Yeah, I think they went for marquee cuz he is their 'biggest' signing so far rather than he is on Marquee money.

I really hope AFC push his Fijian heritage to get south Aucklanders, especially those who normally don't follow football, to Mt. Smart.

Any news on Corban Piper YH?  Surely he'd be a good pickup as a scholarship player, though will be 22 in September.

Nah I haven't heard anything, but I've been a bit lazy and haven't kept up with my player rounds of late.

Might be time to flick out a few messages and see who's biting on the domestic scene.

That boy is some athlete. So are a few of those Birko boys. Definitely a few rough diamonds floating around the Northern League scene. Look at Grieve who went straight from Birko to St Mirren and was playing within a month or two.

Hiroki Sakai isn't far away from being confirmed.

We're pretty much just waiting on an announcement at this point.

I'm really excited for AFC now. Am really liking how they are getting out in to Auckland's clubs and are putting up some really positive social media posts.

The Knights Mk1 only got involved with Massey Uni Albany (with my input) and Waitakere United (don't know how much the Kingz did, maybe Bloc5 boys know).

Hopefully Gouldy can iron out Wouds weaknesses and provide the AWs with another dependable keeper for competition. I don't think we've ever had this many competent keepers at one time (Paulsen, Crocombe, Taznav, Sail, and fingers crossed Woud).

As a fan of all things kiwi football, I can't wait to get home at Christmas/New years and watch both the Nix and Knights play. Super excited for next season.

Jake Brimmer announcement incoming.

Man on the ground says he was training separately from team yesterday - A Light run after the rest of them were done and dusted, so yeah he's either been sick or carrying a slight niggle.

I guess there is no need to rush anything at this stage of pre season anyway.

The 2nd Johnny Warren Medal winner to sign for a NZ ALM club today.

He was pretty average at the VUC last season under Poppa. At age 26, might be leaving it late for that big move to Europe. But interesting that both him & Hall (age 25) have chosen AFC over presumably other Aussie club suitors.

Foley's cash making a difference already.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/football/auckland-fc/auckland-fc-melbourne-victorys-jake-brimmer-unveiled-as-new-a-league-signing/QOMQPJ3FDJETHBOIZ3ZIHNDJRA/

The 26-year-old, the 2021-22 recipient of the Johnny Warren Medal, which is awarded to the A-League Men’s best player, was unveiled by Auckland FC head coach Steve Corica during a pre-season training session at North Harbour Stadium.

With nearly 150 A-League caps, he brings experience to the Auckland FC squad while entering his physical prime.

Corica expressed his confidence in Brimmer’s talent and believed the club’s pathways would help him succeed beyond the A-League.

“He possesses immense talent that will take him beyond the A-League. Auckland FC has the pathways to help him achieve that and we anticipate he will step up to his role within the club as a key contributor to the team’s success both on and off the field.”

At only 24 (wrong he's 26), Brimmer was the youngest Australian to win the Johnny Warren Medal award since Mark Viduka was crowned player of the year in 1995.

Brimmer, who has been praised for his all-action style of play and goal-scoring ability, has also been named in the A-League All-Star team and received Melbourne Victory’s Victory Medal.

“He has superb passing range and the ability to score from anywhere within 35 yards of goal. Combined with his tenure in Victory’s leadership group, Jake has demonstrated dedicated progression from player to a key role model for his teammates,” said Corica.

“The next step is to continue to work hard on his game and at being the best player he can be for Auckland FC.”

In 2014, while negotiating a contract with the Victory, Brimmer was seen by a scout from the English Premier League’s Liverpool and subsequently signed a three-year deal. He spent three years with the six-time European champions before being released in 2017.

His signing adds to Auckland FC’s building squad, which includes back-to-back champion Dan Hall, All Whites Callan Elliot and Joey Champness, and three-time A-League title winner Scott Galloway.

Brimmer, who was born in Lilydale, Victoria, spoke highly of his time at semi-professional club Nunawading City FC in Victoria’s Premier League 2 and expressed his excitement for the new challenge with Auckland FC.

“It’s never easy leaving the club you’ve grown up supporting, but Auckland FC will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having played alongside many of the team, I know how strong the squad is and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win.”

Ok, I’ll call it now.

I was expecting AFC, to sign one top kiwi player who was off contract  to make a statement. Realistically that could only be Rojas or Singh.

As Rojas is off the table, my money is on Singh being signed and delivered.

That would make for some incredibly fiery derbies of a high standard. Wow. What a thought.

They mean he was 24 when he won the JW, not that he’s 24 now. Confusingly written though.

Only a step back if he has a Europe team interested in him that will give him regular game time, he could be a star in the a-league and maybe get another chance in Europe.

The information at the time was accurate. Like many things, circumstances change. Maybe YHHM can check his contacts to see if it was ever on the cards? Not that it really matters. In future might just go with the “people are saying” line and being a mouthpiece for Nix management - thats if you dont mind me stepping on your toes?

Rojas himself told us it wasn't on the cards. When he joined Brisbane he said Auckland had approached him and he'd told them he wasn't interested at the time.

Anyway chill, it's just a bit of banter.
