In that case my condolences. Terrible disease.

Three for me, and two for them.

do you mean copped a 4 month ban Tony Porter?

That'd be him! Not the first time he's let his passion for the game get away on him hence the extended ban i suppose. Top bloke though

JV, how many coaches leave the club rooms stone cold sober?

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I know loads of Top blokes who are always pissed, push referees about after a game and threaten to knock his head off if he sees him in the street.
Sounds like a good bloke to invite to a BBQ and a few bevvies.

yeah it's a fine line between the first two and the last three - i'm sure after he serves his time he will do his best to make amends and work hard for the club.

seriously though if you do want to come down and have a look and meet the guys we are having a little training/get together for the 2014 season on the 16th of November from 4pm to 6pm - your more than welcome to come down and have a look.

just realised it's the second series of the Futsal national league on the weekend of the 16th and since we have a bunch of guys involved with AFF East City we have delayed the above event until the 23rd - same date and time.

Looks like Dave Mulligan has been confirmed as player/coach for Forrest Hill Milford in the Northern League Div 2 for next season.

Although I'm also hearing that Prem div may be expanded to 12 teams, in which case FHM will remain in Div 1. I think a decision on that is due very soon.

that's interesting from FHM - following Springs approach ah la Emblem - should work out for them.

There is an NRFL Review meeting tonight at AFF at 7pm - one of the agenda items is the format of the premier league (below is the full agenda)

  Welcome

  Opening remarks

Schedule for drafting of draws for 2014

  Discussion topics

1.  Men’s Premier (league format and reserve grades)

2.  Men’s Division 1

3.  Men’s Division 2

4.  Women’s Premier (league format and reserve grade)

5.  Facilities and entry criteria

·  General Business:

6.  Lotto NRFL Fees

7.  Referees

8.  Misconduct reporting

9.  Lotto NRFL branding

10.General questions

·  Closing remarks

For me though even if everyone votes to have the premier league increased to 12 (which is the right call in my mind) it probably shouldn't be until the 2015 season as it's too late to do anything for 2014 in my opinion.

Either way it would make 2014 an interesting season.

Also a further thought to the above - maybe AFF have found it too hard to decide on the Fury situation so the easiest way to solve that is to bump two teams back into prems from Div 1, and vice versa with div 2 and div 1 which allows Manukau, Papakura and Fury to be involved in div 2 next year.

I reckon there's a good chance the 12 teams will go ahead and be from next season Chopah, just me guessing there though really. Means you guys will stay in the Prem, which would be a good outcome for ya.

Div 2 would be interesting with who comes up. You'd think Fury and Kura to come up and Manukau to stay up, but then I heard possibly it would be playoff between Old Blues and Waitemata with the winner to play Manukau for final spot. IMO Fury should go alright in Div 2 if they hang on to Lee and the core of their guys who gained promotion, but I think Manukau and Kura are both not northern league standard, haven't seen Old Blues or Waitemata so won't comment on them.

As for Mulligan, I immediately thought of Emblen and Springs when I heard, but he doesn't have the existing coaching role or credentials that Emblen had when he started, he may well bring more to FHM as a player and being able to rope a few old team mates in, as opposed to attracting promising youth players ala Emblen. Also if he's playing for HB in the ASB Prem, will he quit that when NRFL starts? Ideally you'd want to be concentrating on that primarily from start of Feb at the latest.

yeah it would benefit us in the short term but i would feel a bit sorry for a few of our guys who have left seeking premier league football because we couldn't offer it and then are left with a tough call to make.

To be honest it would probably leave us with a massive mountain to climb to not be relegated back the following season - however like you said better to be there than not i guess.

Yeah that would leave HBU a bit short - i guess he has to get some good people around him and get some things sorted before the ASB ends so he can do both roles?

If the prem does go to 12 would Melville get a playoff against the 9/10 side in prem league then as I would think that they would beat them!

i think it's too short of a season personally, i'm not saying make it 12 and chuck us back in there but for reasons i have mentioned before 18 games is just not enough.

No I know you are not speaking from an Ellerslie perspective so it was not an accusation.

People seem to forget that the Premier teams go far in the Chatham Cup and then there is mid week catch ups and at the end of the season. Teams are playing a lot of those to catch up and whinge about it and the subsequent injuries. You've then got to find grounds and hope they are still in shape with the winter use plus the extra marking and work for the council, the volunteers that run the club, match officials, cold at night, no spectators and some clubs run out their youth or reserve teams cause they cannot be bothered. This is not good for the league in my opinion.

People say 'oh it's too short' but forget how it actually pans out plus the fact those extra bottom two teams will not add to the quality of football at all.

All I can say is that based on the feedback at the meeting last night the majority of the clubs disagree with you..

What happens to the points when teams play an incorrectly registered player? What happens to teams that play a foreign player as a local in a CC match.

Ngaruawahia should have their points stripped and given to the other teams and lose promotion. In fact, it would put them at the bottom of the table and they would be relegated!

In this case, it could be a bit of drama over nothing - I'm waiting to hear somebody from Narra explain their position before we jump to conclusions, from what it seems so far Canterbury are just trying to re-affirm his clearance, but haven't managed to do it in time yet.

If it is confirmed that he wasn't registered properly, then it can be more than a one club problem, but at this stage there's no evidence.... so far

I might try follow up on this tomorrow, because the consequences could be serious as you say JV.

From an administrative point of view - would it be difficult to confirm the clearance of all the players from overseas they sign? How hard would it be to track all the players - would you have to take them on their word on their past playing history?

I'm sure somebody here would be in a better position than me to answer these qeustions.

I have no experience of this but I would think the club would go via the federation, then via the FA to Uruguay. Other clubs can do it and unless you have the piece of paper saying otherwise, you tell him that he can't play competitive football till he has it.

All theoretical of course

I do all the clearances and transfers for Ellerslie and to be honest it can be tough with foreign players, sometimes the language barrier can also not help the situation.  At the end of the day if you can't get the name of a club off the player you can't get an international clearance - that said we have always done an international clearance for our players so far - although it appears sometimes we may not have needed to.
In regards to the 12 team league debate - Vader nothing was decided as the clubs themselves have no voting power - AFF said all three federations would canvass their clubs and then have a meeting between the three of them to decide on that.
With the reserves league it's Mandatory in Premier (as it was last year), it's now Mandatory in Div 1 (new regulation) and it's optional (but recommended in Div 2 (no change from last year).

yeah so Melville i think into Premier League and FHM to stay up in div 1 and Ngaruawahia to take their place in Div 2.

Permalink Permalink

It would be interesting to see how it plays out, even though Melville ultimately finished 3rd, it was either Shore or Ngarra and a win that was going to go up (or a draw + goal difference). I'm gonna clutch at straws and hope that a) Ngarra are punished if they've messed up. b) that for some reason its decided the final game should be forfeited to Shore and we go up (he he). If.. and a big iff... they are found to be in the wrong, how will it be sorted, dropped to Div 2, Remain in Div 1, award all their points to the opposition teams? Interestingly They drew 1-1 with Melville both games with Marquez scoring in one of those games. They drew with Shore 3-3 in the first game (marquez x1) and hammered us 5-0 in the 'final' (Marquez x3)...
