fever is right - it was an obsolute smashing.

Halstead is in line for golden boot for the rangers reserves, having only played 3 games

Couldn't believe the Miramar result at first  - almost choked when I was told!  Can anyone provide a match report?  Be interested to see how it went...

On another note, a good 4-0 win for Marist yesterday against Olympic to keep them top of the table...

I was watching.  It went something like this:

  • Halstead scored after a great ball by Brook Tozer to Burt Taylor, who squared it for a tap in (1-0)
  • Halstead scored again (2-0)
  • Scouser for Naenae scored good individual goal to make it 2-1
  • Burt Taylor scored (3-1)
  • Peck scored (4-1)
  • Half time
  • someone (probably Halstead again) scored (5-1)
  • some more people scored for Mirimar (6-1, 7-1, 8-1)
  • Naenae missed a penalty
  • Halstead scored some more (9-1, 10-1)

Goalscorers were Halstead (5), Peck, Taylor, Dicey, Kev Thompson and Michelle for Miramar, Scouser for Naenae.

i'll provide some details

miramar had at least 5 current/ ex central league players playing for them including halstead nathu and can't remember the other strikers name, the team was pretty stacked. our two centre backs had just returned from being away for 6 weeks and 2 weeks respectively. I was subbed on at half time to mark halstead after playing a full 90 minute game that morning, also had two other subs we put on that had also played full games. basically the pitch was sh*t and we were too.
It becomes a bit of an unfair advantage to a side when you have capital 5 players marking guys like that, we struggle with not being able to "drop" players from a higher side, because we are the top side for our club, thus why I got respect for Marist and how they are going!

lol @ halsteads comment "oh I got dropped because I've got a point to prove" somehow, I really don't think a NZFC player needs to prove anything in Capital 1...

Halstead is behind Dominic Rowe and Matt Keane in the pecking order at the moment, they have been the two top goal scorers in the Central League over the last two seasons, plus he's only just coming back...

I think you'll find that with Miramar needing to win every game to win the Central League the players dropped were dropped on form, which happens when you have competition for places at a strong club.  I've been on the end of it and it is very frustrating.

On the other side of the coin for Marist is the fact that they don't have higher teams dictating to them which players can and can't play each week.  There is nothing more frustrating than when someone goes and gets themselves sent off for the 1st team and you lose one of your best players the next week to go and sit on the bench to cover them.

Yup, your on the dot there James, thus why I really hope Marist win the division, they deserve it completely!

I think there needs to be more regulation of players of higher calibre being able to be dropped down like that, to be honest after coming on at half time, already stuffed from playing a full game and having to mark Halstead, I was completely as you said frustrated and rather embarassed at having had rings run around me!

Sadly, I think Marist are going to find the same thing when they face Miramar, with Miramar wanting to win the division, I'm sure they are going to come up against the same of what we did. I guess at least Miramar were sort of humble about it ( i think they knew they had to be, they might not of made it out of the club alive otherwise!!! )

Hey monkey, we have already played Miramar twice and fortunately managed to beat them twice

our remaining two games are wharfies and wainui (who managed another win on saturday, they r having a surprising run at the end) while miramar have petone and nth wellington

oh and i think james was saying not having a higher team in the club makes it a bit easier in some ways because you dont lose players to the higher team if they have suspensions or injuries....i guess it can be argued either way

So what are Miramar supposed to do - tell Halstead and Nathu that they can't play in the weekend because the opposition players had to play a game earlier in the day?

Like JD said - being the 2nd team in the club has its disadvantages as well.  When Miramar played Marist in the second round, the first team coach told a player not to play too hard as he would be involved in the firsts game the next day (it turned out he wasn't).  Not having that player on top form was definitly a disadvantage to Miramar - I'm not saying it cost them the game, but it was definitly a disadvantage.

I must just ask.....not to play too hard?

I can understand the comments on the first team sometimes taking a second teams players due to suspension or injuries in the first team, I mean Marist's second team has the same issue when we take their players....but to allow a player to play for the second team and then say 'oh don't go too hard'

I'm not sure if i was a player in a competitive match i could do that, does it mean don't run too fast to get the ball? or to let someone run past you if you can't make an easy tackle? If you let someone play, you surely can't expect them to do anything other than give their best, otherwise why not play someone who is fully committed to the match?

it was said to the player 5 minutes before kick-off.  It pissed a few people off, as you can imagine.

To be fair to the lad who it was said to, he still worked hard, but really wasn't the same player he had been for us the 4 or 5 weeks prior to that game.  I think it actually unsettled him more than he didn't try.

As I mentioned earlier, I am not saying that cost us the game - we were beaten fair and square - but it highlights one of the issues that is faced by a second team in a club.

Check the rules and the team card Marist for this week - who ever played for Wharfies 1st team last Saturday will not be avaialbe for selection against you, as their fixtures have been completed, no regrading of players who take the field is allowed. Goes for any other teams who might be disadvantage by 1st teams dropping players down when there season is COMPLETED. PS - check with Capital Soccer if your doubt this info.

LOL... I saw they had a game to go....I guess ultimately you've just gotta beat whoever gets put on the field.

It did make me wonder though, and i thought someone might be able to clarify, about players from our second team who play for our seconds and then sit on the bench for the firsts.

Do they count as players re-classified down a grade when they go back to play for the seconds again the following week if they get on and play 10 mins at the end of a game?

what about if they don't get on the field at all?

cheers

my understanding is they are re-classified but only if they take the field.  I know that if you are on the card but don't get on you definitely don't count.

Fair reply, I agree that it could be unsettling, could well play on the mind, and I know it would irritate me if someone came and said that to me or someone in a team I was playing for.

how about you just deal with it and play the game, every team every year has players in and out through injury as well. What about that then??

Karori were scared to lose capital one to wainui - Are Wainui going to win Capital One?
Karori should go down and wainui stay up - I think we play league games to determine things like that
I heard karori were scared today - Scared of what? You make no sense. Go back to Wainui primary school.

Given the conditions were hardly ideal yesterday at miramar park for maristv wharfies 2nds, Marist definately did not have an answer to a fired up wharfies team. They definately did not deserve to win given wharfies played most of the 2nd half with ten men. Great effort. GO MIRAMAR

Karori had to play four players from their 1st team. I think they like to bend the rules to suit them. Oh well. Marist had  more chances to score and were unlucky not to put a few away. Conditions were shocking. Spent half the game waiting for the ball to return from the South Island. Marist had 10 men towards the end, frustration led to a sending off for swearing with 5mins to go. Theres no balance karori were swearing all day. Especially the keeper after most goal kicks into the wind. Haha. Feverish, Karori 2nds were heading for relegation thats what i was trying to say. Im not from Wainui. Go Marist bring on Upper hutt. Petone to central league.

the sending off for the swearing was valid.... you can't say f**k off Ref at the top of your voice and expect to get away with it, swearing at your team mates or at your inability to kick it out of your goal box due to excessive head winds isn't the same thing. Karori utilized the fact their first team didn't have a game just like any other club in wellington would've and have done in the past. Mirimar have it in the bag

Only 4 players from the 1st Team......interesting becoz it sure didnt stop ya beating a Central League team (my beloved yellow n' green hahahahaha) with Team Wellington/Various NZ Age Group players.......if anything it shows some inconsistency.......oh and no balance in refereeing? its Marist remember, you should be used to getting s**t on by refs (another excuse hahaha).

Good luck in the playoff, you'll need it.

Yep, the sending off was valid, I don't think there was any argument against that, but I think the point that Quality was making was that it was frustrating to hear Karori swearing all day, and then have one of the Marist guys sent for swearing...

My view was that he got it for swearing at the ref (telling him to f**k off after he made a decision which everyone heard, even above the wind) as opposed to swearing in general (which I have always thought is the better interpretation, sending people off for swearing in frustration is a bit much).  james dean2007-08-13 12:09:37

Only 4 from the Wharfies 1st team playing, thought you could drop 3 only. Still a interesting round coming up. Miramar should beat Nth Wgton, but Alex Moore can be a great leveler in conditions like last Saturday [ Halsteed playing they will win easy]  and Marist will not have it easy at Wainui, with them fighting to aviod the automatic relegation spot.

Karori regraded a player to a lower division at 12.30 before "promoting" that "lower divison player"- the first team goalie i believe- to the 2.30 match

The Karori first team keeper isn't smart enough to think of that - they must have a smart coach..

This is allowed? If so then that means if a club drop 7-8 or even the whole first team to a lower division and then promoting them again is fine then. In that case, then what is the point in having the rule " only 3 first team players may drop from the second team".
