sticking together.

Interesting. I'd heard that SBHS had developed a "pathway relationship" with Cashmere (but maybe things have changed post merger).

I'm guessing Messi (who is new to this forum by the looks of it) thinks that by me saying Nelson Suburbs beating FC Nelson 9-0 implies that I'm saying it is FC Nelson's top team.. even though it did have a handful of their top players missing. Yes some may have been missing, but same with Nelson Suburbs who were without their five or six best players. Yes I called them FC Nelson, but they were representing FC Nelson. It's just a pre-season friendly agains two teams that will only meet in Chatham Cup...

What should have I called them? FC Nelson 2nd XI? Well I don't know what the 1st div guys would have thought if I called them that..Luis Garcia2012-03-21 15:04:12

ummmm, again somewhat wrong and the team that could meet them in the Chatham Cup will be a completly different team from the one that played this friendly game.

At the delegates meeting at the end of last season Mainland said that div 1 was going to be in line with all the other divisions from 2012 onwards so a club can have 2 or 3 teams in it if they think they are good enough, at least it gives it some consistency of having at least 8 teams after what it has been like the last few years, so not solely a promotion league anymore.

What will the starting XI be?

Will Sam Miller and Sean Parkes not be playing first div football then?

I think it's going to be interesting to see how Joe Green and Ben Wright go in their first real coaching gig especially seeing how they are clear favourites to win the league. Having Mike White back in Nelson would be a huge coup.

I heard plenty of teams were sniffing round him, but the fact that he is actually attending Nelson trainings shows something!

Might need to start up a FC Nelson thread similar to the Richmond one we had last year. How did that go for them again?

Will these guys be missing for the first game on saturday? Western have a few missing from an already small squad, could be a long day......

Anyway here is my prediction for the league:

Nelson
Tech
Bays
Halswell
Coastal
Western
Utd
FC

Hey Luis: What's with all the Nelson to Nelson Suburbs tranfers all over the transfers page? If we don't count the dodgy Nike Cup back and forth ones, there are still others that are just random. Coey? Thought he was overseas but still played for Suburbs last didn't he? And who exactly is Nelson?

Hmmm.... just trying to piece back last nights events... Turnbull scored two that weren't even tap-ins, Faichne got one I think, and can't remember the other. So yer, we were 4-0 up and a couple of late late goals didn't actually scare us but didn't really need to happen. Skippy got injured in the first half which didn't look too good.

That's as good of a match report I can muster!VimFuego2012-03-24 08:17:17

Something about wanting to coach kids. Paul Brydon is back as well.

Much of a crowd at Friday night footy?

Halswell 3 - Selwyn 1 from todays friendly, few injuries, bit of beef and few hand bags but a good game.
