I doubt they will get any decent crowds unless they move to another ground. I doubt many people in Wellington would bother showing up to Westpac, if they had the same issues around transport.

NewShambles strikes again:

CHANGES TO MEMBER SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
Due to ongoing low attendances at Gold Coast United home games, the club has decided to open only the Western Stand at Skilled Park for our next home game against North Queensland Fury (8pm Saturday, October 31). This will have the effect of limiting the attendance to 5 000, and also requires the club to relocate members from other grandstands into the Western Stand.

All members (except for those already located in the Western Stand) have been assigned new seats to accommodate this arrangement. All members affected by this change have today been sent a letter in the mail with their new seating allocation, while members who already have Western Stand seats will remain unchanged.

To gain entry to Skilled Park for this game, you will need to collect a temporary ticket from the Gate B Box Office from 6pm on Saturday night. Please make sure you bring your membership card to the stadium as you will need to produce it in order to receive your temporary ticket/s. We will have an envelope with tickets for each primary account holder waiting for collection, and while we will process everyone as quickly as possible it would be advisable to arrive a little early to avoid the queues. Alternatively, you may also collect your temporary tickets from the Gold Coast United office (Ground Floor, 9 Ouyan St, Bundall) on Friday October 30 from 9am 4pm.

Please note that as part of this new stadium arrangement, match tickets and memberships do not include free public transport to and from the game. There will be no special event bus or train services in operation however there is parking available near the stadium.

Make sure you retain your current membership card/s, as should this situation change your membership will automatically revert to your existing seats.

You will be sent further details to keep you updated with this situation for future home games.

Dear members,

we are moving you from your allocated seats and making you go through the hassle of acquiring a temporary replacement ticket. But don't worry, at least there aren't any free buses any more.

what a deal.

Maybe it'd help with crowd noise getting all the fans in one area and focusing all the sound.
Just  as long as the guys on the pitch keep quiet we'll be able to hear them now.

When does GCU's licence expire?

And are they breaking there contract with the FFA?

What a joke. Terrible timing after a 6-0 loss too, lets just make the fans even more pissed off.

Surely the FFA will be giving them a bollocking.

Allegedly

There is talk that this breaches their contract with the FFA. Palmer will take them to court, and we'll have 10 teams next season, instead of 11.

I would think the Public transport being pulled is a breach of the terms a season membership was sold under as well.

Won't we still have 11 with one of the other expansion teams entering the HAL? (i'm so lost on what the ffa is up to in that regard, don't fill me in i will work it out. eventually)

I actually feel sorry for the GCU fans, this guy is seriously screwing this club and as a couple of people on the 442 forums said a failure of expansion on the Gold Coast would be bad news, considering the birth of an AFL team next year plus an NRL team that has been successful.

AFL was far stronger on the Gold Coast than soccer was. Soccer in Queensland has been going through a golden age since the A-League. But crowd expectations in Brisbane have gone up since the NSL days when they had some of the lowest crowds in the league and 7000 was considered an awesome crowd.

There was never room for 2 sides in SE Queensland.

So too recap...

Today GCU:

*Limited the amount of people able to go to games to 5k

*Increased ticket prices $13.

*Moved Thousands of members which means they have to go thru the hassle of collecting there re-allocated seats.

*Took away free transport to the game.

Congratulations Clive "I do it to make people happy" Palmer. You've just destroyed your football club.

All this off field mickey mouse stuff must be having a negative effect on the players surely. How can you hope to instill a sense of unity and pride in the club if bugger all people are turning up to watch? They aren't stupid, the players know they are nothing but play things in one very selfish man's private vanity project, and a good wage can only sugar coat that to a certain degree.

As the weeks roll by Culina especially has the appearance of a man who realises he's made a terrible mistake. He's their key player but in recent times he has been playing on autopilot. In fact he was awful on Sunday, just disinterested, bewildered and finally humiliated (not that I have a lot of sympathy for him).

I'm not sure what their contractual situations are but I could easily see a large chunk of that team deciding they want out before next season. If there is a next season for GCU that is.

What a Joke. the FFA should be less worried about the Nix contract and more worried about GCU. Tell them to get f**ked. What must Fowler think. Comes to this new league, playing in a kind of derby-ish game, and there will 3 thousnad there. Pathetic

Whatever we may feel towards the team, the money and whatever, you've got to have sympathy for the fans.

CHANGES TO MEMBER SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
Due to my increasing waistline and ongoing low attendances at Gold Coast United home games, the club has decided to open only the Western Stand at Skilled Park for our next home game against North Queensland Fairy...mmm, fairy bread... This will have the effect of limiting the attendance to 5 000, and also requires the club to relocate a member from another grandstand into the Western Stand. It will also allow me to have the entire Northern Stand to myself, a necessary step given the amount of seats needed to support my buttocks.

Both members have been assigned new seats to accommodate this arrangement. The member affected by this change have today been sent a letter in the mail with their new seating allocation, while the member who already has Western Stand seats will be placed firther downwind from me for his comfort on Taco Night.

To gain entry to Skilled Park for this game, you will need to collect a temporary ticket from the Gate B Box Office from 6pm on Saturday night. Ask for Mrs Smeltz, she does an excellent job distributing tickets for the club and fully deserves her six-figure salary for doing so.

Please note that as part of this new stadium arrangement, match tickets and memberships do not include free public transport to and from the game. This is because all of the buses are now required in order to provide enough force to tow my fat ass into the stadium.

Make sure you retain your current membership card/s, as they will make great memorablia after the FFA relocate us to West Sydney (all the rumours about relocating to Canberra? Lies. The FFA hates Canberra. Not enough porn and fireworks.)

You will be sent further details to keep you updated with this situation for future home games, assuming I still own a licence after this match.

Utterly horrendous.  This guy is worth ridiculous amounts of money and its like he's just given up on having a football team at all.  I was dubious at the reports of them not advertising and not getting involved in the community (two things the Phoenix excel at), but this is just a slap in the face of football fans everywhere. I'm offended and I don't like the Gold Coast.  Its a shame because they are a good team and when firing are great to watch... at this rate they may even gain a record for the shortest lived professional club in the world ever.

Terry, you are a god.  I'm proud to say I'm Phoenix till I die, but it is kinda scary that Smeltzy and the GC fans may only be Gold Coast till... yesterday.

How can a guy who is putting up millions of his own be conceived to be "screwing the club"?
People may not like what GCU are doing but common sense dictates if they are losing $100,000 each home game then they need to do something about it. It may be more an issue for the cheif exec having cut a poor deal with the ground than Palmer himself. Something tells me they have got their budget horribly wrong here. This is certainly an issue for the league commissioner and the FFA. If he goes broke supporting the club then their is no future there anyway. Whether you like the guy or not at the end of the day the club has to be fiscally viable.
