What surprised me was how lose the MU defense was. A team of A-league ringins got at least 4 clean shots on goal. Berisha had heaps of time to turn for his goal and he should have done better for his other shot. Broisch was unmarked when he blasted over the bar and it was a brilliant save that kept out Boij???? Really surprised that a top EPL team could be so disorganised at the back...even though its not their first 11 CB's these guys wear the MU shirt.

United fielded Evra, Ferdinand, Jones, Raphael at the back - not second-stringers and could easily start for them in the EPL.
A-League team what I expected from a scratch team v an established club team who happen to be the champions of one of the best leagues in the world.
I've seen FIFA All Star sides play established club sides and the club sides always run rings around an "All-Stars" team.
Thought McGlinchey did alright in his 45 mins (way better than Miller)...Broich looked unfit...

I thought Broich was actually one of the best on the park. Looked sharp and far better than little Mac who had a few stray passes.

Yeah, I thought Broich was one of the better on the park. Thought Ifill looked good during his cameo, unfortunately Emerton was on the field for so long, he should have come off at half time for Celeski who I thought looked a lot better than Emerton. Berisha, apart from goal, was generally poor. Hyphen wasn't good, don't think the system suited him.

It was a pretty strong United side, with 8 first team regulars and I assume Zaha will become one of those. Will be interesting to see how Lingard is used as he has looked sharp in the last two games.

MANCHESTER United's recent visit to Sydney almost became one of the biggest embarrassments in Australia's sporting history.

Just an hour before kick-off, the game was in danger of being abandoned over a sponsorship row involving soft drink giants Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

ANZ Stadium officials have confirmed Manchester United refused to take the field until Coke signs were removed from the giant screens.

Not an easy task considering Coke is one of the stadium's major backers and have poured in millions of dollars in recent years. Arch-rivals Pepsi recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Red Devils which created the problem.

The issue wasn't solved until 7.40pm - just 20 minutes before kick-off when Manchester United agreed to accept Mount Franklin water, another Coca-Cola Amatil product, on the big screens.

Why should one of their sponsorships cause irreparable damage to the clubs brand within Australia/NZ? "Because they are sponsors" is hardly good justification for cancelling the game 20 minutes before it was due to start, it's ridiculoius.

Yeah I have to agree that it's stupid. If Man U are that bent about it, they should put this kind of thing in the contract as a condition so it was resolved way beforehand.

Also, the United officials would have seen it when they inspected the stadium when they arrived in Australia. The fact that they only mentioned it 20 minutes before kickoff is disgraceful.

Do you know how much money Pepsi is sponsoring ? It's got to be 10s of millions on pounds.

When Ronaldinho got sacked from Coca Cola for sipping Pepsi do you think that is "ridiculous" ?  http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/ronaldinho-500-000-cola-121115487.html

Man Utd signed a contract with Pepsi. And I would put my balls on there being a clause saying they can't have anything to do with rival companies.

The issues was solved 20 mins before kick off, it was noticed an hour before kick off. If it was advertising that was shown on the big screen, it wouldn't have been noticed in ground inspections unless the big screen was on then.

I can understand Man Utd trying to protect their sponsors, the FFA do it all the time. Would have been a fiasco if they didn't play, neither parties would have come out looking good.

I  think you will find the idea is to get big clubs to Australia to help the football profile, rather than who they play.
If it is a pants idea, how come they fill the MCG?

All Stars were missing a lot of the best players but the new CBA has included the provision that if selected they have to make themselves available. That will help its profile.

Thomas Broich tops fan voting for FOXTEL A-League All Stars

Joe Marston medallist Thomas Broich topped the popular vote for the FOXTEL A-League All Stars.

Hyundai A-League player of the year Thomas Broich of Brisbane Roar has topped the fan voting for the 32-player preliminary squad for the FOXTEL A-League All Stars match, Football Federation Australia has revealed today.

Broich was the fans’ top pick, narrowly ahead of Alessandro del Piero, the captain of the 2014 FOXTEL A-League All Stars.

The A-League All Stars will meet the newly crowned Italian Champions Juventus FC at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, on 10 August later this year. Go to www.a-leagueallstars.com.au/tickets to buy your tickets online. To purchase over the phone, call Ticketek on 132 849 or get your tickets from your local Ticketek agency.

In the first stage of voting for the FOXTEL A-League All Stars selection, over 50,000 votes were cast by fans who were able to choose from all 10 Hyundai A-League clubs in picking 15 players for their team. Fans were also able to select their preferred formation.

Rounding out the top five picks behind Broich and Del Piero were Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic, A-League Golden Boot winner Adam Taggart of Newcastle United and Brisbane Roar championship winner Ivan Franjic.

The second stage of fan voting for the final 16 players for the A-League All Stars is now open.Click here to cast your vote!

FOXTEL A-League All Stars Head Coach Josep Gombau will then use his voting right to include his four wild card selections to make up the 20-man squad to face Juventus FC on 10 August.

FFA CEO David Gallop said the All Stars preliminary squad captured the quality and excitement on show in the Hyundai A-League.

“The squad is packed full of star performers who light up the competition each week,” said Gallop. “The fans have shown they love the players who turn on the style and make the A-League such great entertainment.

“I think Josep Gombau will have an array of talent to choose from when it comes to facing Juventus in August.”
