Best thing for AFC and their fans and the league. Something for them to come back and fight for next season. It is not right or natural that a team faces as little adversity as AFC has done.
he did clarify shortly after but damage was done. Can't even be professional or impartial about the rival team of the team from his city. Clearly very swept up in all the excitement about them. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouthLG
Oh and Piney, 29k is not the record. Take your Auckland jersey off, Glory hunter.

What happened to David Chote? He was ‘Piney I need to lie down’ right? Preseason cup final, maybe?
Refreshing to see something finally didn't go Perfect FC's way.
Wellingtonian mindset aside, congratulations Auckland, you well and truly have done football in this country proud and you finally brought home a piece of silverware for a NZ professional team after 26 years.
Just hope we can finally give you a good challenge next season.

Yep. As much as it hurts to say something nice about Auckland, the club has done extremely well, deserve respect and acknowledgement. Looking forward to next season already.

3-0 over them next season and getting Corica sacked would be nice! It’s all still in play at the moment.
Was a shame, but saying that winning both pieces of silver in the first season would mean everything in the future would have been hard to beat and make a mockery of the league.
Winning the league over 26 games, for mine was the true prize. Well done AFC, it was a great season.
Will mean they will amp things up further next year and would expect two new signings for the left wing and a badly needed striker. If they had won the full monty they may just have retained them all.

Yeh that brought back good memories. Another great Chotie quote was" We are off to the pub Piney'
Even if it’s MikeCJ- would love to hear a passionate pro-Nix commentator like they have on the PL ‘club’ broadcasts. Make up for Harper, Daniel McBreen etc etc
Piney’s been grand, but clearly he can’t continue after the marriage, old new and blue today!
Sky tv crew called it quits pretty early. Thought theyd make a bigger deal of the end of their A-League coverage for the season, goodbye to Paulsen etc
Edit: must have been so gutted about their beloved AFC losing

Central Hawkes Bay Nix and tragic follower of Charlton Athletic
Also hate Alex King. He was the guy who just gave up for about 5 minutes at the end against Perth and he’s usually this inconsistent. Plus he seems to be their ‘best ref’. A la Jared Gillet.
Honestly shockingly bad game management. Early in the first half he let the game restart while Victory's physio was still on the pitch trying to delay the game (which led to the tussle of the benches). Stood their as Victory players screamed in his face. Every time wasting tactic was attempted and used. He even went and helped them stretch at one point. Just card them ffs!
And to card Hay at the end of it just comes across hilariously salty. The dude had no clue.

AFC were just a tiny bit sluggish. Vuck always getting there to the 50-50 balls. Could have been much worse if Dan Hall hadn't made some dynamite last minute tackles. All the crosses coming in seemed to be just a *touch* too deep.
On the other hand - if Moreno's two-goal-post effort last week had gone in, and that first goal hadn't taken a hell of a deflection of Pijnaker, the score would be precisely reverse. Football's a bitch and then you die.
Paulsen was clearly utterly gutted at full time. De Vries waved bye-bye which led to suspicions about his plans for next season.

Yep, despite everything over our nearly 18 year history, the Nix are indeed still the closest NZ team to making a grand final, at least that's something we have over Auckland.
Let's enjoy and gloat about tonight's result as much as we can before the Australia Cup comes around.
Glad Ali William's team lost. That guy is the most JAFA'd up SOB I've ever seen.
Glad we've got more kiwi blokes getting their shot though. I just can't fathom liking AFC unless you're living in Auckland. Corica having a whinge in live TV was chef's kiss - man he does not change does he

Whether we like it or not…AFC have completely changed the whole a-league paradigm in nz. It’s brilliant actually. Let’s see how the nix respond 😂
Can’t wait for next season already…
Agreed. The Nix have to win their home games against AFC next season or they're proper shark. Still support em no matter what but you can't put glitter on a turd with the Nix at the moment
didn't see this - sure it was bye-bye waving and not just thanks for the season, see ya waving?Doloras

Speaking of De Vries, we're really going to need some of his excellent crosses against Ivory Coast and Ukraine to Wood/others.
Not an Auckland fan but I have to acknowledge and respect their effort this season. Great crowds, atmosphere and a team that has done well. They've certainly livend things up. More in that crowd than in the other 3 semi final games in total. Something they can be proud of.
The line has been drawn in the sand, 3 defeats against them, next season, time for us to reverse that. Be interesting to see if AFC lose more than just Paulsen. That lad saved them at least 10 points.
The player movement round-about. Here at the Nix we are used to losing 8 players per season, will AFC follow the same route. A lot of other A League teams do too.
Interesting times ahead.

AFC will be keeping the vast majority of their squad. Mata, Moreno and Rogerson are the only players they wouldnt want to lose out of contract. A NZH article a few weeks back strongly suggested a Rogerson extension was all but agreed. And I can't see fee paying clubs in for many of their players. Maybe Hall or Pijnaker but that would be it.
I personally think AFC started looking less imperious since Francois came into the regular starting lineup. I would have had Moreno/Randall in instead. Also might have changed the formation slightly and had Brimmer come into the lineup to replace Mata, rather than having Randall operate as a replacement striker.
Well done to them for an amazing first season. They have shown us up on and off the field.
Next year will be interesting for them. What happens if they just do "okay" and come 5th but struggle a bit. Will the fans keep showing up in huge numbers?
They had a great squad this year. Awesome imports and the kiwis they all had something to prove.

Word has it from Auckland sources that Mata is headed back to Shrewsbury and Moreno is asking for too much to stay. That's not shocking in the slightest when you have a successful season - prices inevitably increase.
They'll have a pretty settled lineup for 25/26 otherwise, and even though they've moved early to sign Scott Morris as #2 to Woud, Paulsen will be a big hole to fill.
Think it showed last night too that Mata was important. Randall is just a different kind of player, but wasn’t scaring Vic at all, unfortunately.
Randell runs a lot, but doesn't seem to have much guile or subtlety about him. Pijnaker is starting to be found out - he's massive and scored a few goals, but he wasn't tight in his defending and switched off. Is the "Dan Hall might be eligible for the AWs" still a thing?
There will be overseas interest in Dan Hall. And doubt Auckland will stand in his way if a decent offer comes in. He has Socceroos ambitions
As a replacement Tuiloma would be a target but it would need to be a big pay cut from what he gets at Charlotte. Kyle Adams might be up to ALM standard and much cheaper.
Perhaps Bazeley will let ole mate Corica drop into AWs camp again, this time in Toronto to talk to a few. Just and Singh can’t keep playing 2nd tier European club football forever
Hopefully Waine for Mata and a young up and coming teenage South American import on Bournemouth’s radar for Moreno.
In terms of outgoings and those under contract, I think only two may be targeted. Dan Hall has achieved all he can in this part of te( world and is still young enough to be attractive in Europe.
Someone like Louis may be targeted by a J league club as with his physical presence he could put himself about in that legaue.
