Players often don't have a clue, ZG, particularly when they are lower tier players, often no more than young backpackers, coming from parts of Asia and South America, and not English speaking. They may have played futsall, or the equivalent of pub football, Sunday league stuff, and have no idea about the game's superstructures.

And to request a clearance you need to nominate a club/association to get clearance from.

On the other hand I must say it's been fascinating to see the issue of Frederico Marquez - good enough to start for Canterbury in the national league despite never played affiliated football before 2012-13 if clearances can be believed. :-)

One of the funniest instances, in reverse, was the case of Steven old (Manawatu) back 8-9 years ago.... His new club diligently sought clearance from his New York university St Johns - received it, then played him... only to belatedly find the university operated outside of Fifa statutes and he registration actually still resided with his former Palmie club from years earlier.  Ooops. But that one was brushed under the rug.

It's not always black and white with these things.

But just out of interest, ZG, I would be interested to hear the way you see it with the case of Alejandro Ferrari - one of the players ruled ineligible after the Papakura fishing expedition - who was signed from Tauranga City United, where he had previously played northern league? Should there be a statute of limitations on these things?

Yeah a statute of limitations could apply - however in the interest of keeping everyone legit I would put in place hefty retrospective fines if clubs were found to have breached rules. In that instance I would punish the current club (you cant just assume that another club has done things correctly - a) it's a poor excuse, b) have some self-responsibility and trust only your own work, c) assumption is the mother of all....) and apply a hefty fine on the original club so that people realise until such times as rules change the rules apply and they must abide by them. Just my thoughts... but then again I'm a bureaucrat...

pretty common news by now but if you havn't heard check out the northern league forum in Div 1 to see the shambles that surrounds Hibiscus Coast at the moment..

I read it - is there much to it?

not sure - seems odd way to treat a long standing coach who has won them promotion into div 1.

There are always two sides to every story but without knowing the other side it seems Terry has been very badly treated up there.

Also it's never a good thing for a club to be tainted with the possibility of player power responsible for removing a coach - isn't usually recieved well by prospective coaches/players - trust me i have some experience in that regard!

Havent read it as i cant access that forum on my phone, but basically it sounds like a JT/Lamps situation. Is that right?

Three for me, and two for them.

yeah pretty much - no players mentioned but those kind of shenanigans going on.

Permalink Permalink

Yarns I heard first hand was that some key players had lost respect for him and were going to go elsewhere if he was retained. Apparently disorganized trainings and lack of planning were the key issues.

I wonder if the results achieved were more to do with the talent of the players at the club than anything the coach had done, some good players in the squad.

But either way, always a dangerous situation when "player power" is involved, not overly appealing for future coaches.

Sad.

Much player movement been happening in the north?

Well, I'm transferring back to MAP from Bohemian Celtic. Two reasons: a) my new house is quite literally over the back fence from Anderson; b) I lost my first team place at BCFC to a former NZ U-20 player and I don't see my pushing-40 self getting it back, especially since BCFC are in the Conference this year. I'm more confident of handling Div 1 with MAP.

Rumours abound that Aaron Clapham is the latest big name to join Gl£nfield Rov€r$

It would be lovely if their clubrooms burnt down this season.

Three for me, and two for them.

You are taking the piss right Buffy? Does he not get paid enough in CHR?

Well i did see it on the Northern League Forum of a places, but they did provide a source (the Mainland Football transfer page). I can't find that particular page but it does seem like a legitimate rumour. They suggested he is transferring his law degree to Auckland Uni too.

Fuck i cannot stand Glenfield.

They have "bought" a few players for next year haven't they? Tade from ACFC?
Permalink Permalink

Has Tade gone there too? Heard Danko was a cert as early as last year. They nicked Sam Jasper off us. On their twitter all i can see is Dave Ellensohn and Mikael Munday as new signings.

I can't find the NFF transfer page to scope out any other signings/potential signings.

So is there a point to their reserve team now or.....

There won't be anything on the transfer page until ACFC finish the ASBP season will there?

Who have Birko picked up to "fill the gaps"? And will they go one better than last year?

How do you think defending champions ECB's will go with all the Wanderers players joining them?

Permalink Permalink

The funniest thing about all this pointless paying of players by Glenfield is that they still haven't actually won anything significant or made any progress - still a tinpot club playing on the side of the road in an industrial wasteland

Don't think Birko will go one better to be honest. Glenfield look incredibly strong and both ECB and TKU will be decent. Will be very tough to match last season.

Can see the Wanderers doing well at ECB. The benefit of playing week in week out in the national league will help them hugely in the NPL.

Bunch of Rubbish that rumour - if you want to check for yourself..

If he's moving up here for uni there's still every chance someone like Glenfield will swoop for him.

I agree happydays. Glen field pulled this stunt about 4 years ago buying Seaman, Nicholson, Pritchett, Uhlmann and a couple of others and it ended in tears.

The problem for them is they don't back it up in resources like coaches and management. Fortunately for them, I don't believe that Clapham is a head case to make the team implode. If it's true that him and Tade have gone there, that will be formidable. Danny Donegan is a nice guy but not a strong coach to lead a team

a lot of people just trying to wind up other clubs, really people should just chip up facts and then see what happens....

The Premier League will be wide open. There are a number of teams with a realistic chance of pushing for the title. I have no sympathy for Birko losing players because they are the main culprits to poaching other clubs players

I know for a fact that Paul Hobson has been scouting in the Waikato promising the earth. He is telling the  young players to join him and they will have a good chance to get into the World Cup Under 20 team .

I respect clubs who promote within their own club rather than just open the cheque each year. I've seen so many cases like FHM / Metro do that and where are they now. That is why I have a lot of tim for ECB who have a great track record of promoting young local players

Urm not true ... Who's been promised a spot in the 20 s ?

The 3 players who have come up . 2 of them are to old  for the 20 s...

Bays have poached at least 7 players for 2014...

Get your facts right all clubs go after players ..some like Bays and Glenfield buy them

So it's not true that Hobson came to the Waikato to talk to players?

He meet with a number of young players and some told him no thanks. Fact

I don't think your last comment is completely correct, given Chopah was on another thread asking whether is was morally right for ECB's head coach, who is also Wanderers Assistant Coach, to be transferring into ECB 4 Wanderers players.

I wasn't aware of the ECB situation but I know for the fact the situation around Hobson talking to young Waikato players

Normally , ECB do promote internally. If they have changed there philosophy that would be a shame
