Did anyone hear what messiah said on National radio? I missed it but got reassured it was brilliant from the smooth operator.

Well done Western for the 0-0 draw second half. Dont think Messiah would be happy with that.

If this was a tipping of the tipping competition you would do well.

Interesting early money in our picks game. If the last 3 can make their picks we can look and discuss.

Here's this week's Press article. Coastal finally get more than a paragraph, despite the first 4 referencing Cash Tech.

Bring on next weekend!

Do you not think they've earned that given their dominance over the last few seasons? Of course they're going to be referenced, they're the benchmark.

Yer I get that, more of the quantity of Press write-up each week.  Check out last week's for example.  Here

18 paragraphs on Tech vs Bays, every other game gets 1.

It's not a big deal, just an observation.

Coastal will get four lines next week...

You can ascertain what your opponent is afraid of by observing the means by which he attempts to frighten you

A couple of taking points for the big top of the table clash next Saturday between Cashmere Technical and Coastal Spirit:

- will the clash make history as the first ever MPL game to be referred by a female

- will Siggy get on the pitch

I don't think Hamish will appreciate your humour there AW82...

And in other news, in honour of the great Johnny Cash, I have rewritten one of his classics. Garrick Memorial Park Blues "I hear the train a comin', it's coming round the bend, and I ain't been this nervous, since maybe 2010..."

1) Who is the female? Obviously hasn't been refereeing in Chch before so where then?

2) Surely if ever there was an option of flying in an ex-professional ex-All White then this is it. Seems legit.

Maybe they could catch the same flight.

Understand ref is Anna-Marie Keighley is from Auckland, down here on an exchange this weekends, has reffed at the Women's World Cup.

Understand the now that Ryan Stanley has joined the Coastal Train, Tech are looking to redress the balance of 'gingers' at the club.

Pretty sure they had more than their fair share of rangas, we were only trying to even it out a little.  Clapham and Halligan are left, which is still two too many IMO.

Anna-Marie or Tech's record of 'gingers' in a starting 11.

Anyone else think it's a little weird (if it does happen) that a female ref from out of town could take charge of a massive top of the table clash?

Not trying to sound sexist (altho I probably am) however why test something on such a crucial match?

Thoughts?

Rumoured to be a massive PR spin - as long as she sticks to the script - and sends siggy!

Given she's been to a world cup is it a test or potentially an upgrade?

maybe a change of style? no egos, bias or bullshark due to local loyalties may make it a better experience for all (just playing devil's advocate here Vim - honestly have no fooking clue how good she'll be)

Yes all good points, just think it's weird timing that's all.

That would be hilarious if Siggy gets sent!

Selwyn played FC last season in our big game towards the end of it all. Had a ref come up from Dunedin for the game. He was a male, but was a brilliant ref. Best one we have struck in the last several seasons. Didn't know anyone or any pre-conceived ideas. Think it is a great idea.

Whether female or not won't make players change. They will still shout abuse at the referee. It's how she stands her ground or deals with it which will dictate how the players are. Just like any referee.

I'm picking a draw. Mind you looking at my picks this season, I'd probably even get that wrong.
