And it was Atkinson.

Such a tough break.

I was so worried it’d be Gillion.

Great win for Auckland. Excellent game to watch.

They had their chances earlier but didn’t take them, so it had to go to the wire with penalties. Fantastic set of penalties

They’ll get a bigger crowd next week.

Two of the most unlikeable teams in the a-league. For someone of his age Behich really has temper problem. Maybe look into why Woud reacted like that at the end - Beech being an absolute tosser

He didn't look close to picking which way they were going up until then.

But when you team takes penalties like AFC did, you only need to be right once & he was the hero.

Entertaining game for the neutrals. As much as i dislike AFC i hate any team from the City franchise even more. They are just part of a plastic global empire....the MacDonalds of football. May is quite a good footballer. Elliot has cemented his AW selection.
Gillion shows that going away to the Oceania pro league has matured his game. Nix need to get into this comp to develop our youngsters.

Behich must have the scariest eyes in the history of A league football.

Tough to see AFC in their current state going on a four match winning run, but they have given themselves a chance.

Home leg first next week will be a good thing and hopefully allow them to recover a bit.

Like a few above was sure that Gillion would miss. He was obviously against tiring legs when he came on but seemed to make a point of difference and the best option to score. Think there still is a late blooming player there and hope AFC promote him to a senior contract next year. If not think he should be picked up by the Nix.

Nice for the All White squad contenders to also have at least two more weeks of football before the World Cup.

Would be poetic justice if AFC and Victory win and revenge for last year is handed out at Mt Smart, with a shot hitting both posts and trickling in.

Auckland will rise once more

I looked at Nabbout and despaired a bit to be honest. I hope none of this piratical Jets team end up with their career’s petering out at City.

Behich, Nabbout, Leckie…all Aussie legends, but finishing 6th and often playing like robots without heart or soul to small crowds.

I agree re-the City group, AFC also have a great chance to make the GF.

Adelaide are probably on par and have no Jovanavic for the first league.

Agreed, Gillion proves why us not in the OFC league is dangerous.

Ugh back from dinner out and see two lousy results.  Wanted the City Men to win and the Women to lose but the ferkin opposite happens.  There is no football god.

Auckland deserved to go through.

Assume they now have Adelaide at home next week? Interesting matchup against a team they have mostly drawn against.

Three for me, and two for them.

A-League fans can be strange creatures. Wouldn't a finals match be the one game you'd attend?? Unless they massively hiked ticket prices
Prices were increased.  I'll say +50% or thereabouts for GA.  Also not opening top of south stand forces potential attendees into higher seated price bracket.  The other factor is that 5pm Saturday kickoff overlaps club football.

So they did increase ticket prices????....and got a small crowd. The Germans have a great word for that.
Do the A League take the ticket revenue for the finals playoffs?
If its the club then its not a great look for a club owned by a billionaire to fleece locals, many of whom are currently stuggling to pay their bills

Sydney copying us with a goal past the 80th minute to beat Victory 1 nil.

No Victoria teams in the final four of the mens, and no NSW teams in the final four of the womens.

Yes.

The home semi against Adelaide will start a 6, so we'll see whether that deals with the community football problem.

Preety dam sure the ticket prices are set by the A league and they pocket the revenue.

The clubs don’t benefit financially.

At least that was the case last year with AFC’s semi verses Victory.

Finals are run by the league and they pocket all the gate takings.

Should do with a slightly better time if 6pm instead of 5pm as well.

Three for me, and two for them.

Promising from Gillion. He's fast, can beat a man, and lately seems to have a better final pass. Two good performances in a row now.

Bu the same goes for Melbourne City. Even if Auckland are last year's premiers, Melbourne are last year's champions, and they know how to lift for a big occasion.  They could have also won the game in regular time if they had taken some of their channces.  I totally understand how some of their players must have felt sitting on the bench after it was all over, and you could see tears in the eyes of more than one of the younger players.
