Apparently the picture makes it worse than it was. Rojas come from behind and Dorrans didn't know he was there. The boot was going up rather than into Marco's face

Classic hun behaviour that. Pish and a thug.

As an aside, apart from Victory, i'm not sure there are any easy games.

Finally saw the video, it was nothing like that I was told. He might have been unsighted but Marco came from front on. Easy Red, King missed a couple major calls last night.

Fox Sport are muppets- 'refs handled that well.'   High foot, dangerous play, 9/10 red. Marco out for some time.

I've never thought King was a good ref. He's worse than Beath. For mine, Beath is usually consistentish, though he had a couple of irritated calls last game and tbf I'm happy to see players pinged for swearing and dissent.

King though is the exemplar of the A league trend to react to playacting or complaining rather than fouls and not to punish dangerous challenges.

I don't think it looked like malice, but very dangerous play- exactly why there is a high foot rule.

Jaysus Fox I'd hate to see your HR complaints- ' it was a bouncy touch by Rojas and he's put himself and his team in the firing line.' ' Rojas must have made a mess of his nose'.

On a selfish level good for the Nix if Rojas misses a few games.

They play Victory next Wednesday in Melbs, backing up after CCM on Sunday, whilst VUC will have had a nice 7 day break.

That's interesting. My view on King and Beath is pretty much the opposite of yours. I've always seen King as a very consistent ref who communicates effectively and controls the game well with a minimum of mistakes (last night being the exception). The games flow better, players visibly respond better to his decision making and there is generally way less coach/player angst than in games reffed by Ams, Evans, Beath, Kersey, etc.

Chris Beath is extremely experienced yet is so often at the heart of refereeing controversies that I cringe whenever I see his name down to ref a Nix game. Consistent he is not. He also has a bad habit of slowing down games with schoolmasterly lectures of players which annoys them as much as it does me!

I guess with Beath I don't think he's great, but he usually doesn't lose control. Maybe just have forgotten his games. He hasn't reffed us much recently.

Ams and Kersey the worst defo.

Tbh I'd trust your recall above mine at the mo. My ref bug bears are not carding dangerous tackles early and listening to players selling fouls too much.

Either way it's a really difficult and unenviable job. The amount of crap referees cop is unbelievable and I often find that as I'm yelling at the TV as poor, nervous Kurt Ams stuffs up yet again I also feel quite sympathetic.

Although the standard of A League officiating still isn't where it needs to be I think it has improved in the 13 years we've been watching. For me atm there are two excellent refs, another couple coming along really well, with the rest a bit so-so but giving it their best shot. Frankly that's a better ratio of quality than the league has had for most of it's lifespan.

Soon as I heard Kurt Ams was the VAR I thought this ain't gonna end well. And is it it true that Fielding gave Stajic a yellow card for "standing up all game"?

Another classic A League officiating disaster.

Is it just me or does anyone else find Archie Thompson interesting to listen to? His analysis seems on to it but he also has a sense of humour to go with it.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Tbh I'm not sure about his analysis but I'd rather listen to him than Slater or Bozza. At least he doesn't have a massive ego.

Archie does nothing for me. He has the habit of constantly talking without providing anything to the game.

FFS why is VAR getting involved in that? Wasn't last night enough of a mess already?

I didn't expect much from him given his age and coming from Cyprus but he has been a great pick up for them.
