Why? Just cause the team is at a lower tier, does not mean there is the opportunity for stand out players.

In the years that the Phoenix came last, were all their players shark?

BIG difference in quality between some of the satellite teams and teams in the main draw.

Make more sense to have a separate satellite 'Team of Tournament'.

i think all player should be in the mix for this "team of tournament" as Karori last year seemed to have some good players so they should be given recognition if good enough to make this top 11 players.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Birkenhead dominated Bay Olympic in that game pretty convincing.

Whilst Waitakere in the Semi actually gave them a good game.

Call for entries has gone out for the 2016 Tournament.

From the replies that we have had, we seem (at this stage) to be one team short in the Satellite section

If anyone out there belongs to a Club that hasn't entered before and would like to enter, contact us at

cityrovers@xtra.co.nz

Entry fee is $900 + GST.   First in, best dressed!

We can assist with contacts for accommodation.

Don't piss off old people - the older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent

From the Capital I reckon Lower Hutt & Olympic (both in group C) are the strongest....Petone the weakest

In the 2 x local warm up tournaments, Lower Hutt won the Ivan England comfortably (Olympic did not compete) & Olympic won the Upper Hutt Tournament - Lower Hutt lost Q.Final on pens (to Island Bay) so didnt get to play against Olympic.

Of course, the final squads entered may have been boosted by "Guest Players".

Group C is by far the hardest group ..FHM will be strongish also.

D looks tough to me - Birko always good, Three Kings usually competitive and won the U19's Sunday comp this year (although knocked out in bowl quarters this year in the ACFC U17's tournie).  Cashmere from my experience have always been tough to play against, not sure about Bay Olympic, Tawa or IBU.

My picks though - probably going to be Auckland-centric to be fair.

Group A

Winner: Western Springs - have a stacked team!

Runner Up: Ellerslie - did well at the ACFC tournament finishing 4th - will do well to take 2nd spot from Miramar

Group B

Winner: Napier City Rovers

between Petone/Stop Out/Waitakere

Group C

Winner: Lower Hutt

Runner Up: Wellington Olympic

Group D

Winner: Birkenhead

Runner Up: Cashmere or Three Kings

I'm gonna call it:

Group A:

Winner: Western Springs

Runner Up: Ellerslie

(Upper Hutt & Miramar bottom 2)

Group B:

Winner: Napier City Rovers

Runner Up: Waitakere City

(Manurewa, Petone, Stop Out bottom 3)

Group C:

Winner: Lower Hutt

Runner Up: Wellington Olympic

(Waterside Karori & Oratia bottom 2)

Group D:

Winner: Birkenhead

Runner Up: Three Kings

(Tawa & Island Bay bottom 2)

Birkenhead to make their 5th final in 6 years and win it three years in a row for me, following their back to back in the U17's as well. Taking the clean sweep in 2016 of ACFC U17's, Chatham Cup and Napier U19's

Hobbo for US president as well :)

been watching satellite draw- watched a very talented Samoa Football academy team against Taupo (See article about SFF here:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-today/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503462&objectid=11733606) -they were talented but lacked a killer finish so drew 1-1.

Also following my new club Napier Marist who have high hopes to qualify for main draw. Would be a chance as well; many of the club's first team are under 19 & have been drafted into HBU youth team. The club won the National Marist tournament on Park Island last month also.

Having a break from the wind now but will go back to watch Marist vs. Metro at 3pm.

sounds like the wind is causing problems for some but just checked the results and it's looking interesting in the main draw while the satellite seems to have a couple of run aways.

some of the teams people favoured here seem to not have started so well and some that where discarded have picked up early point

but there is still a long way to go and you expect hic ups from youth football like this as they generally are not a squad/team for the year so under pressure mistakes are more likely.

I honestly don't know but I know that a few of the Marist lads came via Rover's last season and yes I believe relegation is on the cards

Both in Semi Finals this morning.

And Sports now into the final with Springs having the easier of the semis currently taking place. Looks Big T you could be spot on, though I still think Birko or  Bay O can take Springs.

Birko in another final.

In other news, water is good for you.

Oh right maybe something to do with ncr allowing the old boys club back to play in local prems instead of younger ones.

Top work on doing that well to marist seem to have come along way in last couple of years in terms of youth at the club.
