We dealt Tauranga's chances of promotion in div 2 a big blow yesterday beating them 2-1 at their place, score not a reflection of the game at all but the lads defended like mad men and we were stoked with the win.
Cambridge have clinched bottom place.

Birko did the double of Rovers yesterday. First time probably ever that has happened.

Three for me, and two for them.

Oh, you're Warkworth! Congratulations on a good showing for your first season in what passes for the "big leagues" around here.

MAP have clinched promotion and I think are 3 points from clinching the title.

Yep, we're Warkworth and thanks it's been a relatively good effort for first year in the Northern league. 16 points so far, would love to make it 20 by the end of the season but some tough fixtures remaining.

Hopefully your MAP boys will wrap up the title next week and maybe they'll take the foot off the gas in a couple of weeks time when we play at your place

I think I might be helping tend the bar for that match.

I lend my support to all the Waikato teams in the lower divisons, but do quite enjoy watching Ngaruawahia, had a good win over North Shore, helped by a Grant Young shocker game. Cheers for beating Tauranga, maybe it'll help us get up over Fencibles

I'm very happy i didn't go down for that match. The text updates were bad enough.

Congrats to Mount Albert. Ngaruawahia looked very dodgy against Cambridge, but Fencibles lost so the race for second is on! 4 or 5 teams going for it now

Congratulations to MAP on winning the championship, I hear there is a party at their club after the game next week.

Classic Jekyll and Hide performance from my lot this week after beating Tauranga away last week we lost to a sh*t arse Springs outfit 4-0 at home, fair score probably would have been 3-3.

Question - penalty given, player takes it and hits the post, rebounds directly back to the player without anyone else touching it who puts it into the back of the net. Goal or not?
Referee awarded it despite huge protest from both players and fans on the sideline. Later admitted he should not have awarded it after first trying to say the keeper touched it (ridiculous as I had dived the wrong way!), so then blamed the lino

Top league has become a bit boring - Bay Olympic and Melville got tonked, but League 2 promotion race is well on - collapse by Fencibles making it very interesting

I made it there for a couple of hours and a few snakebites. I even busted a few fly moves on the dancefloor. Now my face aches.

Interesting rumour that the first team aren't going to bother going to their last match against North Shore and are going to go play golf instead.

MAP boys didnt let us beating them dull their celebrations then, sure didn't sound like it in the sheds after the game either.
No idea if that rumour is true but seemed to be some general banter about it during the after-match.

Ngara look like they have the inside running on 2nd with the game in hand but it will sure be interesting.

Buffon what happened Sunday? Saw the result but that's it.

Haha Cambridge would have been celebrating big time! Probably rate themselves a chance against 'Kura as well now.

My lot finished off the season well beating Mangere 5-2, they finished with 9 men, one sent off for spitting - animal.

Coming down to the wire for promotion in both Div 1 and 2...

Kicked us off the park, members of the 1st team drinking in the stand during the ressies game, pompous fans, Loftus acting like a right cock in the dugout, and Dean Delaney's god awful haircut.

But it's ok as long as you spout the usual "no one likes us/haters gonna hate" rubbish as if it justifies it all.

I don't actually know any members of the first team personally (I think maybe a couple of them talked to me at the promotion party but I can barely remember my teammates' names let alone anyone else) so I can't comment on any triumphalism they might have engaged in. But I'm still impressed so many people fell for Gagey's "default" troll. (I fell for it but I asked my coach and he was all like "LOL NO, but don't tell anyone".)

Congrats to Ngara on winning promotion, would have been a big one last night I reckon.

Div1 has got really tight now, thought Birko had the title in the can but they seem to be faltering. Whats the story Buffon? Will they beat an in-form Suburbs you think?

If they draw it will be enough, and i think they should at least manage a draw. You don't gain 28 pts from a possible 33 at home without doing something right.

Pub quiz fundraiser for the Napier u19 tournament the night of the game too, so not too outrageous to suggest this game could define the mid term future of the club. (ie win/draw = big turnout, loss = no show)

Three for me, and two for them.

I wasn't well disposed to Fencies in principle because that part of Auckland is full of the most backwards rednecks (the people who vote for trogdolytes like Dick Quax), but the behaviour of their "fans" on the NRFL forum really makes MAP's most pompous trolling look like lighthearted banter. So well done you Waikato chaps.

Not much sense talked by anyone on that forum D, just abuse.

Buffon thats an impressive record at home, Suburbs seem to be in good touch and with so much on it that game should be a cracker.

Bit gutted the season's finished, we had finally found some form, oh well it just gives me more time to fish now so its not all bad

Eh? You mean Div 1 promotion/title race? It's between Birko, Manurewa and Eastern Suburbs.

On another note does anyone have any info on promotion to Div 2? Who, when, format etc?

Seems to be all sorts of rumours, one minute it's Old Blues don't want to come up, then it's Old Blues will be playing for promotion

I'm assuming Waitemata and Manukau City are both wanting to come up also.

Cambridge would have been buoyed by their point against Springs but then got spanked 6-0 at home by Papakura so that might have dulled their jubilation a bit. I wouldnt want to be in their shoes playing off to stay in the division after a long season of getting pumped every week.

Hi all,

Eastern Suburbs came from behind to thump Birkenhead United 5-1 and win the First Division title, ahead of Manurewa on goal difference, 'Rewa having come from behind to win 3-1 at Matamata, a result which relegated the Waikato team.

Birkenhead, having gone unbeaten throughout their first nineteen games, picked up one point in their last three matches and finished third, losing their last two home games in the process. Had they won any of the seven games they drew during the season, they'd have got promotion, as things turned out.

The Second Division promotion-relegation system works thus:
Sep 17:  Old Blues v. Manukau City, Waipuna Park
Sep 20:  Manukau City v. Waitemata, Anderson Park
Sep 24:  Waitemata v. Old Blues, Croatian Cultural Club
Oct 1 & 8:  Cambridge v. Play-Offs winner, home and away, aggregate winner to NL2 for 2012

Cheers,

JR

Another year in Div1 then for Birko, they would be gutted no doubt. Buffon have you got a match report mate, presume you were there...

To be fair to Birkenhead, that team as it stands is not a bad team but they really lacked a central midfielder. Someone like a Daniel Johns, Zane Sole, Sam Matthews. If that Birkenhead team went to the 1st div, I think they would take a few lumpings for being less than competitive in the midfield.

Having said that, they couldn't be any worse than FHM or Metro.

Apparently Old Blues don't even have training facilities or clubrooms, wouldn't that be a rather big stumbling block to division 2 football?

Until very recently, Mangere FC was in exactly the same position. (Their clubrooms burned down and they needed 4 years to get new ones.)

Metro vs MAP, the Mt Albert derby in next year's Div 1! Should be tasty.

Woah, just noticed that the Manukau-Waitemata game is at our place. Very interesting because both our men's AFF team and my own team got dicked by Manukau City this year. But understandable since the MCAFC clubrooms are pretty grody and the pitch looks like they just chased the cows off it.
