Independent A-League
Well written and some really good points. A lot of which could easily be said about NZ and our wasted opportunities and poor management of the game.
And no collusion or obstruction either. None!
I think an independent A-League, run by the clubs, is the best option for the Nix. Hopefully, it happens quickly, before our current licence expires.
Sepp Blatter said something similar after he personally investigated the corruption claims at the highest level of Fifa.
Craig Foster continues the dialogue
Foster's comments come after FIFA reneged on establishing a 'normalisation committee'
Nasty, and seems to be getting worse by the day.
No Money for better football - GOOLLOOPPPPPP
DID CARHILL KILL THE LEAGUE
A P & R series between the winners of the premier state leagues and the top of the NZ championship, including the 10th placed team might be very interesting!
The big question.
Will an independent Hal, run by the current clubs introduce P & R.
Reading the article and looking at NZ history to date in the A-League it seems whats wanted from the NZ perspective is an MLS type structure with all clubs guaranteed a place forever regardless of performance both on an off the field. Essentially a closed tier franchise model. With each club regardless of performance receiving equal distributions of revenue.
The push by the State Feds, and the NPL clubs is for P & R to be introduced between 2024 & 2027. Further there is a push that any future broadcast deal involve a % to the second division to help build it up. Again would the existing clubs take on board the idea of funding a second division.
Lets assume, club ZZZZZZZ get an average of 10 people to a match, never wins a game, and has a goal difference of 8 goals a game. Do they stay in ?????? if the answer is no .... then at what level do you draw the line ????

Not until they become financially viable

Was MLS structure mentioned or is that your personal view from reading Not going back to re-read

If theu are viable and able to win the play offs if P & R to be introduced between 2024 & 2027
Broadcasting deal for their games is theirs to negotiate if 2nd tier is an independent league
If a 2nd tier is to be financed by the HAL it will all fail.

Until the 2nd tier clubs are secure and set up for 2024/2017. Yes hold place

The Australian Professional Football Clubs Association (APFCA) is a not-for-profit entity mandated to represent the interests of the ten professional clubs that compete in Australia’s premier domestic football competition, the Hyundai A-League.
Is Lederer's appointment a good thing for the Nix?
Is Lederer's appointment a good thing for the Nix?
I hope so. We could do with some positive news.
As such the APFCA has comprehensively laid out its position for all representatives participating in the process – and for the Australian Football Family at large – in the “APFCA Blueprint for an Independent Future”.

Some interesting things in here. Including wanting expansion to 16 teams, fund 10 full time referrees, contol own IP and digitial platforms, expaning the bench to 7 players which 2 spots for u23 players. Looks like essentially, clubs will be a shareholder of the controlling entity. Agreement from >75% of clubs will be need to change rules and regulations (among other things).
And there is thing about us "It is imperative that the values of existing licences are protected and enhanced by any expansion, including the licence of Wellington Phoenix, a club that has the full support of the APFCA membership."
interesting read, fingers crossed they get it sorted before the end of this season.
What do we reckon about the proposal for loans/transfers between clubs?
Latest comment from FFA. "I'm sorry, HAL, I'm afraid I can't do that"

AAFC '100% confident' of second division by 2020

DOMINIC BOSSI FEBRUARY 28, 2019
The clubs want full autonomy to run an independent A-League themselves, with the FFA given a 'golden share' which would give them veto power on a number of key issues.Professional Footballers Australia is pushing for the A-League to be overseen by a fully independent board, whose members would be completely free of ties to the clubs and to FFA.The governing body, meanwhile, is at risk of being completely sidelined. The clubs are seeking 90 per cent of broadcast revenue and have proposed to give a defined portion of it straight to the nine state federations - cutting out FFA, the middle man.
The clubs are entitled to put their position ... clearly there are going to be competing interests.FFA chief David Gallop
The state federations effectively will make the final call on their own. During the CRWG process, the clubs and PFA agreed to recuse themselves from the vote, leaving it to the remainder of the new expanded congress - the states and the women's council - to decide whether or not to pass it into legislation. There are fears the states have already been offered favourable terms to do so.The clubs, through their umbrella body APFCA, released their blueprint for the A-League earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, it is hugely critical of FFA, who in turn believe the document is full of gaping holes and based on outdated information and data.Asked for an official response, FFA chief executive David Gallop told the Hairdryer: "The clubs are entitled to put their position ... clearly there are going to be competing interests."The deadline to complete the project is extremely tight so all parties need to spend a big chunk of time across the table looking for a solution that balances the revenue and resources across the professional game, the national teams program and the grassroots. That means in the current financial position and into the future.“

"Free to Dream" is all I can say if they hope for a professional comp anytime soon.
The story below discusses Auckland FC trying to get into the HAL. Nothing new there. But I wonder if the proposed second division would be open to a NZ team? And would it be financially viable for a Kiwi club?
THE A-LEAGUE WANTS TO EXPAND. HOW ABOUT AUCKLAND?
"Considering Football Federation Australia is set to expand the A-League to 12 clubs by 2021, with more licences expected to be offered in the seasons that follow, is it time for Auckland to make a return to the A-League?"
I had a bash at approaching the issues an Auckland team would face here, having read the above piece.

Good effort John thanks. My own thoughts are that money threshold for the potential new club would be higher than that needed to run Phoenix, unless the small ("affordable") stadium becomes part of the solution. And it would have to be sponsorhip that does not take money away from Welnix.

Yipe a really good read John. Lots and lots of hurdles, but an Auckland A League team would be a massive boost for NZ football, and I think 2-3 derby games a season, only positive for the Nix.
I'd say either a highest profile Pacific player and/or an Asian player, as an important signing. Auckland obviously has a very big Asian popn now.
31 yr old Wood is a good marquee idea. Alternatively Winston Reid would be 34 in 2023. Injury prone, but likely by then his EPL career is over, so a more likely option to tempt 'home'.
Tuiloma will only be age 27 in 2023, but he's PI boy, and give him a fat contract plus captaincy - he could be tempted.
The Boxalls are half Samoan. Michael would be age 34 come 2023.

All good points but I doubt it will happen.
