On Radio Sport, Smithy (Dad) being asked what position does his son play, quick as "Injured"...

Don't think smith has completed a full season for a few years now, as soon as he gets over one injury, seems to pick up another. rotten luck for the guy

Senior Smith has said his son is something along the lines of 'a lazy kid who needs find someone else's couch to crash on when he's out of money' on air before. Can't remember word for word but he makes his disappointment no secret

Fuck this stupid game

Been around senior smith a couple times when he sometimes watched Jarrod play at city rovers. and yeah, he can be rather critical at times. But then again, so are a lot of people.

Hearing that Andrew McNeil has ended up at Ngaruawahia instead of Hamilton Wanderers, could be decently important in terms of Narra's hopes of survival and HW's chances of contention. Wanderers should be up amongst it again, could be an X-Factor if some of the Argentians they've recruited are of good quality.

It going to be a very tough league this year . Heard Glenfield spending big but the likes of Bale won't be available until after O League

The North Shore clubs will be very strong again. I can't see the sense in spending big on players because there is no prize money but I suppose that's for  the clubs to decide

The new pitch at Porritt is looking very good. Won't be ready until May so first few games will be played inside the stadium

It's only Cashfield doing it really.

Three for me, and two for them.

Bale not playing O-League

Birko 3-2 Three Kings. Were 3-0 up before TKU mounted a bit of a comeback. Decent start to the season.

Three for me, and two for them.

Glenfield 2-1 over Wanderers. Wanderers were 1-0 at halftime but the turning point when Nick Waldron gave Glenfield a penalty two mins into the second half and sent Wanderers play off.. Very soft pen and harsh decision to send player off

Waldron had a shocker, gave every 50/50 decision to a Glenfield. Game threatened to turn nasty in first game

Glenfield spending some cash. Jasper rumoured to be on$550 game so what will Cunneen, Bale, Gwyther, holloway and Pearce be getting...

Great article and photos! Thanks Enzo.

Yes, nice work Enzo. So a traditional NZ football club changes their colours completely, having clearly already spent bucket loads on players. For what exactly?

it's not a great change either in my opinion.

Jarrod Smith didn't play (can't remember who asked)

I thought Birkenhead were doing it quite comfortably. The 3rd goal was just an absolute cracking header and I thought the flood gates were going to open cause in the first half, 3KU's 2 CBs were all at sea in terms of marking and pace and nothing was happening to suggest it was going to change. They were regularly split open. Then after the 3rd goal, 3KU dragged Hugo Littlejohn and it was like Morgan and JHM dropped off and that allowed Neil Sykes to be an influence (at his age?) in the midfield. From about 40 out, it was 3KU. It really was a game of two halves despite there being no inclination from the 1st half that 3KU were going to do anything.

An ok game. I don't 3KU will be threatening and Birkenhead probably need to show a little bit more to show they are table toppers. Still only 1st game and that hit out will benefit both sides.

Think that's a pretty good reflection on the game .....Birkenhead pre season has been hampered by N.Y.L and injuries...

T.K.U do have a handful of players who didn't play. The two Solomon boy's .Simon arms . And last years leading goalscorer..

I think they will do ok.. I think Sports have recruited well they are this seasons darkhorse

Yeah I was trying to figure out who 3KU was missing and could not put my finger on it. Arms will make a massive difference at the back.

I had heard that apparently Sports have gotten quite young this year. Wyners crew? As long at Mitch Healey is still not rolling around, they will be fine but until I see them, they are my spoon contenders along with Ngaruawahia.

Stuart Holthusen? Nice little footballer. Good pick up for them.

Cam Lyndsey is a surprise. Lovemore is away with ACFC and will give them pace but Ross is not a footballer that really inspires me and I think he has peaked. NRFL Prem is about his level.

Why do clubs spend thousands on players. I can't understand the logic, yes they may win the league but there is no financial reward for doing so

I can see this ending in tears. The rest of the fee paying members of the club must be getting pissed off when they see $$$$ being paid to players.

Better spending money on club facilities and infrastructure

Can you honestly see Danny managing all these egos

Bear in mind the Pnix dont get the prize at the end of their rainbow  either , and there seems to be no real angst on here about that ....

can you piss off and keep your ACFC vs Nix battle out of one thread... just one...

Plus your point is stupid since there is prize money in the a-league not to mention a salary cap so your point is just as wrong as it is unwanted.
