TURF4WELLINGTON is Launched

Im a supporter of more pitches by the way, just think its either bandwagonism or a very narrow minded view of what the regions priorities are. If a 7.1 ever hit Wgtn the last thing we'd be worrying about is whether or not 5 pitches have been laid. Same argumment for RWC2011-although that, at least, has the potential to increase development of such things as pitches by increasing toruism dollars and by leaving legacy infrrastructure.

yes and yes, it is. but who are all these candidates who are suddenly turf advocates? where did they come from?

 

and all i am saying is i think it needs to be part of a bigger discussion, an election campaign based on turfs alone is an artificial campaign

 

Im not big on arguments that have a start/middle/end- i have never been abig believer in reason!

im more about gut reactions and my gut tells me something is fishy when someone comes out and says Artificial turfs are the #1 election issue; surely there must be bigger fish to fry?

What do people think of a cost of $50 per team to use an artificial?

 

 

�Well done to John Morrison for stitching together a deal for one more artificial sports pitch for Wellington.

�But it is only for one more, and while welcome that is not enough. It also comes after years of inactivity from him on the issue including voting against more artificial pitches in the budget round earlier this year.

�His action also comes only after considerable political pressure from winter sporting codes for more action from council.

�A number of candidates in the election including me have campaigned vigorously on the issue. I have consistently called for more artificial pitches with construction to start this summer. 

�My current advertising in the Wellingtonian and the Capital Times has been calling on the council to do more.

�It is good that Councillor Morrison has felt the heat of the political fire on this issue.

And amazingly money not available when the council was considering its budget only three months ago has now been found under the pressure of an election.

�There�s extra funding for drainage and to upgrade Kilbirnie Park as well as $500,000 towards the extra artificial pitch,� Mr Bishop said.

�While all these moves are welcome, they are clearly being made with the interests of councillors like Mr Morrison not the sportspeople of Wellington in mind.�

 

Currently for Onslow-Western I can only endorse Cr Foster.

ALso, would be good to know more about the feasibility of two pitches at Wakefield as was previously discussed.

This vote tomorrow night in the end isn't much different to the one that was held 6-weeks ago after Foster pushed for the money to come forward. Hopefully it has a different outcome!
