how dare a coach introduce his own philosophy.

Sounds like the players know what they're doing, they probably don't even need to bother hiring a new coach.

Well its a club that's supposedly built on a philosophy and Mulvey knew that when he took the job, unfortunately for them Adelaide has stolen their thunder.

I was saying that Brisbane won because of the talent they had (Berisha), not the coaching from Mulvey. If the coach was any good, they would not miss Berisha because they squad they have is not too different from last year and if he was any good as a coach, he would be able to get results. The fact is, the coach is not that good.

What I found interesting was that he was put on notice after last year, immediately after winning the double. Seems like madness, but then maybe Ernie should be put on notice, after all the club has professed to play "Total Football" and I have yet to see it.

They're bottom of the table because this is the A-League. With caps and quotas and all that kind of shit there will never be a 'big 4' equivalent. Every founding club has made a grand final, and every club has finished outside the finals.

But you haven't actually addressed the fact that Brisbane won by 12 points when Berisha only started 17 games and was sent off in 3 games. To say the Roar were reliant on Berisha isn't actually true. Yes he did get the equaliser in the grand final.

If you take away all of Berisha's league goals (11) the Brisbane Roar would have had a +7 goal difference. This would still have been the second best goal difference in the league (Adelaide were +9 although I realise if you take away Berisha's goals every other team's goals conceded changes).

To say they were reliant on Berisha last season is false.

Then the other question is: how can you determine a coach is not good enough on 6 games when 4 of those games were against the top 4 sides?

Just to add to this. In the 9 games he missed, Roar won 19 points (2.1 points per game). When he played, they won 1.8 points per game.

I wouldn't say they were reliant on him. But they certainly haven't replaced him sufficiently.

Three for me, and two for them.

fairly obvious they just found a manager they liked better so used the teams record 6 games in as an excuse to replace Mulvey.

I think the Nelsen connection here is that Brisbane's owners have been reading the "Toronto FC Manual of Club Management" and decided to be more radical than Toronto and fire their coach really early on.

"Toronto FC Manual, Chapter One: Fire Your Coach Before He Has Any Chance of Success to Show Everyone Who's Really in Charge."

I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground
Just give me what I know is mine,

It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth
Here's to the future for the dreams of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now."

Basically what the Roar seem to be saying in regards to Mulvey is that there is only one way Brisbane can play football. I actually respect a manager who can play a possession game and also a counter attacking game. It seems stupid to play football in one way. Having a philosophy may seem romantic but imagine if an English team still played a 2-3-5 formation because it was their philosophy? Football is about winning.

Recruitment was also a joke. Young was recruited from the sixth division of English football, and doesn't even seem to be on par with reserve keepers in the A-League, I know I would take Italiano over Young yet they persist with him.

There were definitely issues off the park - and if the way the team was run the way they want then its as good a reason as any to get rid of him. Remember that they had experience of a political and unharmoneous team when Farina in charge

Ties in with when we meet them. Nice (not the injury, just timing in relation to the fixture against us)

But the Roar explicitly stated that he was sacked for philosophical reasons and not because of results. I don't get that. They basically said that he was training the team not in the Roar's philosophy and they want all their youth teams to play the same style ala Barcelona.

I think signing Young can't really be blamed on Mulvey? Surely your GK coach is responsible for that? Also why would you pay much for a reserve goalie if your #1 goalie is good as Theo and likely to play most of the time?

Acton was the reserve goalkeeper but the rumour is that Young was brought in because he was mates with the Goal Keeper coach.

I would take Italiano over Young any day and we aren't a championship winning team, they need to aspire to having better than Young. Acton was brought back in as the reserve to Young, I wonder if he would do a better job.
