Auckland FC, Auckland AFC & FC Auckland (my favourite) all nice and simple.

Then just run some public competition, asking for folks to vote for a nick name/moniker from say 15 options. Helps give the team a profile before they kick a ball, gives the team an early community feel, and likely reduces the chances of picking a shark & unpopular one.

But yeah if Red Bull or some other corporate splashes the $25M, then sell out for sure. Rothmans FC Auckland a nice throwback to those who lament the past

Fudge no. The last thing you'd want as any link to the failed teams 09 has had.
Plus is so long ago now, many potential fans would know nothing about the Kings or Knights.

Let's be honest about this thread - It's all speculation anyway. Whether it happens or not, it makes for an interesting debate - the Good, the bad and the Ugly. Just a bit of fun, thinking up a name and a kit or even a badge.

I still hope it actually happens and that fans from all around the country get in behind it and either support the club or support the Nix.

I know it’s egg ball, but good artists borrow and great artists steal. I wouldn’t mind the hoops- they’re definitely iconic Auckland and could in no way be confused for any of the other 3 blue kits.

Play in blue and white stripes, call themselves Auckland Albion and sign up Jake Livermore and Steve Bruce as the marquee captain and manager.

There are people who can legally drink at games that were not born when the Kingz played their final game. A scary thought.

Just thinking now how we have younger footballers in Scandinavia and the US, Ireland, Scotland and others in larger squads in Japan and other places. That’s some diverse football knowledge and conditioning.

I wonder if having an Auckland team would be a good or a bad thing overall for developing players.

And would Declan let his academy products go there?

An Auckland support group will pop up if it happens. The best we can hope for is they aren't complete deadsh*ts like OSM or RBB.

I can't really see any way having an extra pathway would be detrimental to player development. Open another team - one that would hopefully have fewer Australian players - you might get an additional six New Zealanders starting every week and another four or five off the bench.

At the moment if you are a 19/20yo kid in New Zealand there might be one professional spot in the country in your position and if it belongs to a senior player then you have no chance. The Phoenix have given only 148 minutes to U20 players this season, for example. It then becomes increasingly obvious why so many countries are ahead of us in football. Two is better than one. But still no where near the dozens in Denmark/Norway who have similar populations but much more talent.

I'm not sure how much Declan runs Ole now, but it would be good to keep as many of the pathways open as possible. If that means bypassing NZ teams to go straight to Europe then so be it. The Phoenix Academy seems to have canibalised the Ole Academy, which isn't a good thing - only eleven players can be on the pitch at once. Had guys like Garbett, Just, Pijnaker, Stamenic gone to the Phoenix they could well have just been stuck behind guys with 'more experience' like Golec, Devere, Lokolingoy, Muratovic etc. Or perhaps they would prevented a Phoenix NZer from getting a spot.

Used to be called Bloc 5 back in the day, I think based on the section at Mt Smart (or possibly Albany, where they played some matches out of) they were situated in. Used to be pretty good value (in the Kingz NSL days). Kingz often get grouped in with the Knights, but had a lot more good memories that I can think of.

I haven't said in the "business end" of Kiwitea Street for years, are the 248 Service Crew still at it? And do they still do anti-Nix chants?

On a related topic, remember when the "Auckland City Knitting Circle" used to pop up here to call us an Aussie club that was sucking the life out of coalface football and taunting us about Serepsisos going to debtor's prison? If Auckland get an A-League franchise, I hope they stick to their principles and hate it equally

Being a born and breed Wellingtonian i have no trouble at all disliking all things Auckland. Some are kidding themselves if they think the Warriors are attracting or have ever consistantly attracted  near to capacity crowds.
Havnt seen it mentioned anywhere but i thought the Aussies were trying to get away from clubs with ethnic connections wouldnt that count against Auckland City or am i wrong there.

Have you seen how many tickets are left for Sunday?

Make Ryan Nelsen (... yes I know he's from Canterbury) the first coach and a Blackburn Rovers theme would fit well!

I always liked Blackburn's strip, and those colours would suit Auckland well. Not too many blue options (other than stripes) given Sydney have the full sky blue and Victory (... and Nix often lately, much to my dismay) have the full navy.

Reading between the lines of what Vuksich said, it's much less likely that they'll find $25 million than that they'll bargain with APL for a lesser sum

My hunch is that Doloras is using her Socialist network to broker a deal with the Supreme Leader. If Newcastle are happy to take bucket loads of blood stained Saudi riyahs, whats wrong with $25M of Workers' Party wons for Auckland FC.

Raising $21-$27M won't be easy, and as others have suggested it might have to be a staggered payment payment plan of a few million each year over a number of years.

But APL gave Auckland & Canberra are June deadline, to have an EOI or similar ready. So imagine there have been a lot of discussions going on behind the scenes, involving APL, NZF, potential local investors and maybe even some foreign ones.
