There was an application on the A-League website last week enabling you to pick an all star side from the league, got me thinking, could an all star weekend type thing work in the a-league? I dont really think it has a place but think its a fun exercise picking some teams. Presumably the concept would be an Australian 11 v the Rest of the World 11.

Be interested to see peoples teams, Smeltz, Leo and Lochy would walk in surely to an International side. Siggy knocking on the door perhaps. What does everyone else think?

Who would Smeltz play for?

Considering he is an All White it would be the international team

Oh, I forgot the German Aussie was an All White too!

It's more likely it would be against the MLS All Stars or something because Australians and Americans are the only ones stupid enough to make such a team

You mean, other than the J-League or K-League, both of which have fielded all star teams that also play each other?

As far as local players are concerned, you'll see pretty much that team playing in some Asian Cup games no doubt.

Australian all-stars

GK: Galekovic

T. El rich - Vargas - Moore - Jamieson

                   Jedinak*
      T. Dodd               Caceres
                     Corica

                Archie - Aloisi

Jedinak is not technically in the A-League anymore. Maybe Reid in his place? Muscat? Dunno.

Also Ruka and Ognenovski unlucky to miss out.

There is also another thread about this in the A-League forum

Smeltz was my first pick in the top 11, can't have the league's leading scorer not in the best 11!

Queenslander 3x a year.

The K-league All Star game is split geographically - The northern 7 teams vs the southern-most 7.

At least it was in 2003 when I went (based on 12 teams)

You could do something similar in Aus - The 3 NSW teams plus Melbourne and Adelaide vs the 3 Queensland teams, Wellington and Perth.
(Based on next seasons lineup) Not perfect geography, but a simple split along state lines.

If that happened it would be a one-sided contest I think.

True - I just threw the teams together quickly as an example. 3 Qld and 3 NSW teams together was just convenient.

They should so have an A-League vs Premiership team match. Or something similar.

Otherwise Australia vs Rest of the world a-league players.

How could you possibly split up:

     Hernandez Flores Broich
        Smeltz Van Dyk Ifill Fowler

I reckon itd be cool to do maybe the pacific coast teams = Fury, Brissy, GCU, Jets, CCM, Sydney

vs Perth, Adelaide, Heart, Victory, Nix

Except some of the teams might end up being built primarily from adelaide, roar etc

I personally would prefer A league all stars Vs "invitation team" aka EPL team or Spanish or Italian.

It reads like the list of players that commentators talk up before they've kicked a ball in anger (or make excuses for when they do nowt).

Franz Straka gets a special nomination for best-dressed, I assume.

I know, I know, its serious!

...and Ifill?  Really?

I mean we love him dearly and need him back but even he knows he was having a pretty average season in the main before the injury.

My team would be...

Moss
Fyfe, Smith, DeVere, Rose
Flores, Broich, Hernandez
Barbarouses, van Dijk, Simon

Coach: Postecoglu

Ref: Delovski, but he's not nominated for some reason

Agree with most of that team, but would have Zwaansvijk ahead of Smith, and Kruse ahead of Simon.

While you can't go against any of those players, if you ask 10 people on this forum you would get a massive difference of opinion.
I think it is a pretty good side.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Straka, while not being a very sucessful coach on the pitch, was a great asset to NQF. Changing the chemistry of the team and between the team and coaching staff. He has done a lot for the club this season.

I think the nomination is warranted.
