In what way will the FFA f**k this up, I wonder? They will throw out their business plan, and give them one they have created that is unrealistic.
"Canberra has an A-League ready stadium with an excellent surface, AIS training facilities, Government backing, almost 2000 foundation members and 20,000 pledge signatures, community support, healthy grassroots player numbers, a champion W-League side and $4m in pledges."

My guess is they will delay, delay, delay trying to stitch up a west sydney outfit and then give the canbera team the green light 2 months out.

I entirely support Canberra for the A-League. We can have a Capital Cities Derby.

That sounds very plausible.

I like much better than the distance derby, GRRRivals
The worst thing for the A League would be for the FFA to repeatedly make poor decisions as to where to put a team, only for that team to collapse in a year or two, over and over again. Public support is key to avoiding that.
I'm no expert on the matter, but it seems wanting to have a Western Sydney team is driven more by desperation than by public demand. The FFA seem worried that they are getting swamped by the other 'football' codes in the region, but if that is the prime motivation then they may have left it too late. If the Canberra bid has a much higher public demand factor, then imo it's a much better option.

Expansion needs that organic aspect, you cannot just throw a franchise into a community and expect them to follow it.
West Sydney has the player base, but doesn't seem to have the drive to get their own team. The FFA want a team there for the added value it would give the TV rights by having a Sydney derby.
Canberra has a bid set up, local support but just missing a dodgy Greek needing a haircut.
It is the horrendous charges that the Qld government put on Skilled Park that makes it a major problem.Added to that there is no stadium parking so if you live more than 5ks south you can't get a train. These are just two of the problems, regardless of the football code.

Still miles away from balotelli levels of looney. He's giving it a good crack

Canbarra does extremely well supporting a W-League team with great success.

About time the team and city that actively wants a team is getting looked at rather than the suburb/area that the FFA thinks wants one.

If GCU can't carry on, I would hope Canberra gets the spot. Unlike West Sydney, there does seem to be a demand for a team from the public. Feels kinda like us, when the Knights went belly up.

What they need to do is build a better league, THEN try it. Instead of trying to force it, failing, and making it even more impossible for themselves.
Canberra would go a long way to help them do that by the sounds of it.

Palmer has a helicopter booked to tow a freedom of speach banner over skilled park. He is f**king mental
The embattled Gold Coast Titans have taken the extraordinary step of offering free tickets worth at least $170,000 to fans if the club loses Saturday's home game against Melbourne Storm.
In a bid to arrest falling crowds, Titans managing director Michael Searle on Thursday announced a "home-win guarantee" which will see sponsors iSelect provide free tickets for any fans who go to Skilled Park and see their team lose.

It isn't just GCU that is struggling for crowds, Titan's only got 11,378 fans to their game on the weekend. Off the field they are being sued also, and losing money hand over fist.
Yes Palmer didn't give the GCU a fair chance to survive, but it just seems no one has worked out how to crack the Gold Coast market.

Some light ahead possibly for Gold Coast:
I knew I saw some f**king horses in the crowd!
Thank god for that. I thought I was going crazy.
Looks like GCU will have a youth team but no age team. Not good for Nix Youth Team chances.
GCU officially Gold Closed United.
Add in West Sydney and you have 11 teams which is an awkward number. Add in Nix and you have 12, much better.

I suppose the announcement of West Sydney is suppose to deter thought about GCU demise.
GCU Beach Forum saying good bye. Let hope they can build from a youth team back to a full a League team.
It's a bit odd having such a disjoint between A league teams and youth teams.
It is a bit odd, but long term I think its a good move.
The FFA should be setting up youth teams in places they wish to expand too in the future. Ok the kids don't get to break thru to the A-League with the club, but it will still help develop local players that could come back to the club if they ever make A-League status.
Places like Wollongong, Geelong, Tasmania and Nth Qld would be areas they could look at.
