I know the FFA gets a bad rap from a lot of people in Aus, but surely decisions like this don't help their reputation.

After giving permission for Victory and Heart to play, they then change their minds after the competition has started because it might possibly detract from the possibility that at some point in the future they may have a national cup.

Surely this sort of thing is what the FFA would want to help bridge the gap between 'old soccer' and the A-League, and would be a brilliant thing for the grassroots players to be aiming for.

that's sucks at least the eventual winner will get a friendly against one of the a-league teams, the nix should do something like this with the winner of the ASB premiership, to start of the preseason.

I don't understand how involving Heart and Victory in the Mirabella Cup undermines or distracts from an upcoming FFA cup. Surely all it will do is get more attention, bigger crowds, and make it that much juicier for tv coverage....am I missing something?

Are the Phoenix allowed to enter the Chatam Cup? Or are they not allowed because they are a pro team?

Could have been a good comp for the Phoenix A to compete in too. And what about NZFC clubs?

Does anyone know where to find the 'who is allowed to enter' for the Chatam Cup.

Regulations relating to the entry for the Chatham Cup:

(a) The competition shall be open to:
i. All clubs being members of District Federations affiliated to NZF, with entries
restricted to one team per club.
ii. Secondary school affiliated to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Football
Association (NZFSFA), such entries to be at the sole discretion of NZF, and in
any event limited to one team per school.
On entering a team in this competition the entering team and the NZSSFA
agree to abide by this Regulation 12 and all other NZF Regulations
(specifically with regard to matters of discipline) and the NZF Code of
Conduct.
iii. Any other team, being a combination of clubs from the same District
Federation not entered in the competition but which would otherwise be
eligible in their own right to enter the competition pursuant to clause 2(a)(i),
which NZF may, in its sole discretion, authorise to enter the competition.

Thanks!

Still not sure that 100% clears up whether NZFC / Phoenix would be able to enter a team. point iii seems to be a 'NZF can decide to let any other team in if they feel like it' sort of clause.

Phoenix is not a member of Capital Football, so that makes them ineligible.

The way I read clause 3 is that an ASB Premiership team could conceivably enter if it was perceived as combination team consisting of clubs from the same District Federation (perhaps in a way TeeDubs used to operate) as long as the clubs making up that combination team do not enter. But can't see that happening any time soon.el grapadura2011-05-20 11:55:42

I went to SBS TV's Fans Forum last night which had the FFA boss on stage as a panelist.

This question re the Mirabella Cup was brought up. Buckley it would be too "confusing" for us to have another cup comp running at the same time as next year's FFA Cup.

c**t.
